Currently I have a Panasonic TC-P50X1 plasma 50" in our basement rec room. I've owned it for about 4 years now. No complaints. We sit about 10-12 feet from the tv and it seems perfect, not too big or too small.

Walmart has the VIZIO E601I-A3E 60" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV going for $688 on Black Friday. I just don't know if I should pull the trigger. The viewing angle is very important for me and this seems to have a great viewing angle overall. I'm just worried about reliability.

Any help is appreciated.

I have one that we purchased last year and, although we love it, it's viewing angle leaves a whole lot to be desired. We watch it from dead center only.

Sounds like I should stay away from this set. Are there any other 60" recommendations?

If viewing angle is a big deal, then I would stick with plasma. And since it's for a basement, you don't have the bright room problem that seems to be plasma's biggest issue. Panasonic p60s60 would be a great budget plasma, but it's not nearly as inexpensive as LCDs this size can be.

Compared to that, this Vizio is a steal at current prices. LCDs have some inherent drawbacks compared to plasma and viewing angle is one of them, but the panel technology used by Vizio is better than some other major brands at this. Mine looks washed out from the side when I enter the room, but that's an extreme angle, like 75 degrees. As soon as I'm actually in the room, it looks great.

Hope this helps!
