There's a video review by an Amazon customer apparently showing terrible backlighting on the lb7200 model.

I am definitely going to hold off on buying the 55lb7200 until this issue is resolved. It seems to me that the problem is in the software/processing that could likely be solved by a firmware update if LG gets enough pressure by people posting complaints in the right places. These forums are incredibly helpful to consumers but user reviews on Amazon, Best Buy and Costco are what will get LG's attention. No doubt this set is worth the money if the bugs can be worked out.

I was reading about my problem with the auto dimming and it is called global dimming. There is no way to turn this off. This is a stupid feature and again I was reading and it has been a problem in the last 2 years and everybody hates it.

When playing PS3 or PS4 game and you have a dark scene you will not be able to see anything. LG dropped the ball on this. I am very disappointed because everybody complains about it but LG does not do anything about it. They will not fix it.

You're right, I just googled "global dimming" and here's a whole thread about LG's "global dimming": http://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-tv%C2%92s-%C2%96-global-dimming-at-scene-changes.1415880/

I use a Wii for Netflix with the 47LN5400, but it is only showing black and white. Is there a setting I need to change? It uses a component connection.

Never mind. DD played around with the cables and it is now working. Maybe I'll get a Roku anyway.

Look at my video on page 12. It has to be a very dark scene ....

I just scene it happen on your video, when you select the chapter the screen goes black with the play icon it is really dim then when the chapter comes up it gets bright.

It kicks it out of the true PC mode when you play a movie because PC mode only does 60Hz

PC mode disables all the processing like the contrast, super resolution stuff like that. Once a difference Hz is detected it kicks it out of PC mode.

Watch right after you start the movie when the screen goes dark it will shut the screen off then when the play icon comes up it will get really dim and when something comes on the screen the play icon will get really bright.

Just check out my video. You can really see it. You have to have a very dark scene like that.

I've decided to wait and see what the webos 4k tvs look like. I saw the 7100 and 6300 in stores and can't help but wonder if  I should save a bit more and get a 4k model. I'm not a videophile but the LG 9650 and Sony X850a look freaking amazing (assuming they upscale HD well and can play games without input lag). If the cheapest LG 4k tv is comparable to those, I think I'd be good. :)

Only 2014 models I've heard of so far are the UB9700, UB9500 and UB8700.

Did you see my video, it has to be like mine, when there is hardly anything on the screen. Star Trek TNG opening is a great example of this. It is very annoying. Like I said, I did see it happen on your one video. When the screen is black then the play icon comes up it gets really dim then when something big comes on the screen it gets bright.

Your video right here at 0:42 to 0:44 when you select the chapter.

I'm not seeing it man. To me it looks like a combo of a menu transition and the camera focus.

If it's not showing up in gravity when the sun shines on them, it's not happening.

Did you see my video. It is play as day. It almost has to be very dark.

I am telling you PC mode only works on 60Hz once it goes to 24Hz it kicks it out of PC mode. Google it.

Its not the menu and camera focus, That is how it looks on mine.

It has to be really dark like my video when there is hardly anything on the screen. My video you see the stars then Jupiter and Saturn come on gets really bright then when it goes back to the stars they get really dim then when Enterprise gets closer and closer it gets really bright.

so i just update my 47LB6500 and the LG Store is now open!!

Some changes that I have noticed so far

·        - LG Store is now open!

·       -  Small icons were added to the launcher bar when you scroll to the right (three little dashes) and to the left (icon of a house/home)

·       -  Once in the LG Store, there is a ‘Premium’ section that has many of the premium apps that the LG Smart platform uses, available for download, including the premium apps that are already pre-installed

o   Vudu (pre-installed)

o   Netflix (pre-installed)

o   Hulu (pre-installed)

o   Youtube (pre-intsalled)

o   MGO

o   Amazon(pre-installed)

o   Redbox

o   Rhapsody

o   MLB.TV

o   Ustream

o   CinemaNow

o   vTuner

o   Google Maps

o   Viewster

o   Skype (pre-installed)

·         - Note – the Pre-installed Premium apps remain in the beginning of the launcher bar, while the additional premium apps, when installed, show up in the end of the launcher bar after you scroll right, much like if it were a normal application.

·      -   Premium apps that are not present in WebOS

o   Spotify

o   Twitter

o   Facebook

·     -    Picasa is a non-premium app and can be found in the LG Store

Anyways, after reviewing the specs for the three series a bit further I'd say the LB6100 is a hybrid of the LB5800 and LB6000 as it shares certain specs and/or feature with both series. The one thing I find confusing with LG this year is if their TV's are all direct-lit with or without local dimming or if some are still edge-lit. Last year for example the 60" LA7400 was direct-lit w/ local dimming while all the other sizes in both the LA7400 & LA8600 were edge-lit w/ local dimming. No where does LG say edge LED this year(at least for larger models) so I think they're all direct-lit but who knows.

The owner's manual for the 5800 series and the 6100 series is the same. Seems to me that LG is classified the 6100 as a 5800-based derivative model.

Probably is, I just bought a JVC EM55FT at Sam's Club for $630 which I'm perfectly happy with...so I can't say I'm paying much attention to these new LG's anymore.

Man that is a great picture! Are the black levels that impressive in person?
Is this global dimming phenomenon something like ABL (auto brightness limiter) or is this the tru black local dimming causing an issue?

The camera makes them appear a little darker, but they are pretty impressive if you are in PC mode.

Here's a video of the input set to Bluray mode. Global dimming is terrible.

Hopefully LG can firmware update this. It feels like ECO mode on Samsung that will dim that low on darker content.
