So I have a kind of general question that I'm sure someone here will be able to answer for me. I really wanted a W700B for its ridiculously low input lag, but seeing as it's European only (why is that exactly?) I figured I would settle for a W600 series TV, until seeing that the 2014 W600 series has much more lag than 2013's W600's. On top of that, the W800 series is out of my price range and has features I wouldn't be using anyway (3D mainly).

So my question is, when does Sony release/announce new models each year? It looks like February or so? I plan on just waiting for next year's models to see if the US gets another really low lag W series TV like the W700's. If not I may have to bite the bullet and turn to importing...

Correct Sony announces models in Jan (At CES or thereabouts I believe ) and releases *most of them in mid March or mid April .
W700B is EU /and other overseas models only . different set not offered here , Different panels also similar to US 800B but no 3D .

Sony US didn't make W600 in 2013 they did make a W650A 1080p 32" though
maybe that's what you meant?

Some folks say the W600B 's twitch game well have you read some of the posts here?
the input lag while not real low is probably not that bad in actual use .

Maybe they have a W600B at B.B with the PS4 demo there you could try ,they usually use Sony's for that.

Once In the Cinema mode then goto settings >picture and then adjust backlight and contrast (picture) to maximum . Cinema defaults to very low backlight and contrast but once you re set it it will stay put . That should fix you up . Cinema Mode and Neutral Color temp gives very accurate colors as a rule thats where my Sony (different model ) is set. however YMMV. Standard mode ( once its tweaked some ) is OK also.

, Also turn ALL the Eco/ power saver/ /light sensor stuff OFF . leave cine motion ON . Cinema Mode should take care of the rest try brightness and color between 50-60 ex; brightness to 55 color 60 or both to preference if not calibrating also turn OFF mpeg noise reduction and regular noise reduction .
The 800B uses an AUO MVA panel and should be decent .

Never mind. I found it on the Sony product page. It continues to offer the Auto Wide mode.

Thanks for the info, looks like I'll be paying attention to CES for once maybe.

maybe that's what you meant?

Probably, the model numbers have been confusing me, especially with the difference in them between regions.

I'm sure it's pretty good, as comparatively the whole line has lower input lag than lots of other TV's, especially older ones. Probably 80% of the time I'll be using it will be for gaming though, and I play a lot of rhythm games and twitch platformers and such. Might as well get the lowest lag set I can.

Yeah, saw the W600B in the local ad, so they should have one up somewhere. I have a friend who works in electronics there, I'm sure I could bring something and plug it in if a demo isn't already set up. Don't see the point though if I'm waiting for next year's models, since the panels will probably all change again.

Every Amazon review I've read says the same thing. Apparently Sony is at odds with Amazon for some reason and they haven't re-negotiated a deal or whatever.

600B is using Samsung SPVA edge light and the 800B/850B are using AUO MVA edge light panel .
Panels are not likely to change .

From what I've read going forward , AUO is going to be the preferred Sony panel vendor with fewer Samsung , LGD and Chi MEI Innolux panels .

Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO) will reportedly receive most of Sony's LCD TV panel orders in 2014, according to industry sources.
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20140224PD206.html

I think all the 2015 Sony might be going to 4K so their might not be much in lower price ranges .

I think Sony may have incurred too many complaints and warranty instances (just a guess) with LGD IPS panels in the W6/W7 and R520/R550 2013 Bravia lines . OFC Sony often buys bare panels. (LED Cells ) without backlights and install their own so that could have been a design or assy. QC. issue and not necessarily the LGD parts .

OTOH AUO and Samsung may have a price advantage .

Some of the better LGD IPS panel can look fine but it takes a lot of processing sometimes found on the more expensive Sonys for that .
You have to have fast processors for that because it has to look at a few frames then decide what to do and so on and so on .

Great info, thanks! I did go to Best Buy today to check out the floor models and you told me much more than the sales rep I talked to did (he was pretty much a jerk to get right to it). I thought both the 600B and the 800B looked pretty good though, my second highest concern beyond input lag was viewing angle and I didn't see much color distortion on either. Third would be black level but that's a bit harder to check in the store, especially when you have an unhelpful sales rep clearly trying to brush you off.

You don't happen to know if the 700B uses the AUO MVA panel as well do you? I believe it's just the 800B without 3D and maybe a couple other features so I'm hopeful it does.

Hopefully not. If it comes down to that I'll be quickly checking clearance at stores or seeing if import stores failed to sell their 700's. We'll see when the time comes I suppose...

I just exchanged a panasonic tc-39as530u and picked up a 40" w600b. I'm using it primarily for gaming and it seems pretty good.

There is some minor motion blur going on though. I actually just now beat Infamous on the PS4 and when the credits were rolling, it was noticeably jittery.

I'm tempted to keep it, if only because I'm not sure what else to try and I'd hate to risk getting something worse. And by most accounts this is one of the recommended models for gaming at this size and price point. Not to mention the whole return/exchange process is a pain.

Hi folks:

Picked up the 48w590B (48w600b) this weekend from Sam's Club. Thought I would pass on my experience with mounting the panel to my log wall. I wall mounted it using a Omnibasics OBFM60. Which is very similar to the Omnimount OS60FM as far as I can tell. I have used this mount in the past and seems to work very well. I really like the full motion with these types of mounts and they come with all the hardware you need. The one problem is the mount plate will hide the legacy ports. Not a problem for me since I only use one HDMi cable out from my receiver. Please see pics for the details. Hope this helps, -Bob

Seriously considering switching to the w800B. Do you guys think that prices will come down in a month or so? Debating on buying now or waiting.

I just bought a 60in LG plasma (PB6600) and was in love until realized how bad the lag was during gaming. So now I'm looking at the 800B, which is unfortunately 10in. smaller and $220 more. If I can save a bit by not having a TV for a couple weeks I will. I heard rumors that Samsung is trying to launch a cheaper 4k lineup at the end of the month so that may drop prices I would imagine

Anyone have experience with ABT.com? A friend wants to pick up the 50 inch model of the W800B and noticed that they're selling it for $1000 with an instant $200 rebate. Here is the link: http://www.abt.com/product/78022/Sony-KDL50W800B.html

I bought the exact TV from there.  Customer service was fantastic.  Just make sure your friend knows that the $200 rebate is already included in the price.

Amazon ,Dell,B&H Camera,PC Richards ,Beach Camera and others have it for the same price[/I] as noted above the price shown on their ad includes the rebate, that is clearly stated below the price .

Would I use ABT. ? probably not being a longstanding Amazon customer although ABT might be just fine and if Amazon did not have the same price I might. The ad was not misleading at all IMO and otherwise looked fine.

You guys got me excited when you mentioned $200 off. I was hoping to order one asap for $800. I've been tracking the price on this one and it's been $998 on amazon for 2 months now. I was/am hoping for a drop or sale soon to scoop it up

You better scoop it up now before they sell out at that price they are probably selling like hotcakes !
or try to get a price match at Amazon or Best buy while these guys still have them !

Amazon wouldn't match it. They don't match prices from that site. Might try best buy, I'll report back if I do

I believe the 50w800b has been 898 through Frys for awhile now, you do have to log in with an account to see the price. And I'm not sure about Amazon but Best Buy does price match them.

I thought Sony was staying with 40" and greater for 2014, is this a new 32" model for 2014 KDL-32R420B? It says new on their site?

One story of more than a few about Abes of Maine - things like this have to make you wonder about CNET. Just shows that $ can buy you anything even an endorsement from CNET. Validates many forum members thoughts about CNET too. Glad to read they bought from Amazon, call me Prime addicted smile.gif

From the article: "On May 22, 2007, this company’s membership in the Metropolitan New York BBB was revoked by our BBB’s Board of Directors due to the company’s repeated and unauthorized use of the BBB logo and failure to eliminate the underlying cause of complaints on file "
If they would use the BBB logo without BBB permission, I wouldn't be surprised if they would use CNET as an endorsement without their permission.

Abes of Maine appears to be a Cnet trusted store and legitimate all in all they might be fine .

OTOH you can't go wrong with Amazon should any issues come up
they are excellent in that respect . might be worth the extra dough
I'm a Prime member there no complaints .

Will do! If anyone has calibration settings, please post them. I just read the review by hdtvtest and they mentioned the colors were off until they "adjusted the gain to d65k" whatever that means..

Glad I went with amazon, $50 is worth it to know if I run into problems with the TV I have a company that will help me out. Im coming from a 2014 LG 60PB6600, which just had too much lag for gaming so this TV was the obvious choice in my price range

Good of you to post the heads up I'm glad to hear mike86325 went with Amazon I removed my references to Abes of Maine based on the linked article in your post .
I thought the Cnet logo looked kind of jenky so I looked at Cnet After I posted here ,I could not find any reference at at Cnet about them being a trusted store . maybe the Cnet was LOGO was photoshopped or otherwise snipped in
