As does the UN65HU9000

Take that for what it is. No clue if it is accurate."

Update: Links Fixed. Also this is an assumption that these are replacement panels so take it for what it is. There is also a part listed for the UN55HU8550 that has 8-bit in the description but it is almost half the price.

http://www.samsungparts.com/Products...UN55HU8550FXZA

Your links don't seem to be working. But I too see what you are saying. Just maybe Samsung was ahead of the game and is waiting for the spec to be released before they add it to EVO box. Looks like a good possibility. Try this Link: http://www.samsungparts.com/Products...el=UN65HU9000F

Yep gotcha. Links fixed.

Cool Beans.

Companies are constantly improving their products. Could it be that the panels manufactured after a certain date are indeed 10-bit? This seems to be substantiated by the current parts listing. Curious when the production change may have been implemented.

My thoughts exactly. Or maybe the Costco version (HU8500) is only 8-bit? The parts list for both are identical. Keep in mind I only looked up the 55" TH01 8550 which is the model I own. I haven't gone through the other sizes. I also only looked up the 65" TS01 HU9000.

I'm going to assume the newly released 8700 is 10-bit. Although I would like that confirmed before ordering.

Live chat with a robot named Aaron over at Samsung technical support verifies the new HU8700 has a 10-bit panel. He says it will display 10-bit color, "absolutely". I guess I will order one then.Probably from Samsung direct as they are offering free shipping.

I don't think there is any cause for concern guys. Your sets are golden. I think the pre-production sets were 8-bit and probably those being reviewed at CES but not your actual production models.

I wonder if that 10-bit part under the 8550 is actually the 8700 screen? I would be curious to see what Aaron would say I'd you asked if it was a 16-bit panel? Lol

Look up the 8700 please. Want to see if Aaron was blowing smoke up my rear. I wonder if the curved panels are indeed 10-bit and the flat ones are 8? Is the 8700 panel the same part# as the 9000?

Does't the HU9000 have Cinema Black? If so, what could be different?
Also, since the specs regarding UHD Dimming and Precision Black Dimming are the same why would the Cinema Black be missing on HU8550?

That's the question of the day. The UN55HU8550 has both an 8-bit and a 10-bit listed, different names for the parts.

That was my thought as well on the curved vs flat. The 8700 isn't listed on the site yet but like I said it may be under the 8550 since it is just the curved version.

Case in point.
http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-BN95-01370A.aspx?model=UN65HU8550FXZA
This could be for the curved 8700. It would explain the cost.

Can we access the service manual online? Including any supplements?

You could also ask Sammy tech support as to why they are listing the two part numbers. I'm assuming the 8-bit is simply older stock. And if that's the case, Lord knows what's in your sets.

I have been trying to hunt one down for free but they sell them on there. I really just want a parts diagram but no luck so far.

One of our techie gurus here should be able to do that. But I'm wondering that since Samsung is really promoting "the curve" this year, it stands to reason that that is where they would put their better technology.

Folks:

Planning my install here - I search and searched but cannot find full HxW dimensions of the 85" 8550 including locations of mounting holes. Also looking for complete list/diagram of connections.

Tried Sammy's website and got a manual with no diagrams (odd) and maybe I missed it, but didn't see any posts here. Any help?

The only way I know of doing it is opening it up which voids the warranty not to mention all the things I could screw up along the way.

I don't know that I would trust that info. How can a curved panel be the same as a flat panel?

Guys from my research it really looks like this TV came with a 8 bit screen and a 10 bit screen. I am exchanging my tv for dead pixels in the next day or two so hopefully the new one I get has a 10bit panel but how can you tell. We should all call samsung and demand to get our panels changed from 8bit to 10bit..

I think it is an LCD without the backlight or PCB or any guts. Why that says 8-bit and the other says 10-bit is a mystery I am not likely to crack. I found the same thing on the UN65F9000 (an 8-bit and 10-bit part) just now by looking at entire parts so I am more confused now than ever. I think I am just going to stop worrying about it and enjoy my awesome setups. Hell I am color blind anyway, I won't even see the difference in color
