So now I have a question regarding this: Could a say 2015 version of the Evolution kit which would in theory would have more powerful processor's than what's inside the 2014 4k tv, help reduce the input lag issue's because of the more powerful theoretical processor's of the 2015 Evolution kit?
I have no input lag issues with my 55" HU8550. For what it's worth my PC monitor is rated 18ms which is lower than almost all TVs, and I don't notice a difference between it and the Samsung.

I have it set up with an Onkyo TX-SR705, Speakercraft AIM8 FIVE 7.1 system, and "temporary" Panasonic BDT360 BD player (Oppo 103D on it's way). My panel is housed in an amoire (wife, not my idea!) kitty-cornered in an 18'x24' family room with a fireplace. Even with 8(!) windows in this room, I do not mind the panel's reflective screen even during the day. I'm coming from a Sony Aquos LCD with a pure matte screen. I'm giving you these specs to denote that this is not a true HT set-up, but more for total family viewing.

Clouding: None

Banding: None

Flashlighting: very minor in two bottom corners, almost invisible when backlight setting is <10. I've heard taking a microfiber cloth and rubbing in circles gently removes this. I'm waiting to put some more hours on the panel before I try this.

Pixels: perfect

Screen does "turn off" when there is "no signal" or a handshake. The "No source detected" message comes up if I don't have the cable box on or BD player on, not really a concern just a mention.

I believe once I'm done with all adjustments, this will be an almost perfect panel (IH01). I know you mentioned you had a wife. I'm married with 4 kids, and it has passed the "family" test with flying colors.

My wife has 20/15 vision and I have 20/18. We sit anywhere from 6 ft (me) to 12 ft away (her), and she immediately saw a difference. "The PQ looked amazing!" This was with Comcast 1080i movies and shows. The HU8550 does a superb job upconverting BD content. I have a wired connection (105/10) and am pleased with Netflix & Amazon; they upload almost instantly. My 7-year-old watches animated shows on Netflix and after they buffer (3-5 seconds), the upconversion from 2K to 4K makes them almost look native 4K. (If you want to see native 4K, put the set in shop demo mode and look at the mountain scenes with the sheep. They look like they can be plucked right out of the panel!) I am very impressed with the upconversion so far, simply breathtaking.

I pick some of the standard movies in my BD library (Iron Man, Avengers) and 3D movies I just recently purchased (Prometheus, Star Trek, Tangled) and everyone is impressed. I'm still playing around with the depth settings on the BD player because 3D is completely new to me. Also, I have to comment on SDVD. I picked out one of my Criterions, L'Avventura (B&W) and thought I had put in a BD (even though no BD of this movie exists yet). I had to actually go within 6 inches of the panel to see any artifacts. This was the best I have ever seen this SDVD look anywhere. I'll be checking out more SDVDs as I go along.

I know sharing calibration settings has been a very "hot" topic as of late, so I'm reluctant to post these for fear of being flamed. If anyone has questions about specific settings, you can PM me.

I was a little hesitant (as anyone is) with my purchase and nervous about justifying it to my wife. My wife has been impressed and actually happy (go figure!) with the purchase, as well as my kids with 3D. I have absolutely no buyer's remorse, especially with the $200 discount and free $300 Samsung UHD video packet on its way.

I'd give this panel a 9.8/10. There are obviously some imperfections (I'm completely OCD about details!) I really don't know how this could be better without going OLED, but that will be at least a 50% mark up over anything we have now, and well beyond my "justification" range for a family room set-up. If I were getting this panel for a true HT room, I would definitely have gotten a 75" or 85".

Would you think a 65 inch would do the trick for a basement home theater - which is not professional by any means?

The new UHD pack has

World War Z, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Night at the Museum, The Counselor, Forrest Gump, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, Life of Pi, and The Book Thief. It also includes thirty 4K nature documentaries.

I wish we got that one.. Life of Pi in 4k would be nuts!
Does anyone know if or when we're going to be able to download mew movies to this hard drive?

Audio: Yamaha A-S1000 Stereo Amplifier // Kef LS50 Speakers // Energy EW8 Subwoofer
Video: Samsung 65in HU9000 UHD TV // Oppo BDP-105 Blu-ray player // Apple TV (3G)
Power: Furman PST-8 AC Power Conditioner

UN75HU8550FXZA or Sony ES STR-DA5800ES as hub

First off, my apologies if this topic has been discussed previously. This thread is ginormus

I'm still reading through all the functions on the HU8550, but I'd like to know opinions on using the TV or my 5800ES as the HDMI connection hub. I used the A/v receiver as the hub with my prior TV

These are the devices I use in my theater room, most used to least:

1. ATT Uverse DVR - I don't like the Samsung guide, so will be using the DVR's guide and remote
2. PS4 - Primary Bluray player, but I also have an Oppo 103
3. Xbox One
4. Chromecast
5. Amazon Fire TV
6. Apple TV

More than any other criteria, I want the fewest number of remotes possible.

How did you reduce lag to below 18 ms? My son connected his Xbox to the panel and notice immense lag in Halo. He said he couldn't even play the game because lag was so bad (maybe around 100 ms). Did you do a renaming trick of the inputs?

Yes don't quote me because it hasn't happened yet but were supposed to get an app when ready that will let us download for free from Samsung new movies for the Hard drive. I think they said 50 total movies by the end of 2014.

But even better news Life of Pi will be in 4k through m-go. They have a partnership with Samsung and they will be releasing (hopefully any day now over 100 4k movies). All you need is the m-go app on the tv. I am not excitied for life of Pi but they will have movies like gladiator and all the new movies.

Will streaming be the only option for 4k movies on M-go? Or can we DL them to our Samsung HDD?

You must have read what I said wrong, my PC monitor (LG 34UM95) is 18ms. Comparing it to the Samsung, I don't notice a difference in input lag. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/ reviewed the HU8700 recently and measured 40ms... that is the same panel used in the HU8550, just curved. Early reviews of the 8550 put it at ~60ms, so it seems firmware updates have brought that down since. But can't say for sure since I haven't seen any outlet re-test it. Either way... the lag is no problem at all for me.

Yes I did rename the input to PC on the Samsung, that is a must. I can definitely feel the input lag on default settings

I feed all of my video directly to the TV through it various inputs and feed the sound directly to the Parasound processor from each source. Works out great and has the most direct path. I feed my OPPO sound through the 5.1 analog connection.

You paid good coin for that receiver, use it, hook everything up to it and for your 4K source in HDMI 1 set it to pass through.

Receiver if you want good sound and it has a "pass through" mode that doesn't affect the video stream. Assuming it's got the capability (almost all do for last 7-8 years), it will decode lossless codecs from Blu Ray (i.e., Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA). The display won't pass anything above DD 5.1 over optical digital to the receiver. Plus, assuming all your HDMI components are "1.3a" or above, you should have automatic lip sync adjustments over HDMI. You lose that capability with the optical digital.

They announced that at ces. (Mgo that is)... Google m-go 4k and a bunch of links show it. They said spring release and it's now summer so hopefully it's any day now. Also you can YouTube it there's a video and shows some movies coming from the m-go app page.

Oh and just and FYI the movies are pay as you buy. Didn't state that. It's not a subscription like netflix it's you just buy the movies you want to buy.

Not in Italy... From 1st July till 31st August only... I think the HU8500 (9000 in US) bought 27th April will be my last Samsung purchase, considering how the brand "rewards" the full price buyers of the new products!... I also tried to discuss the matter with the Italian customer service: A-holes!!!... :-(

Hi again,

I forgot to ask in my last post if getting a future 2015 Evolution Kit would also help improve the current Clear Motion Rate of 1200? Besides hopefully helping lower the input lag as well.

Of coarse I am basing these two question's on the premiss that the 2015 version of the Evolution Kit will have more powerful processor's inside of the kit!

Finally saw the curve 9000 vs the flat 8550 today.

To me, the hands down winner was the 80 inch 8550.....

I can tell you I reviewed the Sony 79X900B and the Samsung 85HU8550 side by side for a week in my home and kept the Samsung. The 85" Samsung is superior to the 79" Sony in almost every way except for the sound (I have a surround system though so it doesn't matter to me). The smaller sized Sony 4K TVs have much better reviews though.

You mean 85? There is a 75 and a 85..

And do you say this because of the size, if you are talking 85?

I'm trying to decide between 79 9000 and 75 8550. Mostly worried about motion difference, 1200 versus 1400 clear motion. Wish the 8550 had 1400, then wouldn't be a decision..

Agreed,I would take the 55/65 Sony over all others, but take the 75+ sammys..

Question for you, how does the 8550 look on 1080 material? Looks very soft to me when I view at BB. Hoping it will look better at home off of my Verizon fios

Unless they were calibrated and set to the same light output side by side has little meaning.
