I have questioned why a brighter backlight would lead to increased contrast ratio, since less brightness should also equate to 'darker darks' (assuming identical native contrast ratio of the panel).

If the UQ is based on a different panel than the SQ and the UQ panel has a higher native contrast ratio, then that would be a different matter entirely (and would easily justify the price premium of the UQ, at least for me :-)
Perhaps part of the answer is in the "dynamic contrast" processing. So, it can be brighter at peak but screws around with contrast to achieve better numbers.

Well, Paul's TV has just 2 days more on their March promo (code = MARCHDEAL12) that takes the 70 LC-SQ15U down to $2199. I have to decide whether to jump now or wait, wait, wait for the Vizio P series 70" There maybe SOME of the P series released in June, although I doubt it, but the P 70 is probably further off. Even the E releases have slowed down and the 60 is struggling to get into retail.

I didn't think there was an "SQ10" -- only SQ15. All the model numbers I'm aware of are in this table:

Like others have done, I decided to try playing one of the 4K youtube videos. Does the youtube app try to stream in 4k, or detect that the display is 1080p and switch to that resolution? The image was razor sharp on scenes where motion was low:

When looking at the pricing difference between the 70" SQ & UQ at this time we need to remember that the UQ is just hitting the streets wink.gif. There are some considerable differences between the two but not enough to cover the vast price difference at this time. The UQ will come down in price over the next 2-4 weeks somewhat. It's sort of like the difference between the 757 & 857 models of 2013 which was huge. But I don't think it will be as great this year due to increased pressure (especially if Vizio gets there act together with the "P").

That is a matter of opinion.
I have seen both and the UQ has much better black levels and smoothness of picture (no blur).
Some might say the SQ is not worth anything and the UQ is worth every penny!

I believe that I am agreeing with you but I also believe that the price difference will shrink somewhat over the next month or so. There are also some folks that have the SQ and love it..

Here is the thing, people have budgets, etc... Do I think there is a vast difference between the two? Um, no. That being said, best buy comparisons mean little and PQ is so subjective. Both are in my budget and if I do buy it wont be until later in the year. I'd wait until someone like Chad B can eval and calibrate them before anyone gets too excited. Im sure both are nice sets.

Yes. Set the source to 0-255 then calibrate so you get just to ideal black, and then set white to some extent above ideal white.

There are links of an interview with a sharp exec that says there will not be hdmi 2.0 for the sq and UQ and they are waiting to see how things go before deciding on hdmi 2.0 for other products in the future so basically you will only get hdmi 1.4 for now which covers 99% of all TV and movie content right now, only gaming so far exceeds 30hz but remember these are just an in between model and probably will only be sold in 2014&2015 by2016 models I think we will see enough native uhd content that this in between solution won't be viable anymore for continued development. But I could be wrong.

Apologizes if I'm misunderstanding, but are you calling this TV an "in between" solution.....? That will very soon become invaluable / inviable...?

Best of luck

The Sq,Tq,Uq models have the revelation upscaler that'd in sharks uhd model the Ud series, but those won't give you full uhd because it's a 1080p panel that gets its pixels split in half to subpixels these subpixels are controlled separately, the revelation process then upscaler the picture to a "near uhd" picture. Some nickname it 3k resolution. Visually it's closer to uhd than 1080p. It can also receive an uhd signal at 30hz but downstairs it to the "3k" sharp is placing this tv for those who want a higher than 1080p resolution TV for half the price of a full uhd TV to bridge the gap between 1080p & uhd. But it will have difficulty keeping at half the price of uhd at the rate that uhd prices have come down so far.

The UQ has already been discounted a ton, from $4k to $3.3K. No change since that discount. It been out for a month, discounted at 2 weeks, no change since then. It's true it is a month behind the SQ.

Haha.

I will say the one thing i don't like is the wireless internet wps. I tried connecting like 4 times and each time I got an error. I hard wired and everything is good now.

I probably wont use the smart features anyways, rather use one of my gaming systems.

Well, that didn't work out too well. Apparently it will not play 4K files from USB. I have some vague recollection that was stated somewhere before. I really wanted to compare the same file 1080P versus 4K to see how good the revelation engine was. Oh, well. The 1080P files did not look remarkable.
