Nice equipment. Your install seems high. It looks like you have it angled forward/down a bit? I would think having it installed so high you would be watching off angle and it would throw off the color.

the big boy TVs have made to BigD...
Starpower in addison - 79-900b and the 85-950b. plus 78-u9000 and LGs 79..
BB park lane - 79-900b
BB plano - 79-900b and 85-8550

79-990b - Disappointed in the blacks. at starpower, i stood the same distance between 79 and 65-900b. both had pics with black bars and i could see a difference in the blacks. at plano bb, had the 79 with a 950 and 850. when all 3 went to black screen, the 79 looked like the 850. 950, of course, why blacker..

I was considering 79x900b, but after seeing its poor blacks and light bleed on BB display, I started thinking maybe I should pay more and get the 85hu8550 instead. You are saying that one also has light bleed/bad blacks?

All three Sony had light bleed. With light bleed I mean that the black bars is changing the black due to the picture of the Movie. Goes to more grey and like a light in the back. Hope you understand what I mean.

And as I said in the Samsung Thread, my Money was parked for the Sony......but now I ordered the 85 Samsung. I have to say that as a sony fan..........and now I go with my very First Samsung in my live.

The 85 black level is visible darker as the 79er Sony. I would say, it is as dark as the 65 inch sony 900 b, the 79 Sony is dark grey, not black.

Hi to everyone
I have 55900b is second time by replaced of same issue with vertical lines. How do I getthem
  • Select any HDMI INPUT
  • Select Scene to GAME or GRAPHICS
  • Lunch Netflix
  • Press HOME button
After I press HOME button I get vertical lines I wonder isonly 55 affected or all B series have same problems. If you have PS3 or PS4 youdon't have to turn on or off no difference. Only GAME and GRAPHICS is affectedand Netflix no other Apps give me vertical lines. I have attached some pictures.

If you do not see it when content is actually playing, why replace it?

So after my OCD issues, always finding a flaw on my 55X900A(5th panel) Sony is sending me a 55X900B. Any issues to look out for? Glad I didn't pick up the X10 player! So stoked!!!

+1 Carlos_E knows, @ Mike Hodge , significant color shift + resultant poor blacks /contrast can sure result in a hurry with an off angle install despite what the wifey likes or not ,sometimes you have to get a little hard with them now and then if they don't get on board know what I mean ?

Looks like a bad main board or firmware corruption (bad board can do that to ) * (if only on 2 inputs ) maybe HDMI chips or something else on the board , something is defective , damaged or drifting out of tolerance and will almost certainly get worse in time that is not normal or acceptable . Could be a batch problem with a lot of sets Sony is not aware of yet ,keep sending it back until you get a good one or insist they fix it (if they can ) ,if not get something else maybe an 850B
or another brand ,picture should be fine on one of those .Probably just main board on your set though .

Ok so for the 65 v 79 argument we have:

65:
  • better black levels
  • active 3D

79:
  • black level not as good
  • passive 3D, but has issues – unless the vertical angle is perfect

So currently, I'm even considering the 65X850B. As it's still got the passive 3D, and also has the benefit of dropping the side speakers (and much cheaper).

However, I really want the 79X900B, just the talk on black levels and 3D is really putting me off.

Also, I actually saw the 65X900B, 55X900B and 65X850B in a store on Saturday. All looked great. The only issue was I couldn't see black bars, as the content was fully taking up the screen (4k World Cup footage). How are the black levels on the X850B?

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply...

Yes there is that change in black bar intensity going together with footage content, but I can live with that.
On my panel it's a lot worse and beyond that, almost the whole left side/edge of the screen has lightbleeding right into the picture a few inches.
Even in color it's present...if put on a scale it's about 20/25% from dark to light, anything above that looks fine and as it should be.

I managed to dial it out in settings but had to kill almost all backlight, getting a dull screen nearly unwatchable..not acceptable in any way.
So..I have a serious problem,I have a week from now on to decide to keep the screen or not.
I must not think about the trouble to exchange the panel, and I would'nt know with what other TV..samsung?
Getting pretty desperate here..don't know what to do..but for the money I paid for it..I have to do something obviously.
Something fast.

You should go to another 79 Sony....or to the 85 Samsung.

Normally when you get lines like that, the screen is cracked, however I do not see the crack. Time to call Sony........probably a manufacturers defect of some kind.

That is funny. But in fairness their principle argument, about passive 3D having half the resolution, isn't applicable to the 4K passive sets. This was from 2011 when they were comparing it to 1080P passive sets.
