Agreed, not to mention Vizio's own press release.  Clearly says:

VIZIO M-Series Full-Array LED backlit LCD Smart TVs
(M322i)    $329.99 (MSRP)
(M422i)    $529.99 (MSRP)
(M492i)    $699.99 (MSRP)
(M502i)    $729.99 (MSRP)
(M552i)    $899.99 (MSRP)
(M602i)    $1,199.99 (MSRP)
(M652i)    $1,499.99 (MSRP)
(M702i)    $1,899.99 (MSRP)
(M801i)    $3,299.99 (MSRP)

Now if they only make minor changes then I will buy the 2013 model, but that is not what I am reading here.

I understood 2014 would be with a -B designation not the -A which your link shows.  This does not add up basically this one you showed is a non-3d version of the D-A3 model, nothing else different, but what do I know.  Actually if you look at the Vizio site they seem to designate D for 3D and I for non-3d so it is as simple as releasing the non 3-d panel of the 2013 model, not the actual all-new 2014 model.

An 80" model was released in February, but that doesn't mean it's actually part of the 2014 line-up, especially considering it doesn't contain the "B" designation in the model number, which has been postulated to mean "2014".

Why would they introduce a "new" 3D-less TV in 2014 after announcing their new line of 2014's with no 3D if it was not intended to be included?

Meh either way I'm not getting an 80' so I'm not that concerned. I guess we'll find out in a couple of months when the entire line is out.

That sentence doesn't even make sense.

The announced M series has no 3D but has FALD.

The M801D-A3R that was released earlier this year has 3D and no FALD.

Therefore, IF they release all of the models that Carlos mentioned in the CES 2014 video, there will be another 80" with FALD and no 3D - the 2014 model.

But yes...the next couple of months will be telling.

Look again. 3D is not included on the new/refreshed 2014 M80....just like the rest of the 2014 line up.

Ok, I'll give you that one. The M801i-A3 is the one that was released in February and has no FALD OR 3D.

Therefore it still doesn't fit into the 2014 Model Year M-Series that Carlos announced at CES.

Also, they wouldn't release the biggest screen size first before the smaller size that the average consumer will be buying.

So, I'm sticking to my hopes, dreams, rainbows, and unicorns and suspect there will be yet another 80" released in the next 6 months.

Groundhog day.

Keep to your hopes and dreams all you want, but if you read through this entire thread, you will discover that this subject has been raised and beaten into submission at least twice already: the 2014 80" M-Series is not FALD - it is a quick refresh of the edge-lit 2013 80" M-Series without the 3D.

If you are counting on the Vizio CES press release as a contractual obligation by Vizio to release an 80" FALD M-Series this year, I believe certain of the 2014 'FALD' E-Series TV also proved to be edge-lit...

But we weren't convinced until the 2nd round biggrin.gif

Guys and Gals, basically Vizio messed up with this "VIZIO M-Series Full-Array LED backlit LCD Smart TVs" headline, models ending in the digit "1" after the screen size denote edge-lit models. As for the E series, Vizio also messed up with this "VIZIO E-Series Full-Array LED backlit LCD Smart TVs" headline as the 23" and 24" models listed below it are edge-lit models.

I don't know if Vizio will release a 80" FALD this year or not, I just know they don't have a model number designated for one.

I believe the ~ 70" Visio and maybe some of the other large sizes would probably be a Sharp panel at least from what I have read anyway.
Somebody posted the scoop here on one of the Visio threads .

I just contacted Vizio and asked the question so we can move on from this debate. All things point to a real 2014 model.
1. Price lowered significantly.
2. The normal stepped approach to releasing new product, smallest display up largest.
3. The press release.
4. The video.

If nothing new then costco here I come, if something new around corner then I am waiting. Will post what vizio tells me.

"Contacted Vizio"? Do you have an inside connection?

No I don't, but do work in a parallel industry, you give me too much credit, simple contact email, last time I did they replied to me so I have some confidence in a reply.  Not exactly like I am asking for the missile codes.  Actually a member a long-ass time before but lost my u/n and changed my email, been a while.

I've asked them questions before and only received generic responses...that's why I'm surprised.

I tried too, but apparently don't have a high enough clearance level and received only a generic canned response.

They just got back to me and confirmed not same model, one curious thing they did say was the m801i-a3 was a 2013 model, even though a few of you are saying it came out in 2014.  Anyhoo, I am sitting and waiting for the 2014 M801i full array.

The M801i-A3 did ship in February and if it wasn't what they were referring to in that 2014 E- and M-Series PR, then it was never announced in any PR. I definitely wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it. They'll probably release all of the P-Series models before that.

Got a 2nd email confirming the M801i-A3 is simply a 2013 model of the 3d version of the m801d-a3, as well as a live chat session about it.  They were great about the communication, I am impressed.  M-Series I was told is summer when it hits, they could not be more specific.  Summer is a long time frame so it will be tough to wait.  There you have it folks.  The question will it be worth the wait vs the current 3d version, and until someone gets their hands on an M-Series hard to say.  I need to have 75-80 inches of pure uninhibited glory :-).

I am putting together a sort of man/kid cave, have a projector (nec HT1000.. actually bought it with some help from this forum), but I rarely use it since it is more a hassle, the bulbs are costly and it is only component video, and lower resolution.  Need something my kids can just go down turn on the tv quickly watch some shows with Tivo, plays some video games, but still give that big image for about $3G, while also allowing my more discerning eyes watch a good movie.  I am Samsung guy so was peeking at the UN75F7100, but this new Vizio has me intrigued.
