Crazy question, is there anyway to find out the wholesale prices of these models that the best buys of the world pay?

It's strange that subtitles would come on within the black bars. Typically I'd think they'd be within the active area of the LB movie.

Besides the curve and a few inches, if i bought a one connect box, plugged it into a 8550, wouldn't it be darn similar to a 9000? What would it be lacking that the 9000 has?

Better light dimming, depth inhancer, pure color. And 1400 crm to 1100 crm. I thinks that's it.

I'm not impressed from HU9000

1. Every review not talking about image quality or color
2. only 8-bit color 4K ? i have 1080p with 12bit
3. 3D only good
4. not HDR no Full Array LED Panel
5. no 120 FPS /HZ
6. High scores regardless of inscription, a smells fishy
7. The best thing about this screen it UPSCALING
8. Yet no 4K video cards with hdmi 2.0
9. no rec 2020
10. Shops refuse to show HU9000 TV channels ( What do they have to hide )

Does not seem really high-quality
In the sense of WOW

Hi DFS,

That TV sounds great! How much do you think you would have to pay for a TV that has these items, today? You probably have more money than I do. As for me, I'm looking to improve my TV from a 70 inch Sony rear projection, so I want to get something that will last a while before I drop a chunk of change again...I want a 75 - 80 TV, so what is your idea of the perfect TV for between $6 - 7K?

So is it confirmed that the Costco version of the 65" flatscreen model talked about here is the same unit? Thanks, John

Upgrade features over the HU8550 4K Series includes: Auto Depth Enhancer (greater sense of depth), PurColor (more natural colors), a pop-up Camera, Quad Core Plus Processor, and a Curved Screen.

Costco just changed the model number and sometimes they get a custom stand.

But yes they sell the same tv.
As far as panel tech goes its all there. Hu8550.

At least one of those features (processor) is in the one connect box, not the panel. Or am i misunderstanding?

That is NOT always true, I know for fact, on the Sharp models, they strip them of a few features as well....... Not sure about the Samsung's as of yet .

It thought I read that the Costco Models have smaller and less powerful internal speakers, not that it's a show stopper but might be worth checking out if it something your are shopping for.

The 9000 comes with a quad core like the 8550, the connect box upgrades that to a quad core "+" as I understand it. The whole thing between the 8550 and 9000 is bass akwards. I don't get why Samsung would make this so difficult. You make a flat TV you call it something and then you make the same TV and curve it and call it something else. Wouldn't it have been easier to just make one curved and one flat and the leave the internals all the same?

If Vizio comes out with the Ref series before my 60 day return window is up, I might be switching even though my 8550 is pretty spectacular now that I have it dialed in...Depends on what the cost/feature/benefit is like but I am certain Vizio comparable sizes will be far less than the Samsung's.

Hi,
I'm looking for a good deal on the UN55HU8550 and I found several retailers offering them for ~1800 (vs. 2300 at Amazon/BestBuy) and I'm now wondering whether this is too good to be true? The deals are at BuySquad, BigBoxSuperstore and EastCoastTVs.

I previously bought a cheap ES8000 in the UK and ended up with a Romanian model because I got a "good deal". So I figured it's best to check with the experts. Any advice is appreciated!

kblb, Those retailers are not well respected by most of their customers. Some are happy. It's best to call Cleveland Plasma one of the forum sponsors or Value Electronics, everyone is happy with both of these well respected dealers.

I always suggest checking with the BBB and the manufacturer's website to confirm if they are authorized dealers before placing the order.

Thanks, but their prices are ~500$ more expensive, which is quite significant. That's pretty much 30% more. I've already made up my mind about the TV and won't be returning it / don't need any service apart from having it delivered in working condition.

I'm just wondering whether they are known for selling poor quality TVs, or grey imports, etc.

Samsung wants to push the curve, plain and simple. Dumb move imo, since the curve is such a matter of personal taste, you should give consumers a choice that won't sacrifice features or PQ.

I bought my 60HU8550 form Pauls TV. They were authorized and willing to haggle. I paid $2,550 delivered when Best Buy wanted $2,999 before tax or delivery. Stay away from East Coast TV, they will most definitely not actually sell you the TV for what they originally say they will. If you don't agree to several up-charges your TV will suddenly be out of stock.

Do you have a list of calibration settings? I love my 8550, but I'd like to try to get it "dialed in".

I think you will find as I did that the savings to buy from places like East Coast amounts to less than $100 after you consider the fees they charge to get the TV to you. Delivery, insurance and the risk of warranty issues were not work the hassle that comes with the minimal savings. Even Pauls TV which may be better than these other heavy discounters has some red flags about it.

I ultimately got mine from Crutchfield, no tax, free delivery a 60 day return policy and they authorized. Onecall is another very reputable site and they currently have the 55: priced at $2297 as does crutchfield. Heck you can order the TV directly from Samsung for 2299 now too.

Just found the official list of Samsung authorized dealers. After clicking on the link select the "In store resellers" on the right side tab. The list is alphabetical by store name.

Call CP and VE they will discount over the phone. Authorized dealers are not permitted to advertise discounts below the UPP established prices.

CP isn't an authorized dealer are they? They have a terrific reputation, but strictly speaking they are not an authorized dealer.

That wouldn't be a show stopper for me, considering the savings with Costco's return and ext. warranty policies.

Went there, they didn't have the 65"er in stock, but did have the 60 and 55 set up. Don't know, the motion artifact thing just jumped right out and bugged me, (I have a plasma and a RPTV at home for main TVs).

Is the curved version, with the better processor, better with this issue? We also checked out both at the local best buy, I like the curved as much as the flat, even with the extra cost.

I'm curious why you would care about the speakers? Your going to purchase a 65 inch UHD for like 3k and you don't' have a HTR for it?
