This may have been asked before, but I am planning to get the 75" or 85" 8550, where would be the best place to get it from? I am looking for good return policy (just in case), good price match/refund policy and lower price (+no state tax would be great, I'm in CA).

1. Amazon: Good return policy, 14 day price match/refund but state tax, default pricing
2. Samsung: $500 less than Amazon (thru my employer's employee purchase program with Samsung), but state tax and shipping fee
3. ?

Got my tracking number for the UHD pack. Can someone tell me how big the box it came in is?

Thanks.

Looks like the new version is out. (post#3733). At 400 buck if I cant sell the old one i got i think ill pass. They should have a way to be able to download new movies to any version of the boxes thru the smart hub.

If I did somehow get it to output 5.1/7/1 is there a way to turn OFF the cable audio? Running Netflix from the tv seems to keep whatever cable station still on (and thus audio through my AVR).

I have BD player and Motorola box HDMI into the Onkyo, with the 8550 HDMI out.
you will want to put the Toslink input into a separate input like CD Player, Media Player, etc. and switch the onkyo to that input while netflix is running on the TV.

no need to buy a "HD antenna" if you have a standard antenna already. I have a 31 year old Channel Master that works for both digital and analog channels flawlessly. IMO a HD antenna is a sales gimmick.

I would check your settings and be sure you have selected "Air" for the source and rescan. Also check the line to be sure it has a signal.

Amazon has always been a 30-day no-fault return for me. I checked as recently at 2 weeks ago -- has it changed since then? Amazon's delivery also includes unboxing and setting without an extra charge.

Samsung charges a re-stocking fee if you return.

Hey guys,

I just got my HU9000 last night and it's pretty fantastic so far! Just a couple quick questions for some of the folks out there who have had their TV for a while.

1.) Any idea how I can install Hulu Plus and ESPN via the Smart Hub? I can't seem to find them anywhere nor could I find a search.

Just a comment, I fell into the Netflix black hole last night. Hopefully they fix that soon I don't think the wife would be too happy. Just a simple reset did the trick to fix it under the self diagnosis but you lose all your picture settings which is a pain.

Thanks!

Thanks for the Samsung re-stocking fee hint, man. For Amazon, it is kind of weird, isn't it. They have 30 day return policy, but only 14 day price match policy (including price changes on Amazon.com)

Doesn't make too much sense since I could return and repurchase.

I think Crutchfield might be a good one

I've seen mention of the Netflix "black hole", but not of the perpetual reboot loop that I experienced when setting up FiOS STB on my new UN85HU8550. This one almost caused me to return as a Lemon until I figured it out.

Seems that if you try to display the Guide data for the FiOS STB before the TV has had sufficient time to download all of the guide data, the TV will drop into the perpetual black hole of reboots. FiOS in my area delivers more than 1000 channels, which apparently takes some time to dowload.

To get out of this particular reboot is tricky: after the SMART boot screen, you'll have about 5 seconds where you can enter the Service Mode code and move the cursor. But first, you have to get the TV to turn OFF...by hitting the Power button repeatedly right after you see the smart screen.

IIRC, the sequence to do a factory reset is:
<Service Code> (Google it, it is 4 buttons plus Power)
<Right Arrow>
<Right Arrow>
<Enter>

If you can get that done within a couple of seconds (not that hard, if you're ready), you will be greeted by the New TV Setup screen the next time you power on the TV. You will of course have to totally reset everything to your liking.

I went through this far too many times before I figured out what was causing it. Once I did, I made it a point not to display the Guide (in any form) for 12 hours (just to be safe). Since that, the guide works fine and I haven't wound up in a black hole since.

I have no idea if this occurs on any other version/model. And if everybody already knew about this one, sorry to bother you with my experience.

Non defective returns have a return shipping charge from Amazon. Damages must be reported within 14 days now with Amazon as well last I read ( Which is crazy ).

For these higher end units, full price, plus tax is a lot of money for a no questions asked return. BB and a few local others are about the only place where you would get a 100% return with no questions asked. Then again usually they ask questions.

I returned my HU9000 to amazon because I wanted a bigger model, no questions asked.

The newer one (400) has about 10 movies and 32 documentaries.

I just checked again with Amazon because that was not my experience and they confirmed I have 30 days return, no-fault, and that I would NOT incur any return shipping charges regardless of the reason for the return.

Would you mind sharing all of your calibration settings for us rookies, so we could calibrate the HU8550. I have the UN75HU8550 and am hoping that the calibration settings would be the same as the 65. Any help is greatly appreciated

Amurphy, why did you re-post Chad's review again? He had posted it here previously.

Kind of defeats the purpose of Calibrators if you can just go online and get that info. $400 calibration and people always want it for free.

I was just looking at Chad's rankings on his webpage, and he gave this TV a 1 for viewing angle. Is it really that bad?

The 85" I spent time with wasn't but not sure if it's comparable to the smaller sizes.

But note that Chad gives a 1 for angle to a majority of all the LCD's he reviews and most of the LCD's that get better than a 1 get a 4. The same scale is used for other display techs like plasma that are always going to tip the scale in this category.

I always wondered if somebody would get around to saying that. I've used settings posted here to check out a set I just purchased but in the end I also get my set professionally calibrated due to set to set differences. I'm scheduled for one in September (HU9000) with Jeff.

Thanks! Looking at either the 60" or 65". I know I'm going to lose some off-axis viewing, but don't want it to be horrible

They made the new one more attractive to someone looking to purchase the pak. It would be nice if it was possible to download the new stuff on the free one.

That's a different mentality then what I'm used to seeing in these threads. You're paying $400 because no 2 sets or viewing spots are the same so you want it dialed in for you but all my other samsungs in the past people love sharing what they have and letting people try them.

Usually the people who share their settings are those who didn't use calibrators or who self-calibrated.

That's fair, I guess most of my other experience has been with more main stream non high end models. Just have been surprised at the lack of settings shared in this thread but that makes sense.

Absolutely purchase from Crutchfield (they are authorized on-line dealers, too). They have AMAZING customer support and even guarantee WELL AFTER the time frame. I just got my HU8550 from them delivered yesterday and have 100% faith that if there are any issues, Crutchfield will take it back no questions.

Best buy and Sears have been the best places for me in the past.
14 to 30 days return policy with no restocking fees.. but your generally posting highest price for this, but it's worth it to me

There was a rumor way back when that the 2nd hard drive Sammy was going to release in the Summer would have the ability to download more content. I wonder if this is that rumored drive? Interestingly Crutchfield has it listed under 4K players (which likely means nothing).
