Hey folks, first time poster here!

I'm looking for a ~40" TV around $500 and so far I've narrowed it down to:

- LG LN5300 42LN5300 42-Inch
- Samsung UN40EH5300 40-Inch
- Vizio M401i-A3 40-Inch
- Vizio E420i-A0 42-Inch

I'm really looking for image quality here, smart features are not important, as I'm going to hook it up to my raspberry pi for internet uses. Do you have any recommendations? Am I missing any models that are worthwhile?

Thanks for the help and happy new year!

Edit: though I may hook the laptop to the TV at times, I'm not a gamer. I'll mainly watch movies, maybe use the TV as a bigger screen when programming.

Bumping the thread, given the poor time of the year to get feedback from folks! ;)

With that budget, I would look at the UN40FH6030 unless you absolutely need a smart TV. I like the picture better, and though I don't use 3d, it's an extra feature none the less. They are selling for under $500 at the moment.

I just got the samsung UN46EH5300 for about 560 on amazon. It's a gorgeous TV with excellent PQ. I believe the 5300 model has some smart TV features that I'm using a lot more than I expected.

The 40" is listed for 450 on amazon so it might be exactly what you're looking for. Good luck!

Thanks for all the recommendations, guys! I ended up buying the Sumsung UN40F5000, since I didn't really want any Smart features.

So far, I'm very satisfied, the image is indeed very nice, and the raspberry pi provides so much more than any built-in apps could possibly provide.! :D
