Just unboxed my 65 inch. Not bad. Not bad at all.... smile.gif

Only have a couple of hours on it but pleasantly surprised to find almost no backlight bleed (none from 0 degree, very little from acute angles). The super thin bezel is uncanny. The picture just floats there.

The sound is also surprisingly good. They have done a nice job of hiding the speaker opening. There are actually two curved openings on left and right that are 2-3 times wider than the rest of the bezel. There is actually decent amount of bass which is probably the result of DSP processing.

More as I put more miles on it....

If anyone gets one and is a gamer can you please play Call of Duty or another online FPS and let us know about the input lag. Got the okay from the wife but I'm not wasting my money if it can't play Games. It may seem stupid to some of you but I spend a lot of gaming hours on the tv.

I would love to know how it is handling motion with AMP set on Clear and Custom settings of Blur 10 and Judder 0. Thanks!

Any mode other than "custom" in AMP disables all the other controls. So I can't set Blur Reduction to 10 if I select Clear for AMP.

I know you can't do both at the same time . Maybe I was not clear. What I was trying to say was can you do AMP on Clear to see how it handles motion and if you see juddering, as the F9000's clear setting is bad, and then switch to custom and set the settingd mentioned and see how it performs.

Your dog bit me. I don't know how but his head came through my screen and bit me on my arm. If that's a 3D TV, then that's how he did it. Instead of suing, I want that TV back in the box and sent to me. At once!

On another note, one of you new owners should start a separate owners thread for the HU8550 only.

Can someone explain why the 8550 doesn't have a One Connecticut box? Will this affect upgrading at all? I actually wouldn't use it really since everything is ran through a high end A/V receiver.

I'm told by an online rep that it doesn't have a one connect box but does have a port allowing the use of next year's one connect box

8550 has inputs on back. One connect box is essentially the evolution kit so if standards change or when the api changes you will be able to do that.

I see. Well I wonder if not having the one connect box would help input lag. The lag is the only thing from stopping from ordering one today. I have to wait for more reviews because of it.

Honestly. What is everyone's opinion regarding the 8 bit color space deal? What is "Purcolor" and does it make things better than only being 8-bit? I am not sure how big of an impact it is going to make, but if it is going to change drastically in the next year I don't want to buy TBH.

Thoughts on color and 8 bit, 10 bit, 12 bit? Are the new 10-12 bit panels going to be out next year and then we'll all be kicking ourselves for having 8 bit panels?

That being said, I am still on a 42" 720P CFL lit Sanyo wal mart special from about 6 years ago trying to squeeze the last little bit of time that I can tolerate looking at it. I've been wanting to make the 65" upgrade for years. I am not sure how much longer I can stand looking at this substandard picture. On one hand I just want to say screw it and buy a new panel (I think I like the curved panels personally) and on the other hand I am not so sure. Further I am on the fence between the H8000 and the HU9000. I am a bit of an AV aficionado and like having top quality. Not sure the 4k is worth the premium for $1700 on a 65" from 8 feet away though.

does anyone know what "purcolor" does on these new 4K sets?
does it increase the color Gamut?

it would also be interesting to learn about the technology behind it.
is it like the sony triluminos tvs with quantum dots?

how does Samsung Solve it?

Looks like there are bugs in this implementation. I changed channels on my Comcast STB during a movie and with AMP set to Clear has the most awful judder -- never seen anything this bad. Changing to Custom as you mentioned made no difference. Neither did the "Standard" setting.

Selecting "Smooth" got me smooth motion but with the annoying SOE. Now here is the bug: going back to other modes now gives smooth motion without SOE!

In other words, once the video processor gets confused about the cadence/3:2 pull down, changing modes does not pull it out of that until you turn on the Smooth (interpolation). This is going to make testing a big pain in the neck since you have to keep making a trip to "Smooth", three menus down, and then go back to test the other modes.

I will do more testing but so far, motion frame handling seems to be problematic.

i can't get a clear answer from Samsung has what pure color is. The best I can tell is that it's still 8bit like sony's triluminos +quantum dots colorist. It allows a broader width of the 8bit gamut. as all TV's now support 8bit color not all truly show the full 8 bit range and both the Sony and Samsung technology allows you to see more inside the 8bit range. But hey I could be wrong because there isn't much good info on either solutions

ok thanks for the info
hope for some more in depth reviews soon.

last years Sony W9 with triluminos and QD had really impressive colors that looked more natural than any other LCD LEDs.
Blue LEDS with QD was the key there to clean up the colors and get a wider gamut.
Quantum Dots did bring back the old Incandescent light bulb light from the CRT tvs.

i dont think Samsung can expand the color if they stick to the "white" traditional LEDs.
thats why i wonder what they have changed here.

if these new 4Ks from samsung can deliver those "Sony" colors im happy smile.gif

Thank you! That is EXACTLY what I wanted to know. Samsung cant get their crap straight with 4K motion. Someone may need to make a phone call to Samsung cause this is BS. Please continue to update us with your findings. It is greatly appreciated!

This is definitely discouraging me from dropping the extra $1700 on their "flagship" if they cant get it right. as much as I would like to get the superior picture it's looking more and more like just getting some top of the line 1080p is in order. With the savings from not buying 4k today I would be at least half way to a new 4k (in terms of savings via money not spent) in a few years when the technology is more mature. It seems like they have made it leaps and bounds in the first 2 generations but only now are thy on the cusp of getting the basics right. We may not see the real jaw dropping features and enhanced tech regarding 4k for another year or three. By then it will probably be worlds cheaper.

Yes, I've seen glowing reviews thus far. Are you shooting for the HU8505? I was just reading something about Sweden. I think it was about the push back against illegal immigration.
