I would only recommend using CNET or other owner settings as a start point since your viewing conditions may be very different and your personal preference may run 180 degress contrary to what a Calibrator may set as THE Standard via measurements. When it comes to my money, eyes, preference for Dynamic PQ Pop runs contrary to a washed out Cinema look and I don't give a crap what the calibrator or anyone else thinks as it's my money and I get to blow my brains out if I choose with a Vivid PQ. If I want normal I'll look out my window.

I'll use them as a starting point and then tweak them until I'm satisfied - sort of like others telling you how to have an orgasm when what pleases us is individual preference not a measurement in a lab using another's perception for us to follow as Lemmings. Use as a reference to start from and then go for what turns you on!

Which brings up the question that everyone is now asking, "Do Lemmings have orgasms?"

If anyone has the time, could you check the gap between the black bezel and the silver outer bezel on the right and left sides of the TV?

There seems to be a larger gap on the right side of my TV than the left. The left is very tight, almost touching, and the right has a 2mm gap. It's like panel gap misalignment on cars. Coincidentally, light bleed is worse on that side.

But how is left compared to right?

Mine is tight on top and there is a 2-3mm gap on the bottom. But the bottom looks to be a purposeful design, since the glow under the Samsung logo shines through it.

Left/Right seems to be build quality issues.

Mine is definitely along the right/left bottom of the screen.

Can I ask guys - what is the latest firmware I can use (and where from) on my TV?

I have the UA65F9000 - Its the UAE version, does this restrict me to UAE only? Assuming not as others are using non standard firmware..

*edit* currently on version: 2009

No one is using non standard firmware, this is impossible. If you try to install wrong region firmware your TV won't accept it.

I have no idea what's the latest version available for your region, you should check on your local Samsung support website.

Anyone noticing a non-even white on the screen? The sides look pinkish, and the middle has a yellow tinge to it. It is very subtle, but noticeable.

I've seen this on a lot of iPads as well, and I believe Samsung used to make iPad screens too.

The Samsung technician from the local electronics repair shop called to get details on my issue with my set. She asked what the symptoms were if I could send pics and he would be able to get back quickly with an appointment set-up. She called back shortly after receiving pics to ask a few follow up question involving transport and delivery and the condition of the box.
I once again explained that there was no box that I had purchased open item. I said yes and once again she said she would get back to me shortly. After a short time she called back saying that Samsung would allow them to come out and inspect the display, but if physical damage or apparent tampering were seen the warranty would be void. While the retailer I purchased the TV from is a certified retailer, service center and refurbished display provider I still purchased a used TV.
I ended up returning the TV and will patiently wait for the holiday sales hit before attempting to pick up another.

That is a shame because this is such a good TV but I think you have probably made the best choice. Even if they had fixed it free of charge you would likely always feel like something was wrong with it. At least I know I would. Maybe stay away from open boxes for awhile though

I thought people were downloading firmware from Korean Samsung support site - that was what made me ask.

Waste of time checking my local region, they have nothing, they are also still telling people in the shops (Samsung promise me they train the staff...) that this F9000 supports all 4K including netflix (as long as you use a VPN)

Been asking them when the SEK-2500U will be available and they have no idea what it is (Samsung UAE) and tell me that the set doesn't need it as it is already 4K......

Here in the US we have been downloading the firmware early from the Korean website. US models and Korean models are the same as is their firmware. I can't speak for any other regions though.

Ah, so that would explain it.

Regretting buying this set now, especially here - the support is just non existent.

Probably not worth risking the Korean/US firmware, altho maybe it will work....expensive mistake though if it doesn't as assuming the TV could be bricked? Or is it just a case of it won't work and as long as I have a backup of the correct firmware I'm good to re-flash?

Also tempted to buy a SEK-2500U from elsewhere, as I don't see it appearing here anytime soon. Then again however the thing won't work unless the firmware for the region it's from works on my set?

The US/Korean firmware would not even be able to be installed on your set with out some hacking and tweaking and even then probably not with good results. Where are you again?

Yeah good point, so they are region locked?

I'm in Abu Dhabi at the minute - so my model is UA65F9000.

Wow , that model is completely gone from their support pages but it (likely) uses the same firmware as the UA85S9. I am basing that on the fact that the Un65f9000 and UN85S9 (US models) with the 2013 One Connects use the same firmware. Here is a link to that firmware but you would likely get this firmware from your TVs Software Update menu anyway.

As far as the 2014 UHD Kit for your region, I can only assume is is the SEK-2500U/AR based on your region code but it doesn't seem to exist.

Haha yep, exactly! It's just vanished.

Good theory there however, I like it - just checked and the firmware available there is later than mine, I am on 2009.

Are the SEK-2500U kits region locked?

Thanks!

I can't be positive on that one. I think so but don't quote me. At the very least you would probably not get full functionality out of it. What is your complete model #? UA65F9000AR and maybe a few more letters?

Knowing my luck I would buy it and it won't work so maybe best I hold off. Or find somewhere which will accept a return.

Full model is UA65F9000ARXZN

Here is the link to your model's downloads (it may not load in a mobile browser) http://www.samsung.com/ae/support/mo...RXZN-downloads and it looks the same as the UA85S9 so that theory is correct. Doesn't help with an Evolution Kit though.

Aha, perfect so it does confirm the UA85S9 theory, brilliant.

Will download that when I get home and install, thanks very much.

So tempted to just buy an evo kit and try it...but I've wasted enough money so far this year maybe should wait!!

It seems these are not region locked. I have seen someone from Australia buying a US SEK-2500U and it worked on his Australian TV, but of course the built in tuner didn't work.

But you need to be able to make a backup before you can use the new SEK-2500U. As far as I remember, the firmware v2009 didn't have this option, so you can't install the SEK-2500U. If I remember correctly then you need firmware starting with 21xx.

But you need to be able to make a backup before you can use the new SEK-2500U. As far as I remember, the firmware v2009 didn't have this option, so you can't install the SEK-2500U. If I remember correctly then you need firmware starting with 21xx.
Ah, interesting! I think the Australian models are also UA* prefix...so could be onto a winner, except the firmware...unless other regions firmware works, the latest I can get seems to be 2010.1 - unless by some miracle this usb only firmware may then enable a more recent OTA...doubt it mind.

I may just buy it and see

The are a UA prefix but the model ends in AM vs AR in your case. Have you installed the 2010.1 firmware to see if the UHD Evolution Kit backup is now in your TV menu?

In a case of "that just doesn't happen" and the way my luck has gone with my purchase the Samsung technician emailed and called to tell me my TV had been ordered and would be delivered as soon as the repair center received it. I was contacted by email a short time later by the service center saying that my TV had been ordered and they would be out to replace mine upon receipt.
I emailed explaining that I had decided to return and wait for the holidays to buy an actual "new" model. She called moments later to ask if the return had been made already, since Samsung had authorized to replace the entire TV with a new in the box item. I asked,"they were sending a replacement screen"? She said no,they had authorized a full replacement due to the circumstances, doh!
That is my luck, but good on Samsung.

Wow. A Brand-new unit, or a refurb?

I've never heard of Samsung being so good with warranty issues. All I've read is horror stories.

That's awesome though, especially considering it was open-box.

I just bought a squaretrade 5 year warranty for mine.
