Yes you will. Can't tou tell the difference on really small tv's with 1080p?

Same principle here the clarity will be nuts.

I was looking at the 50HU8550 & the pixel pitch is ridiculously tiny. Almost retina-like

Hi guys
I don't know if anyone uses the voice commands on these TVs (I don't, except for 3D on/off which is much quicker than having to go through umpteen menus using the standard remote!), but my TV (HU9000) used to recognise free-format random commands like "find me something with Kristin Kreuk" with surprising precision, but recently it will not recognise anything other than pre-programmed commands like "3D on/off", "Volume up/down" etc. For anything else, you get the stupid "I failed to understand what you said"! response!
Does anyone know what could've caused this?

I have the 75h8550 being delivered in 2 weeks and have a question I couldn't find anywhere: does this tv support external hard drives over 2TB? My current samsung only supports up to 2TB, but I've heard varying responses that 3TB are sometimes recognized.

we have a 40 inch 1080p and a 50 inch 1080p. i can't really tell the different between 720 or 1080 on the 40 inch so that is why i ask.

That would be a big fat no, on if it is worth it or not for 4K on a 55". Save your cash or go bigger, 65" minimum from that distance......

No kidding? The ARC input requires the HDMI cable to stick out perpendicular from the back of the TV? That sucks.... guess I'll be buying a 90° adapter as well before I buy the TV.

Calibration Service

Ok so I have my 100 hours in of viewing my 8550. I am taking everyone's advice and having my set professionally calibrated. Can anyone recommend a good calibration service in North New Jersey?

Yeah - HD Guru's review of the 55" model has a picture of the rear of the TV. The manual also indirectly shows this as a flat HDMI jack, versus side-facing HDMI jacks for the other inputs (like MHL).

Is anyone else having problems accessing Netflix since the last software upgrade? My screen goes black and my remotes stop working. I have to turn the TV off and then back on again in order to get back to my cable TV channels. I reset the Smart Hub, but that didn't seem to help. Any ideas? I have a 75" 8550.

That's not what I mean. I mean like a 20" tv with 240hz 1080p.

It would look like that. If you ever seen one of those little tv's they can be freakishly good.

That being said you can see a difference on a 55" tv at 9' away with 20/20 vision.

That means slightly more crisp and better color.

10' away things sharply begin to change. You would need to go bigger as you go back. About 10" difference for every 5' away you move. I'd not sit more than 15' from a tv. Unless it's the 120".

At some point it's all the same. The. You get into projectors.

The color benefit would still be visible. 4k projectors too.

The 4k resolution stops 13 to 14' to me on my 65".

My eye sight is 20/15.

I had the same problem, it happens if you do not exit Netflix properly, i.e you have to click on "Exit Netf;lix", rather than just using the remote's exit button like with other apps. When it happens, the only way to fix it is doing a Factory Reset. Go to Support Menu -> Self Diagnosis -> Reset.

Once its fixed make sure you always exit Netflix properly.

yeah so probably would be best with a 65 inch at that distance.

I suspect if you contact Chad who did the reviews posted here he tours NJ on a recurring basis. Give it a try.

BTW, does anyone know if the 100 hour break-in is actually relevant for LCD screens? That's a legacy of plasma when it took a while for the plasma gases to settle. I'm not sure why it would technically matter for LCD but perhaps there's a reason I haven't heard of.

Hey guys

Quick question. I took the picture below in one of the setup menus, in this case, the Universal Remote Setup, as these menus have a dark'ish grey colour and help to show up any screen uniformity issues.

I took this picture in Movie mode, with most settings not far from their standard, and backlight on 11. I just want to know if this is fairly par for the course so to speak, or whether it's something I should be concerned with? Notice the top middle and bottom right areas which seem to be a fair amount brighter than anywhere else. Also, there's a faint horizontal bar running through the 'TV' word in the part of the sentence "Samsung TV remote." Also, slightly purple shade noticed on the right side.

What do you think?

Is just the menu design. My set has the exact same.pattern in the exact same spots. No issue at all.

Correct. I bought the 50 inch 8550 and it is a giant retina display if you sit close. Do not test this with 1080p material but get the demos linked earlier that were encoded in UHD. They are incredible. I don't have a 4K video card but when using this as a giant monitor at 1080p from my Mac Pro, you cannot see any pixel elements from 3 feet in front of the screen. In my view, if you sit close to the TV, the smaller the screen size the better for achieving a "retina display" effect.

FYI this is an incredible deal on a Samsung bluetooth sound bar that works great with this TV connected via Samsung's proprietary bluetooth format. I showed the ad at Fry's and they matched the price...

OK, thanks a lot!

I just want to make sure I'm not being too picky that's all. I've been on plasma for the last 6 years, so possibly I've gotten used to the perfect screen uniformity they offer. These two areas of the screen that I mention do crop up outside of the test screen though. Most noticeably the far right side, not specifically the bottom part, the whole area on the right. It discolours a little, so you can see a change in flesh tones sometimes, or just a general increase in brightness with certain colours. The area towards the top sometimes causes a noticeable dirty screen effect. If this is all normal for this set then that's fine. But I just wanted to know because if it's not, then I'd like to do something about it.
