What's the scoop with the W600B series? I have been looking at them for a while now for a gaming setup, however, Amazon does not directly sell them any longer (3rd parties only) and Costco's versions are disappearing (40" no longer on their site and the 48" is $50 off).
I was considering buying the Costco 48" version W590B, but now I find out that it might not have a VESA pattern for wall mounting?
Apparently the 50" W600B needs a $50 adapter to mount it on a VESA wall mount.
Does anyone know if it's the same for thr 48" W590B model as well or is it compatible with VESA mounts?
FWIW 2013 Sony 40R450A vs 2014 Sony 40W600B @ Rtings.com
looks like 2013 may be a little better in *some respects *
including panel . Either one should be fine.
New porn smart TV app ................. SRSLY info can probably B found here @ Sony e support
just click on the download link for description specific to your set after U input model .
Can anyone tell me, how dark Impusle mode makes the TV? Like what equivalent backlight settings would you normally lower it to that you think Impulse mode looks like? Is it equivalent to setting the backlight at zero? Or is it something like having the backlight at only 10-20%?
FYI, couple new low-end/mid-range W/R Series models for NA seem to be popping up:
KDL-40R350B, appears to be a Walmart exclusive model. Looks like the successor to last year's R450A. 39.5" panel, 60Hz, Motionflow XR120, 2 HDMI, no X-Reality Pro Engine (Likely uses the Clear Resolution Enhancer). Not on Sony's website:
There appears to be an Asia Pacific model with the same number. Looks like it has some added features: something called X-Protection Pro, which is meant to protect the TV from heat, humidity, surge damage, etc., and an FM tuner:
And they've also released a W700B model, which looks to be slightly different than the W700 Sony sells in other parts of the world. It's the W800B minus the 3D, with the aluminum chassis in silver instead of black. Retains all the other features of the W800B: X-Reality Pro, Smart, 120Hz, odd non-VESA wall mount/stand. I set one of these up (50") and it indeed had all the standard Motionflow and Cinemotion settings, so it would appear it's really a 120Hz panel. Also comes in a 55". Price is good: $899 for the 50" and $999 for the 55". Not on Sony's website either.
I have seen that KDL-40R350B at my local Wal-Mart for some time now, it seems exclusive to Wal-Mart.
The 50" and 55" are quite interesting though, I have no need for 3D and if it has similar specs to the W800B then it could be a really good option. I did a chat with Sony NA and they have no record of the W700B, it is sold in Latin America only under a similar model (W700A) and were unable to help me.
I'm looking at some of the reviews & LED Motion on the W600B lowers the brightness of the TV to 29.0 cd/m2? Doesn't setting the backlight to zero produce something like 80.0 cd/m2? Exactly how DIM does the TV get with the LED Motion option set to on. Seems unusable unless you play with all the lights out at night? Can it be used during the day, if I close all the curtains or would it still be too dim?
I just recently got the 48" W600B (actually the Costco version) so I haven't played around with it much yet. However the LED Motion mode does make the screen quite dim. I imagine you would get used to it after a little while, but in general it does seem to be recommended for dark rooms. But if you have blackout curtains your room might be dark enough during the day.
I remember reading in some review that the equivalent Motionflow Impulse mode on the W800B is in some way "less aggressive", so maybe it doesn't make the image quite as dim? The W800B might be brighter (stronger LEDs) in general.
Unfortunately I've seen opinions on Motionflow Impulse (same as LED Motion mode) range from "completely unusable due to dimming (or flickering)" to "will never play a game without it again!" so I guess it's really subjective. At least I'm glad Sony has given us the option! Hopefully one day they will also give us the option of adjusting the backlight strobing duty cycle, so we can choose the dimming/flickering vs. clear motion tradeoff ourselves.
After I try it out I'll post my impressions. At least the flickering doesn't bother me, which I was more concerned about than the dimming.
Obviously, this is an "introductory" price so I would expect to see them down in the $700 range for the 50" which would be amazing if it has the same specifications/reviews as the W800B series (minus 3D capabilities).
Sony usually comes out of the gate a little higher and then settle down ofc they might not have as much room with these new sets .
OTOH if Sony inc. gives the new TV owned subsidiary some leeway with earnings calls in the near term (and also with expected lower operating costs ) maybe they can price favorably and hold to it to add market share in the value segment ........... just think Cheap Sony = new and better than cheap Viseo model
Haha, for sure. Vizio has tempted me but I am holding out for that perfect Sony model for my needs; not trying to be a fan-boy, they just have everything I want in a TV (except for the cheap price).

Go for the Sony my 2013 60 60Hz 40r450a has very good pix bought a 49.00 Roku 1 for it to give it probably better web business than reg Sony smart TV app. It actually has better black and contrast + brighter than 2014 W600B model you can score one here (see below) with a 1 yr. warranty for cheap I got mine there
At least with the 2013 R4 you for sure get a better panel than most worth it to me. I got mine at this joint below fast free shipping,no tax and 1 yr warranty same as NIB mine was new and unused only slight damage to orig box that's it they test them B4 shipping also . lots of other deals there also even 2014 Sony's This is my 4th Sony over the years no regrets on any of them and always the best pictures .
No Idea what panels are in these new Sony's (yet) but I know what the other 2014 Sony's use .

What's this model here ? KDL42W700B This is in Canada. I went through this thread but couldn't see anything about this model. I am just comparing which one is better ? The KDL42W700B or KDL48600B ?

Both are only 60hz panels, with No MotionFlow Options in the Settings Menu. I had the 42W700B, it was a nice set, had deep blacks, but being only 60hz was a deal breaker for me. It uses an AUO Panel. I exchanged it for the 50W800B, which I couldn't be more happier with!
KDL48600B is back light most likley Samsung SPVA panel or US models are Samsung panels
KDL42W700B is not avail in US is edge lit could be LGD or more likely AUO edge lite
I try to avoid edge lit panels to many problems also uniformity, color banding and clouding all are more common and severe on edge light
specs are same other than type/size panels I have a 2013 40R450a with rear light Samsung panel V.G. pix I would go for 48600B
Its strange the 42w700b is not in the US, also it looks like the tv comes in 32" and 42" and nothing bigger here in Canada. So I guess the better choice is the 48w600b ?
I tried taking photograph with iPad of TV screen with and without LED motion mode but the exposure gets adjusted by the ipad software. So can't get comparative picture. Too lazy to take a photo on a standard camera in manual mode and transfer to PC. Anyway there is drastic reduction in brightness. There is also a comparative image on a review website.
If you want to judge the motion smoothness on an online video it will not be accurate. First is the fps rate of the camera, then multiple video processing and compression by originator and hosting website.
Isn't it black frame insertion alongside backlight scanning? I'm using a monitor with black frame insertion & it doesn't dim the screen at all, but it doesn't really help with the motion resolution either.
This is one area where the Sony Bravia W82 trumps over the step-down W7 model, offering motion-compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) and black frame insertion (BFI) in various permutation and intensity through the supplied [Motionflow] control. Let’s go through the options one by one:
“Off”: Doesn’t apply any motion-boosting technology. Motion resolution 300 as determined via the horizontally scrolling lines pattern in Chapter 31 of the FPD Benchmark Software disc.
“True Cinema”: Ensures native 24p playback for 1080p/24 material such as Blu-ray movies. Motion resolution stays the same at 300, since there’s no MCFI/ BFI involved.
“Standard”: Pure MCFI. Doubles motion resolution to 600. Not advised.
“Smooth”: Pure MCFI with stronger intensity, which introduces more interpolation artefacts even though motion resolution did not increase beyond 600. Avoid.
“Clear”: MCFI with a small component of BFI. Few interpolation artefacts with a mild decrease in on-screen luminance. Motion resolution 1080. Good for daytime general use.
“Clear Plus”: MCFI with a higher proportion of BFI. Even less interpolation artefacts, but picture is darker than “Clear“. Motion resolution 1080. Suitable for night-time general viewing.
“Impulse”: Pure BFI. Motion resolution 1080. May be too dim for most usage.
Their was some discussion and experieces recounted regarding these guys in earlier threads here no positive customer experiences noted in fact quite the opposite and nothing at C net indicates they are a trusted store or a Sony autorized retailer two words come to mind caveat emptor
Yeah, I remember reading that Abe's and other sites like them put the logos from Cnet, the Better Business Bureau, etc on their site even though they are actually not approved by these organizations. I don't know how they get away with that. I'm also miffed that Google allows them to buy advertizing space (though not surprised I guess). Is there a way to complain to Google about this I wonder?
This is my 55W805B here in Norway... and a little backlight trouble in an unlit room. No issues otherwise with the panel in normal viewing, and I'm quite happy with it. I only wish the "Clear" motion setting didn't take such a brightness hit.
How are other people finding the black screen uniformity?
Why does Sony not have any newer 2014 model 32-42" range TV's here in the US? All the good models in that size like the KDL-32W700B and KDL-42W700B with low input lag are in Canada or Europe. I need something 42" or less that will fit on a desk and be used almost solely for console gaming.
