85" UH8550 is much thicker than its siblings!!
Received and installed my new 85" HU8550 this weekend, replacing my lightning-damaged UN75F8000 bought just 11 months ago.
In doing so, I noticed that the thickness of the UH8550 was massive as compared to the F8000; where the 75" F8000 was only about 1/2" deep for most of the screen (thicker at the bottom where the connections & electronics reside), the 85" HU8550 is a full 2.7" thick around most of the panel.
And here's the interesting thing - checking the User Manuals on Samsung.com, all the rest of the UNxxHU8550 family are less than 1.4" thick, while the 85" version is nearly TWICE as thick (and has its own, separate user guide from the other members).
I'm wondering if maybe the 85" is in fact FALD instead of edge-lit, as some have stated (and others have denied).
Oh, and yes: the picture is nothing short of amazing (after a little bit of tuning). The UHD upconversion is better than the 4K upconversion on my DENON AVR4520CI (which rendered a softer picture); I haven't yet compared with the 4K upconversion on my OPPO105. With this trio, it is taking a while to work through all the possible combinations of Picture settings to get the best image from each of my sources (thank goodness for my Harmony Ultimate as I knock these down 1 by 1).
