I'm sold on 4k! I don't know if I'll get the HU8550 or wait till Sony, Pan or other sets. But it'll be 4k for sure.

Edit, we only saw the clips on a 65HU8550.

That is rather strange then...

Because the 8550 is not in the Magnolia department...

It certainly was and is. They put it up late Friday night. I was there Saturday. The 55 inch version was out on the main floor. The 65 in 8550 was right next to the Sharp UQ model and F8500 (gosh that's a nice Plasma... no blacks come close)

The HU9000 was in the middle of Magnolia. Not attractive but that's just IMO.

Edit, the USB didn't work on the UQ which was a bummer.

The Magnolia was in Roseville, CA.

The 8550 is NOT a Magnolia TV...

And Magnolia specifically states that it is NOT to be put in the Magnolia section unless it is a Magnolia TV...

It has never been in the Magnolia section of any Best Buy I have ever been to...

OK well I don't know what to tell ya man. It was there. The TV is fresh out of the factory and has barely seen retailers. You act like it's last year models.

The F9000 was in there too. Why it would be in there then?

I'm sure a Magnolia can do what they want in regards to which TV they decide to display in their corner.

I just decided to wait another product cycle out and see what was next. I liked the F8000 I saw setup in Best Buy last year so I was hoping the 8550 might be my next set. I'm just not sold on the curved design of the 9000. It just bothers me looking at it. Maybe I would adjust but I'm not willing to bet $4500 on that fact. My UN55B8500 still looks pretty good to these old eyes...We'll see but I'll keep looking.

Universal Display (OLED) is engaged in the research, development and commercialization of OLED technology

http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Samsung-hits-the-pause-button-on-OLED-TVs

SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics has abandoned plans for a new facility to manufacture next-generation display panels for televisions, deterred by the inefficiency of production amid intense price competition in the TV market.

Samsung makes the OLED panels at a small-scale production facility at its Tangjeong complex. Investment has been called off for a larger facility that would have been in place by the end of the year.

The inefficiency of manufacturing the panels, which account for the bulk of TV production costs, was the major culprit. The company was hard-pressed to raise efficiency and faced price competition in the TV market.

Samsung will focus on high-quality LCD TVs for the time being. It will continue research on OLED technologies but will likely not release any new OLED sets for a while. Instead, the company is thinking about setting up a new facility to make small and midsize OLED panels for such devices as smartphones.

The development will likely slow the popularization of OLEDs as a TV technology. The OLED TV market amounted to just 4,400 units in 2013, according to U.S. research company DisplaySearch.

While the HU8550 is amazing for movies and 4k looks fantastic, I consume so much cable tv content since I watch a lot of sports. I just feel like sports are driving me nuts compared to my plasma's so may get the F8500

Anybody know how to prevent the pop-ups (e.g., your camera is on/off, you have a keyboard/mouse connected) that appear on the HU9000 when you turn it on?  I have notifications turned off in settings but didn't seem to do the trick for these pop-ups.

I had good results from the Ultra HD trailers and the Index of 4k.  I had no luck on the Ultra Video Group as well as youtube.

The Elysium trailer looked amazing!  I right clicked on the file and saved to desktop (took a little bit to download... large file) and then transfered onto a 16gb USB thumb drive.  The HU8550 recognized it right away and it.  We must have watched the Elysium trailer a dozen times all with our jaws on the ground.

I am getting judder pretty frequently no matter what settings I try. It is insane. I wonder if other 8550 owners are noticing the same? I noticed it during basketball too when I screen pans from left to right.

Does that just happen with fast action on TV - or does it also happen with fast action in movies/blu-ray, etc...?

Are you using any AMP settings? It has been well known for years that Samsungs AMP is not compatible with HD sources. Even Samsung has admitted to this.

Yes, there seem to be issues. Nothing plays. Only thing I that would play was to resume The Avengers that was partially watched.

I've talked to Amazon tech a few times about the issue. Since the tv is new they will need to investigate. Trailers play, video in my library that I've bought play fine but instant prime is a no go.

It is mostly during tv, however there are scenes during blu rays when the screen pans from left to right and it judders. For example, at the end of pacific rim there is a scene where it shows the men working on the wall cheering. That whole section judders. I tried a bedroom plasma and it did not have the issue using the same cable box. I wonder if it has to do with upscalling.

Also, when watching ESPN the text on the bottom of the screen is blurry at times and not smooth. It is mostly hockey though.

Hi, been lurking awhile, about to pull the trigger on this TV (unless the pany ax800 comes out soon).  Could you try a different HDMI input port and also a different cable if possible (I've seen strange things happen with a failing cable)...while it's not likely to be your problem it's worth a try.

BTW, I cannot find the post about this in this long thread to quote it but whoever was asking about Netflix only working for a minute and then stopping AND 4k not loading at all, I had the same problem and I fixed it by doing a factory reset.

Just FYI.

Cheers.

I see some on the HU9000 as well, in store the 8550 had noticeably more judder than the 9000 playing the Samsung Demos (one reason I leaned towards the 9000).. That said the 9000 still has some - but I haven't seen a TV other than Sonys HX850 and W900 (both 240hz panels) that showed absolutely no judder so I don't think its a defect with your TV its just the processing that can't keep up with busy scenes, I've forced myself to grow accustomed to it.

Audio: Yamaha A-S1000 Stereo Amplifier // Kef LS50 Speakers // Energy EW8 Subwoofer
Video: Samsung 65in HU9000 UHD TV // Oppo BDP-105 Blu-ray player // Apple TV (3G)
Power: Furman PST-8 AC Power Conditioner
Headphones: Bose AE2W // Klipsch Image x10

Thanks! My GF thinks I am crazy b.c she does not really notice it, but I see it every single time it happens. I definitely think it has to do with coming from a plasma. I am going to jump ship to the F8500 until OLED comes down in price. It blows my mind that at these prices judder still exist frown.gif
