I've been holding my tongue about my experiences with the 55" M, but I just couldn't stomach this set, coming from a 5-year-old Plasma (Samsung PN50B860). Motion resolution was bad, and while I didn't give it much effort, the color was bad. Off-angle viewing obviously took a hit, but that wasn't the deal-breaker as much as the last straw.

I've decided I won't get what I want from a TV in the M-series budget, so I'm currently wondering if my patience will hold long enough to evaluate a P-series before I buy the F8500.

I think you may just want to go with the f8500 before it's too late. Personally I don't think you'll be able to equal your plasma on all fronts, even with the P series improvements.
