Good morning,

So after getting the settings dialed in after last nights movie, I decided to watch a recorded episode of Shark Tank from last night. The PQ is so much better than in my earlier posts. The blacks are definitely inkier, and the colors seem more saturated. One reason I believe this is happening is that the whites are less intense and warmer. I believe that the switch to the 240Hz setting under motion had the biggest impact. I honestly can't get my iPhone camera to capture the clouding any longer. Judge for yourself.

Did Sharp finally include an app for Amazon Instant/Prime Video in Smart Central 3.0?

BTW, there is a coupon code for $300 off (WINTER13) the 70EQ10U bringing the price down to $1899.99.

I just used the THX app that AVmaniac recommended to further dial in the PQ. What an amazing app!! See if you think these are better. If not, I'll take a few from a BluRay for you.

No AP Instant Video. Who is that coupon for, and do you have a link to that info?

soopergregg, could you answer a guestion for me? Someone had said that on the Sharp TVs that you can NOT set individual settings per HDMI input on the Sharps? They said that any settings (pic, contrast, etc.) are common across all the HDMI inputs. Is this true?
Thanks, Gerry

Thanks! Pretty stupid in my thinking as different devices do not put out same brightness/color etc.. It will play into my decision process on a new TV this year.
Thanks again, Gerry

I looked at a 70" SQ TV yesterday and most of the picture settings were greyed out when playing video off of a USB port. They also had the Sharp demo from CES playing off a different USB port and those settings couldn't be changed at all. Seems like they have the USB ports locked down because of the demo video.

Not sure if 2013 models were like this or not.

Can you post your settings? Got my SQ series early by picking it up myself. So far not impressed with the picture out of the box.

Will play around with it some more tomorrow.

I'm up in the air on which one to go with the sharp 60le857 for $1499 or the sharp 60eq10u for $1399.  Which one will have the best bang for the buck.  the protection plan will run 300 for both.  I was going to get the sony kdl550 for $950 but I think the upgrade would be wise plus somebody posted the sony will only do 1080@60, it sounds like the sony had  a lot cloud issues.

I may be mistaken, but the EQ is a 2014 model and the other is a 2013 tv.

Look at the fantastic pictures SooperGreg has posted with his EQ model..

the 857 was sharps best model last year. The 10q is actually sharps lowest model this year. I believe the 857 has the 12,000,00 contrast while the 10q has 6 or 8,000,000. My bet is youd have 2 get up to 15q series before u can say its an improvement over the 857.

well according to this chart, you'd have to consider the 17Q before u really compare it to last years 857. the 15 MIGHT, but we dont know yet. i would definitely go 857 over 10q though.

Good morning "jj",

First off, congratulations on your new set. Second, don't get discouraged. I must have spent the first three days getting mine dialed in.

What are you unimpressed with?

Here you go:

- AV Mode = DYNAMIC

- Auto Light Sensor = OFF

- Backlight = (-9)

- Contrast = (+32)

- Brightness = (+3)

- Color = (+8)

- Tint = (+2)

- Sharpness = (+16)

- Qual Pixel Plus 2 = (Advanced)

- Motion Enhancement = ( 240Hz at night with low ambient light or during movies, 120Hz during the day with high ambient light)

- Saturation = (Red +13), (Blue + 16) all others at midpoint

- Color Temp = (Low)

- Active Contrast = (Advanced)

- Gamma Adjustment = (Midpoint)

- Film Mode = (Off)

- Digital Noise Reduction = (Auto)

I hope this helps, let me know.

Good luck,

Greg

FYI, Square Trade has an extended 5 year warranty for $250. I believe it's better than most since it is underwritten by an insurance company and regulated.

Seems no matter what AV mode or settings I adjust, colors seem off, everything is washed out, seems blurry and grainy. Did the Disney WoW disk, didn't help.

Also with Film Mode off, playing movies on Apple TV still seems to have some level of Soap Opera Effect still going.

Even my wife commented on how bad it looks and she never notices things like that smile.gif

Might need to go back to back to Samsung 8500 plasma I returned due to load buzzing. Setting that to Movie mode is all it took, great picture across the board.
