Gah, so surprised to hear this about their IPS panel. I had the LA6200 and the viewing angles were perfect. :(

The 47" LB6100 and the 50" LB6100 are on Costco's website, the 55" has yet to be available on their site as far as I've seen.

Seems as though there has been some confusion son model numbers and what not.

LB6100 seems to be a Costco only model. the Equivalent non-costco model will most likely be the LB5800.

the LB6000 is not smart, nor does it have a magic remote. its a dumb TV with a decent panel. Normally to get a halfway decent panel you would need to purchase a mid-high end TV which usually came with 3D/Smart even if you did not want it. looks like the LB6000 is the answer to that.

the Home screen with each of the 4? cards...the Premium Menu so we can see all the Premium apps...each of the settings menus (Picture, Audio, Options, Etc..) and if you could slowly go into each of the sub-options within the settings menu...do a Search on the TV so we can see what the search screen looks like...go into On Now and into Smart Share...

i hope thats not too much but thanks anyways!!!

The LB6100 is a warehouse model for Costco, Sam's Club, and BJ's wholesale....the equivalent model for retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart etc. will be most likely be the LB6000 and not the LB5800 as there's rarely that large of a model number difference between the general retailer version and the warehouse version. The only real differences between the two series is that the LB6100 has smart TV and 3 HDMI's verses 2 on the LB6000.

LB6100 - LG Smart TV platform and 3 HDMI ports, 120Hz

LB5800 - LG Smart TV platform and 3 HDMI ports, 60Hz

LB6000 - Non Smart and 2 HDMI ports, 120Hz

i think its fair to say that the LB5800 is the equivalent to the LB6100. the only difference is the Panel.

the LB6000 is essentially a good panel with out any of the other bells and whistles that the LB6100 and LB5800 add. LG has broken from the norm this year...Overall less model numbers from last year, no real update to the LG Smart Platform except a redesigned home screen, Models from 2013 that will continue to be produced for 2014 (LN5400/5300)...maybe they put all their R&D $$ into WebOS and/or OLED/UHD...

i understand that usually with LG models sold in Costco vs the outside model are usually very similar but this is not the case with the LB6100/6000/5800...

Well it's not just LG generally the model number is very similar regardless of the manufacturer. Anyways, after reviewing the specs for the three series a bit further I'd say the LB6100 is a hybrid of the LB5800 and LB6000 as it shares certain specs and/or feature with both series. The one thing I find confusing with LG this year is if their TV's are all direct-lit with or without local dimming or if some are still edge-lit. Last year for example the 60" LA7400 was direct-lit w/ local dimming while all the other sizes in both the LA7400 & LA8600 were edge-lit w/ local dimming. No where does LG say edge LED this year(at least for larger models) so I think they're all direct-lit but who knows.

FYI....the tutorial videos on the LB6100 page are for the 2013 LG Smart TV Platform. although the platform in 2014 is almost identical except for a redesigned home screen and that each window now has a black transparent background....be forwarned...

i would much prefer a youtube video from a person that actually owns the TV...

Thanks, I'm trying to gauge what the IPS panel would look like compared to my current TV Picture.
Samsung DLP HL-S6188W Professionally calibrated by ISF. Still has a great picture.

Contrast Ratio: Full On/Off - 5142 : 1 ANSI - 561 : 1

Are the numbers given in the quotes above Manufacturer specs or are they measured readings full on/off or ANSI?

If the LG 65LB7100 panel performs better than that then I'm good with it.

Thanks
Carl

Most likely it's a direct-lit set as LG's saying "LED backlighting"(which is similar to FALD but with fewer LED's behind the screen) and not mentioning "edge-lit" anywhere on these new 2014 sets. However deciphering LG's TV terms isn't always easy and straight forward task.

Well without knowing if the 65" and 70" for sure have IPS panels(which would be a first), I'd say you should expect a 50% increase in contrast if not slightly more compared to your DLP.

Some last interesting observations as I am about done tweaking and learning bout my 6100.......Compared the sound on some big blockbuster type films with my JVC sound bar ......the TV sound was terrific to my surprise, especially for bedroom or your second TV room. Here in NY looks like its a AMC channel thing with some juddering......slight judder on HARTS WAR this afternoon followed by NONE on HOLLOW MAN....both films made around the same time by a few years......to get rid of the judder now i switch to "Game" mode and its gone. Picture is great. Wonder why AMC channel seems susceptible to this. Watched other films from late 90's early 2000's on other channels with no judder. SCARFACE same thing-then played it on my dvd and no judder.....streamed thru media player and no judder-just on AMC. Any ideas why this is? As an earlier request from the thread i will try and at least take a couple of pix of what the smart screen and app screen. as for the settings they really are extensive for both picture and sound-thats a little difficult. Once again TURN OFF all motion flow stuff and there no blur or judder-except for the occasional AMC broadcast-strange.

i believe that they already have a model number but since the release isnt confirmed the model number could change...i think it might be the 65EC9700..

as far as OLED i believe LG is still manufacturing the 2013 models 55EA8800 and 55EA9800, and as far as this year there will be 55EC9300 4K OLED (no release date), 65EC9700 (no release date), 77EC9800 (4K)(no release date)...i would imagine that some (except the 2013 models) may not even be released as that happens almost every year..

I just came across a review for a 65LB7200 1080P 3D model.
http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lg-lcd-tv/lg-65lb7200.html

I was aware of a 65LB7100 and a 55LB7200 on the ABT site.
http://www.abt.com/resources/pages/search.php?keywords=65lb7100
http://www.abt.com/resources/pages/search.php?keywords=55lb7200

When I compared both the 55-7200 and the 65-7100 on ABT the only difference I noticed other than screen size is the 7200 had 2.1 speaker config vs 2.0 on the 7100. Is there an up to date list of the new 1080p models from LG. Can't find anything on their web site. I haven't seen the 65LB7200 anywhere else but at the LCDTV buying guide site. Any thoughts or info is appreciated.

Thanks
Carl
