My friend's old tube TV broke and needs to get a new TV. The problem is, he still has an old VCR and a Super Nintendo that he uses once in a while and wants to hook up to the new TV. These only can be hooked up via Composite since these are ancient electronics.

Are there any HDTVs today that still have Composite ports? I checked a few Samsung HDTVs at Best Buy and didn't see any that have them. Apparently, they seem to be doing away with them. If not, is there a special converter thingy he can buy to convert from Composite to HDMI?

Oh darn! Wrong category.

Moderators, please move this thread to the "LCD Flat Panel Displays" category. I am so sorry.

Usually the component's green input doubles as a composite input. You usually only get one, though, so he'll need a switch (or run the SNES through the VCR.)

Most Samsungs are like this. My UN55F6400 has it.

He should also keep expectations of video quality low. Blowing up standard definition sources like those two things are not going to be pretty.

Don't believe everything on the Interwebz! A duck's quack DOES echo!

I have a new Sony and an LG and both have composite inputs. Go to some place like Amazon and look at all the specs, I would bet that almost every TV has them.

I just checked and you're right. Looks like it's just a Samsung thing. Very odd.

Thanks! It's a relief that they didn't do away with that port. Some of us still use it.

Just curious. What Samsung TV's (make/model) that you saw at Best Buy don't have a composite input? I just took a quick look at 3 32" ans 1 39" models and all have one composite input.

I was browsing on Sony's website last week, and noticed that some of their models had a component input and separate
composite input, and others had a menu switchable component/composite input. I think that their higher end models had
the separate inputs.

Well, I will agree that "one" model of Samsung on the Best Buy website does not have a composite input. But.... the other 1/2 dozen do (in the 32" category) . Probably not just a "Samsung thing".
I'm surprised that you didn't come across one of those others. tongue.gif
