Turns out the model I have, LE651 has the same panel as LE751 and, I believe, 636 but that those have more detailed picture settings. Would it be possible to install their firmware and con my tv into revealing these options?

I could be really mean and sure and say, "Sure! Go for it!".

But I would guess that it wouldn't work/help and any attempt to do so would probably make your TV FUBAR.

^^^^ yep. Only install firmware upgrades that are specific for your model of tv. That information should be on the mfrs website. The type of panel has nothing to do with the firmware upgrades.
