hey so i was trying to find the contrast ratio of my LB6500 and i came accross two interesting facts...

1) the contrast ratios that TV manufactures always listed were essentially lies. there is no agreed upon standard to measure CR and so each manufacturer woudl develope testing techniques and values that would inflate the CR number to crazy high numbers...

2) LG no longer publishes CR for their new TV's i contacted LG and they told me that now with the quality of LCD panels are soo good that the CR difference from one TV to the next is so small that it is no longer necessary to publish contrast ratios.

wtf..

The "dynamic" contrast ratios(such as 1,000,000:1 or 4,000,000:1 etc.)that manufacturers advertise are total PR department BS... always have been. However since LG uses their own IPS panels for almost all of their TV's(65"+ being questionable) the "static" or "typical" contrast ratio for their panels are 1200:1-1600:1, now this doesn't include help from local dimming or other enhancements that LG can implement...just the LCD panel itself.

Found this review for the 55LB7200. Only difference I can see from what I've read between the 7100 and the 7200 is the 7200 has a built in subwoofer.

http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lg-lcd-tv/lg-55lb7200.html

http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lg-lcd-tv/lg-lb7200-picture-settings.html

The picture of the TV shown in this link looks to be a Samsung. Probably just a stock picture they use for the calibration page.

the LB7200 will have the Cinema Screen design that you saw in 2012 and 2013 (where it has no bezel) ans has a built in Subwoofer.

the LB7100 will have a bezel around the screen and the 70" version will not use an IPS panel.

the Stand feet will also be slightly different finishes..

Those of you with the LB6300, do you know whether it uses full array or edge lit backlighting? Not sure of the best way to tell.

Do you know by chance if the 7100 models have edge lit local dimming or full array local dimming (FALD). I'm close to pulling the trigger on either the 65LB7100 from LG or the Sony kdl 65s990a. I watch in mostly dim to dark room and the IPS panels have me a little leery of grayish blacks in a dark environment.

Thanks
Carl

If LG states "LED backlighting" for a set that's their term for a direct-lit TV(which is similar to FALD but with fewer LED's behind the screen) and all the LB7100's have local-dimming. Since you're coming from a DLP I wouldn't worry too much about black level issues, however personally I'd go with the Sony cause that's just a kick ass TV!

i think its going to be a Direct LED. im not seeing that many of their TV's if any, use FALD. i would imagine that many companies are not putting much R&D and $$ into FALD, maybe hoping that OLED prices come down fast.

Now I dont know which way to go. I have a 47" and I am not sure if the 55" will feel like a big difference. I really want a 60" tongue.gif

Amazon have the 55LB7200 for $1197. eek.gif

Thanks for the video! The WebOS multitasking seems really smooth. Viewing angles seem good from the video as well. Wish we had a Frys nearby.

I made the jump from 47" to 55" and it was quite noticeable. It wasn't like 60"-70" noticeable, but noticeable.

Well I pulled the trigger on this.

Could not pass up a deal on this. I also got Amazon price match the other seller that was on there yesterday. I got it for $1166.95 + pa tax.

Now I have to wait 10 days to get it.

Anybody have any good idea about a TV stand? I am trying to find something big enough but not too big. I was thing about Z-Line with the glass shelf's and the tv mount,

which tv did you end up buying?

if money is no object BDI stands are probably the nicest, though most are around $1k each - http://www.bdiusa.com/theater/index.shtml - my local best buy carries them in the magnolia section

wayfair.com has a bunch as well, like this one: http://www.wayfair.com/dCOR-design-Holland-59-TV-Stand-ID-6601-XSN1072.html

I went with the 55LB7200, as far as a TV stand goes, I was thinking of something cheap. I was looking at Z-Line glass with the TV mount that is at Walmart for $200.

Would love to know how long the coupon lasts too! Here's the signup for their rewards program: http://www.hhgregg.com/service/VIP

I don't want to sign up just yet if I have to use the coupon really quick.
