Both of you: please stop referring to the TV as a "950B".

Sony reuses a lot of their numbers and in order to identify the set, make sure to put in the model family prefix.  In this case a "W"....(I presume) you are discussing the W950B.

For instance, there are two 65" 950B's.  XBR-65X950B and KDL-65W950B.  They are dramatically different TVs.  And this conversation will go haywire if we're not careful.

Well now I am rethinking about an interim TV before going 4k. Thanks to all who replied for the info, nothing worse than making decisions in a vacuum. check6

if your thinking of an interim TV you should look at the sharp UQ series it's a better than 1080p high quality picture but not quite uhd, but it is cheaper than an uhd TV untill the Vizio P series is released

Sorry for the confusion. Point taken. My comments were regarding the Sony W-series.

I'm generally not a Fan of LG ips panels (at least most that I have seen ) although IMO the Sony KDL 50,60,70 R550A are pretty decent .
I have an LG 42LN5300 (LG ips panel ofc. ) in one bedroom and a Sony KDL 40R450A in my bedroom with a Samsung SPVA panel .

The LG has a better viewing angle and the Sony has an abysmal viewing angle but the Sony has a much better picture ( pretty good ) in all other respects

I have 2 other sets with SPVA / VA panels they both beat the LG picture wise also . OTOH the Sammie plasma rules the roost here with the Sony in 2nd place.

Hires Music formats ..............."Why does it sound like a CD ?" ............. "can we make it louder "?

How did you find out that your R450A had a Samsung SPVA panel?  displaysearch.com?

The easy way I went into the service menu, it gives you the panel version # and manufacturer then I looked it up at panelook .com
