After posting to Facebook I was contact with a message from Office of the President of Samsung... something rather and was told that they would now be not charging for any labor to resolve this. Kudos to the Samsung's Facebook people. Their tech came out yesterday and was fantastic. He was here for hours to make sure that everything would be correct. He changed the main board and he also had to swap out the guts of my Evolution Box (2500 one from 2014) because we got into a loop with the set up (not a power cycling thing but a loop in setting up the TV).

The tech was in contact with a couple different engineers who were directly involved in the firmware on this. They also discovered yesterday that he needed to download another file into his phone and then put it into my TV that (according to him) they just realized yesterday that they needed to do or else the TV wouldn't be able to see/get any new updates moving forward after swapping out the main board in the TV and the evolution box. I believe this was an update for the Sub-microm (which you can see when you go into the "contact Samsung" area in the menu). Today I have software version T-GFP9AKUC-1230.1, BT - S and the Sub Microm Version is T-GOLAUSS5-3001, T-GOLOAUSS2-1010. This makes me think that they must have just pulled firmware 1240 and are now back to 1230.

I really appreciated this guy, Phillip (Cuyahoga Falls - Akron area) making certain that he didn't agree to take the update the TV wanted to download without making multiple calls so that he didn't have to leave me in the same position I started in. Thanks Phillip! Excellent Work!

I just commented on my Facebook post and will also be updating the BBB on this as well. I do still think making this "right" to end things on a happy note would be to send me a complementary 2015 evolution box but my main concern - getting the TV back up and running at no charge to me is now complete.

I'm still baffled that I'm getting an exchange vs a repair. The F9000 is a solid panel and I am loathe to give it up.

So my problem is with the old One box. 2013, not 2014 one.
Goes through a power cycle and does not want to power on.

Will take like a long time before it powers on.
I am not sure what everyone else is experience when they have this problem.

But tech is coming out.. Samsung will only pay for parts. But I may escalate this once i find out how much is the labor.

Don't mind going half way if it's reasonable... just leaves a bad tastes in my mouth after spending $4000+ on a TV and craps out at 1.5 years with a firmware update....

will take pictures and record procedures on what the tech does so for those of you that want to do it yourselves can...

You got a update on original OCB and this caused a boot loop?

So it continually reboots? Or it just takes awhile to power on? I am a little confused by your post. Any firmware updates to the original OCB are fine so I don't think that is the issue. Mine updated to 2108 just fine but of course I have a new mainboard in my panel so anything is possible. You would be the first I have heard to have a problem with firmware to the Original OCB if that is the case. Sounds more like a power supply issue based on what I think you are saying is happening.

I JUST got my TV repaired (Samsung did a "one time" accommodation for parts and labor....Thanks!). (65F9000 if you care). They replaced the mainboard, but it was a different part number than sikclown's. My TV is version UD07, so the main board part they used to replace it is #BN94-07483Y , but inside was #BN94-07229B (same as sikclown). Evidently it is completely compatible since it works and looked identical. I updated the firmware on the Original OCB (2013) to version 2108 (and it flashed the camera too to version 1.33.00!). I almost just pulled it out before it did that. I forgot to do the "save" to do the evolution update, so when I put on the 2014 connect, it wouldn't see it at all (ie. it thought there was no one connect attached. Bummed me out until I remembered!). But then I remembered (and it mattered that I used the newer cable), and did the save on the 2013 then it took the 2014 without an issue. Version 1240.3 believe it or not. I turned off auto-update. (I REALLY missed my TV. I use it as a laptop monitor too, and there is where it really hurt by not having it!)

I tried out the new UHD video pack that I bought when it was on sale, since I finally have a TV that will use it. The documentaries are impressive looking, but the movies so far aren't (but I haven't seen all of them). They look like upscaled HD rather than "made for 4k". Meaning, a lot of grain, but then again I don't have the 2014 set like I use to so perhaps the playback is trying too much video alteration, so I will see if I can get it to go no-grain. Some of Netflix's newer stuff is no grain and looks impressive (ie. marco polo), but Dare Devil seems to have a lot. So I'm not convinced it is my settings completely.

Samsung DID actually call me tonight to see if my TV had been repaired yet, and I said it just was a few minutes ago.

Good luck to the rest of you who are still waiting! I know your pain!

Life of pi is the best looking 4k movie on the pack. World war z also looks good. The older the movie the more grain it has. Haven't watched gi joe yet but I'm guessing it'll look good.

U are correct about daredevil, grainy as all hell. Make sure u have digital clean view turned on at least low. For daredevil, I have to keep it on high just to get rid of all that noise. I have the 2014 hu9000, I'm curious if the 2015 sets are better in that area.

Wonder how many of us never required repair

I am using my TV with original 2013 OCB and waiting for the 2015 OCB to become available to upgrade, However all these 1.5 years, my TV never failed. How many of us are here who never required a repair?
(P.S.: Don't know, if AVS offer a facility to create poll?)

Back up and running, tech stopped my set off today. Replaced main board, used original ocb, updated some firmware and flashed something on the panel, then 2500 and more manual flashing. Running at 1240.3 no issues!

Finally back up and running to where I was before the 1240.3 update! Samsung replaced the main board last Friday and reconnected the 2013 OCB. The technician was told by Samsung not to reconnect the 2014 OCB (Evolution Kit). At that point, I was just happy to have my TV back! A couple of days later, I tried my Apps and there weren't any! I called Samsung again and they accessed the TV remotely and couldn't fix it. I suggested reinstalling the 2014 OCB to see if it worked, but the technician advised against it because she didn't know what would happen. I followed Silkclown's instructions and now every thing is back to normal, including all my Apps!

That reminds me, the technician created a new repair ticket to have someone come back out to fix the TV to work with the 2013 OCB. Since I've fixed it myself, the help of this forum of course, I will call and cancel the callback. Thanks again everyone.

I've followed this and the SEK-2500 thread throughout the year. There were few if any postings discussing a requirement for repairs until the "ill fated" v.1240 software update for the SEK-2500.

Anyone have any experience with the exchange process for a TV when dealing with Samsung directly? What does it entail, etc.?

Hi guys,

Sorry to hear about all the problems. Perhaps Australia generally being behind the US with everything has been a blessing in this case.

Quick question, which I'm sure has been answered in this thread somewhere, but it's rather large

I'll be mounting the TV on the wall soon, but I'm just curious what people generally do with the OCB? Where do you put it? Is there a spot in the bracket, behind the TV maybe? Put it in the wall (don't fancy that idea, I'd like to be able to get at things if I need to)?

Thanks! Hope your issues with the update are fixed soon.

I have seen people rig a bracket to attach to their tv mount or wall behind the TV. Unfortunately no one makes a wall mount for it; it would be amazing if someone did. I need to figure something out myself on this front as I will be installing the new SEK-3500u on my wall mounted UN55HU8550 later this month.

Yeah it's tricky. I like the concept of the OCB, with it being separate so easy to upgrade etc, but it does make things difficult for mounting.

Ha! I beleive this is the first time someone has asked that question so directly.

I have installed 3 -55"ers using "Picture hanger" style Wire Mounts that let the TV sit virtually flush against the wall. Since I was going to have to route both HDMI and 110ac to the area behind the TV, I simply cut a 10" x 10" hole in the Drywall, set the One Connect inside and against the opposing wall using Heavy Duty Velco strips, cut in my HDMI Plate and 110ac Boxes just below the 10 x 10, and put some deadwood across the Hole and screwed the "drywall plug" back up.

No issues...no worries.

Dependent upon the Wall mount used (...Tilt Mounts afford more space toward the top of the TV...) most would choose to mount the OCB on the wall behind the TV.

Well that works OK as long as you don't have nosy Guests peeking around the sides and commenting on the wiring glut. Being an admitted "Cosmetically Oriented" kinda guy, I cannot abide the possibility of such a prospect. But that's me.

TVs placed on stands on top of Cabinets or above Fireplaces should have plenty of options. I just want people to know that a "In the Wall" applications is perfectly doable.

So finally got a call back from Samsung Executive Customer Relations

They are going to exchange my UN65F9000 for the UN65JS9500

So I end up ahead so to speak. But I really loved my F9000 panel, c'est la vie.

Kicker - 7-10 Days now.

Anyone looking for a used sek-2500 OCB

Question Upgrading to 2015 Evolution Kit SEK-3500u

So does anybody know if one can update to the 2015 Evolution Kit (SEK-3500u) when using the firmware version 1230.2 on the SEK-2500u? I have pre-ordered the SEK-3500u and need to know. I am loathe to try to update to 1240 firmware (with all these horror stories) and have been told it is no longer available. Anybody heard from Samsung as to how to update SEK-3500u from the SEK-2500u?

Samsung UN65F9000AF UHD TV
Samsung SEK-2500u 2014 UHD Evolution Kit (1230.2)
Samsung BD-F7500 Blu-Ray
Pioneer VSX-1130-K AV Receiver with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi; 4k UHD 60p/4:4:4; HDCP 2.2
Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 System
Direct TV HR-44 Genie

There should be no reason you can't upgrade from 1230 firmware to the SEK-3500u. Firstly the SEK-3500U will have it's own firmware already installed with the F9000 listed as compatible. When you do a UHD Evo Kit Backup it will start the installation process. People keep thinking we need 1240 to upgrade because we needed a firmware update last year to do so. But that firmware enabled us to Do the UHD Backup which was not even an option before the firmware. Secondly, if it does require a firmware to upgrade then Samsung will likely release a corrected 12xx firmware soon enough.
Worst case scenario you can reinstall your original OCB, update its firmware to the latest (verified safe), and then do the UHD Evo kit backup and install the SEK-3500u. Samsung has stated you can go direcly from the 2013 to the 2015 Kit and a hand full of users in here will be doing just that since they opted to skip the sek-2500.

In Europe there is a new update 2227.2 (date 15.05.2015) for the original OCB. Has anyone installed this update? Any problems?

Tech came to fix my TV due to the firmware update. Replaced everything. Main, power, and wifi. Powered up the TV and it wouldn't detect the one connect. The old one connect didn't try the 2500. Put the old main back in and the TV powered off in 30 seconds like before. Tech thought it was a bad main from Samsung. Have to wait another week to try another main. Any thoughts?

As this is being covered under extended warranty do you think they'll just replace the TV? If they do replace what should I accept as a replacement?
