Oh and for those in the US we got ****** on the features! All the best ones are currently not available in the US or Canada and that includes using the TV with an external HD as a DVR!!! Soccer Mode is not available in the US right now either and from what I heard, that is must have feature for sporting events.

Is there an advantage using this player to upscale? I thought it was better to let the TV do the up scaling?

Excited to report I took the plunge and bought the 65HU9000 from BB. Delivery is in a couple of weeks. I've been looking at 4K for awhile and think this is the best package of display, apps and innovation. Will let you know how it looks when it is setup.

Interested to hear others thoughts on TV.

I read a review from UK that the TV has dual view too, in fact the active glasses they show are the same model than OLED sets have.
Why dual view is not possible with the HU9000?

Is anybody aware of any retailers that have the hu8500 on display in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area, UK?

There is no lag in game mode, and i still can't believe how good the picture looks! Tv does a fine job of upscalling I:SS to 4k, but it just doesn't compare to native 4k of those two PC games, which is perfectly normal. Haven't watched any movies...yet! Will do that tonight, but i couldn't notice any blooming or clouding even with the curtains on!

Hope that helps, and here's a few PC pic's in native 4k, for you fellas to enjoy on your new sets!

Project CARS

and some I:SS

So far you are the only user that I've seen on here that has given a good demo to this set with a high end HTPC gaming machine.  A few questions/requests:

1.  Have you tired any fast moving first person shooter games?  Your machine would be a good candidate for Battlefield 4 or Crysis 3.  I am particularly interested in your impressions on the response time and input lag.  How is ghosting and tearing?  Can this monitor keep up?

2.  A few users are reporting some lag, in particular with console gaming.  I'm wondering if this might be attributable for their lack of compliant HDMI hardware.  It is interesting however, that, since a console is limited to 1080 or lower resolutions, we would be hearing a complaint of lag from them in particular.  Especially considering this sets high refresh rate.

For all users, can someone please turn on a high quality feed of a sporting event and look for obvious signs of ghosting?

I have watched several HD hockey games and everything looks great. This is with the motion setting = clear.

Same here. I have been watching the NHL playoffs every nite with the clear motion settings and it looks fantastic with no ghosting.

Same here. NHL looks amazing with the 8550.

I have noticed that some different camera angles will alter the colors of the team jerseys slightly; i'm not sure if this is an issue with the TV or something to do with the broadcast, but i'd guess the latter.

For example, Dallas has White and Lighter Green away jerseys, and in some close up shots they look Teal and White.

Hey Guys,

I just setup my HU8550 and I'm wondering if I should but this calibration disc:

http://www.amazon.com/Spears-Munsil-Benchmark-Calibration-Edition/dp/B00CKWI13O/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I know there is a free one, but this disc seems to be able to do some things that the free one can't and is more up to date (given I'm calibrating a 4k TV) has anyone else used Spears-Munsil before?  Has anyone used it on their HU8550?

This is my first time calibrating and I'm just beginning to learn about calibration and I would like to improve my TV's performance- especially with regards to 3d.

Any tips for a beginner - especially with regards to the Munsil Disc and the Samsung HU8550 (flat screen).

Thanks,

Mike

I have a dilemma. I have ordered the Samsung F8500 and will get it in 2 weeks but i was wondering if i should get the F9000 instead and buy the upgrade oneconnect when it releases? i had decided on the F8500 because i currently own a Kuro Elite and watching TV in daylight with all blinds closed would be difficult as you could barely see anything. When i read that this TV is as bright as an LCD my interest was peaked. I got this TV for my in-laws and have to say the PQ and even 3D is outsanding and makes it okay to let the Kuro finally go. i have seen the F9000 in the store but only with whatever useless loop they had running and that was not impressive. Since the price points are similar i don't know what to do. PQ and 3D are most important to me which the F8500 excels at but having the 4K future proffing is attractive also. I wonder if anyone has compared these 2 models or can offer some advice.

Also have any of you had any experience with redmere hdmi cables? Anything i should be aware off?

I'm a little confused about these "Official" threads.

What makes a thread "official"?  Why are there multiple official threads for the same device (for example, I think there currently are at least two official threads for the HU8550).  And, if they aren't really "official", why are they named as such?

Are the official threads created or moderated differently than non-official threads?

Just wondering.

DG

So im a bit confused.. Amazon notes that the HU8550 has both the PurColor engine and Auto Depth Enhancer. On Samsungs website i could have sworn I read that the HU8550 had the auto depth enhancer but its no longer listed in the specs. Has anyone had the chance to do a side by side of these two sets.. I really didn't want to spend more than 4k for a 65.. but if its going to be a noticeably better viewing experience with the 9000 I may give it more consideration.. Only thing I was thinking, at $5k then the new Sony X900B 65in becomes an option and that set (at least exteriorly) looks gorgeous.

Doesn't work for me... limited to 30Hz via DVI-D -> HDMI. Did you leave everything at the defaults when creating a custom resolution?

Here's a lil pic i just snapped of my desktop where you can see that it is indeed 3840x2160@60Hz.

Now, if what they say is true, there is no way i would be able to have that 60Hz there, it would be 30Hz, but trust me... it simply works!

Just got a 8550 delivered today! Works perfect. I don't notice any clouding, spotlighting, or flashlight effects that I have been reading about. The brightness is amazing! Brighter than any LCD that I have seen.
Played a 1080P mkv of Dreamscapes in XBMC while res was set to 3840x2160 and it looked like 4K source.
Earlier I had my res set at 60hz at 3840 using a DVI to HDMI. But since I plugged in a third monitor, I could only select 30hz. I have 2 video cards in this PC. Currently Nvidia 750Ti, and a GT630. I will swap some cards from another PC maybe tomorrow.
Watching the Yankees now on MLB looks amazing!

I wonder what I'm doing wrong then. I have a 780, did have a second  monitor connected at first but I also tried diconnecting it and same thing - no 60Hz option. I tried forcing 60Hz, but then just get a black screen.

I'm also really impressed with the picture quality of this set. The black levels are better than my full array LG LH90 and there's no blooming. Here's a quick pic I took running Dark Souls 2 at 4K:

Are you playing that on PC or console? Do you notice any input lag? I know it's not a FPS but just curious. The input lag numbers is the only thing stopping me from buying the HU9000! I literally have been to best buy like 8 times looking at the tv's. I tell myself that I'm going to just get it then I talk myself out of it because something better might be coming out this summer. Even though I love samsung minus their crappy input lag ....

The technical specs for DVI don't allow 4k at 60hz.  Curious how that was possible.  Also, I assumed that the only way to get 60hz from a video card was via displayport until video cards come out with HDMI 2.0?

No I don't notice any input lag, however, I'm gaming on a PC at the native res (3840 × 2160). It's possible that more input lag is introduced if gaming on a console due to the process of scaling up from 1080p.

That said, I've got a PS4 but haven't tried it with this set yet, if I have time tomorrow I'll give Killzone a go and report back.

Oh, here's another pic I took, this time of Castlevania with my room pitch black:

http://i.picpar.com/QpI.jpg

I have to say, gaming at 4K on a big screen is incredible, it is awesome being able to sit like 3 feet away with everything still razor sharp. Totally justifies the purchase for me.

I was thinking, it would be pretty sweet to have two 65" or 78" HU9000, put then side by side, touching. Hook up a PC with dual outputs, run the two units as one picture, sit about 5 FT back and be submerged in pure curved bliss wink.gif

Yes 3 would be perfect since you need at least 3 for Nvidia surround.

That said, I've got a PS4 but haven't tried it with this set yet, if I have time tomorrow I'll give Killzone a go and report back.

Oh, here's another pic I took, this time of Castlevania with my room pitch black:

I have to say, gaming at 4K on a big screen is incredible, it is awesome being able to sit like 3 feet away with everything still razor sharp. Totally justifies the purchase for me.
Wow. That would be fantastic if you would test it out on Ps4 online. That's what I play CoD on. I have been thinking about building a gaming PC since there aren't a ton of games out right now for Xbone and ps4. I wouldn't even know where to begin though. I'm guessing you have a pretty sweet gaming right to play in 4k? Keep posting pics and impressions. I may be ordering a HU9000 this weekend.

I saw the 8550 yesterday at Best Buy for the first time. They had it hooked up to a Direct TV feed, and it looked great. They hooked up a Bluray for me we to demonstrate how it upscales, it looked great as well. I was all set on the Sony 4k xbr850a, but this tv has certainly made me pause a bit.

I tried the image retention test for 5 min. on a 8550. Didn't see any retention. I'll try it longer later.

Make sure you don't stare at it before switching to gray.

Is there any reason to be worried about image retention? Usually LED's don't have any issues.
