According to tech support this is a known issue. They had me do a hard reset and told me that solved it 99% of the time. I find that a little hard to believe, but we'll see.

You know, you can do a manual update. My 900b was giving me "no new update is available" when there was on the Sony website. So I downloaded the update unzipped to USB drive (fat32), plugged USB drive in port on TV while off, then turned on. That's all it took.

General question. When I play very dark scenes or test color blocks on the 900B I can always see slight edge light bleed. I thought this was normal with edge lit TVs.

Last night on the few 4K videos I watched, I did not see edge light bleed on the 930C. Granted, I have not tried full color test blocks. But now it has me wondering if I have a defective 900B since I didn't notice edge light bleed on the 930C. I'm wondering if I should request a warranty replacement for the 900B. If I can get less edge light bleed.

I have edge light bleed as well. Not all the time. Some dark scenes when watching woman in black on amazon prime in the TV app there was no light bleed at all! I have a 3 year old 55 inch Samsung 8000 series TV the super thin one and its edge light bleed is barely noticeable.

I posted the same thing a few months ago, several times. Seemed that nobody cared, but it's been an issue on both my 900B sets (replaced it once).

Usually on the sides of the screen. It's not bad that it destroys the viewing pleasure, but it can sometimes be annoying.
When playing with brightness and contrast settings, you can get it down to very accceptable levels.

If that is the case then I'll keep what I have. I'll most likely replace the 900B next year so it's not worth the hassle of calling a warranty replacement if I may get another with the same amount of edge light bleed.

I got a replacement for it (and they gave me a 950b). They argued at first but I insisted.

Do you think the 55X900B is the best 55" TV in terms of picture quality compared to the newer sets like the 55X850C and 55X900C?
The biggest difference is the local dimming and I'm coming from a 55HX929. Your comments will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks, new 79x900b and loving it.

Well after reading all 205 pages of this thread and a few others as well I finally pulled the trigger on the 79" set I had my eye on for months.
Thanks to all posters, learned a heck of a lot, and learned some things i would have rather not have .
First set delivered cracked, that had a build date of Aug 14', the second set was pristine and had a build date of May 15'. Got a good deal on the price and great deal on the warranty from BNH. The new sets helped that negotiation a lot.
Haven't had it but 1 day but man I am loving it. Hardly changed much in the settings so far but the picture is crazy good. Time Warner cable looks great and 4k media is ridiculous. This weekend will be more slight adjustments and 3d viewing.
Thanks to also Carlos_E. When he wasn't giving the right answers he was asking the right questions.

Very little edge bleeding in very dark scenes but doesn't bother me at all. Everything else is great.
Coming from a Sony XBR-65HX950. Moved that into the bedroom.
Also bought the Sony FMP-X10. Battle for LA is bananas...

Reading through the 940c threads. Interesting but loving my set too much right now.
Later gators!!

I just looked at this at the store next to a 940c. On 4k feeds they both looked amazing. I didn't notice much difference. Very bright room with sunlight coming in some windows. That's how my house will be too. On a baseball game over directv they didn't look so amazing.

The 930c 65" looked best from 12' for the regular directv feed.

Any of you primarily TV and sports viewers with this set? Mom concerned 720p programming won't look as good and am now thinking of going smaller from 12'.

Thanks.

Carlos_E,

Today I saw it at Video and Audio Center in Santa Monica, CA, they had the 940c, 930c, 900b all near each other. Most of the new curved Samsungs too.

I saw a 900b by itself across the room from an 850c last week at the Best Buy/Magnolia in Burbank but it was harder to compare sets there. the 900B looked sweet.

My concern is 95% of our viewing is regular tv shows and some sports. If the 930c were even 70" I'd be all over it. . .not sure I want to step up to $8k for the 940c.

I watch a lot of cable and sports. Watched some tennis and soccer already and I do need to tweak a bit but the pic is amazing. Motion set to clear.

Thanks for your reply. I realize feeds stink at these stores, just don't want to regret going up to a 79.

Just purchased this tv here in NZ.

Does anyone have any suggest picture settings that they're happy with?

Coming from a Panasonic ST50 plasma I am really nervous about the edge bleed.

There will be edge bleed. Nothing one can do about it.

True but I have seen and read about a broad spectrum from really noticeable to hardly noticeable.
I have to consider myself lucky that I have minimal bleed on my 79x900b.

As far as settings, after trying many settings from the internet on my old set I realized it really is wholly dependent on the users preferences, environment and the source of the video. On my new set again I was lucky that the out of the box settings worked great with very minor adjustments.

I do have to say I am a 3D movie watcher and the passive 3D was one of the pros for me on this set. I watched Edge of Tomorrow on HBO demand (Time Warner Cable) and the cross talk was crazy. After some more reading about this I learned films shot in native 3D were so much better on sets like this. I tried The Hobbit from the same source, HBO, and it was great with hardly any cross talk at all. Jupiter Ascending Blu-ray disc looked great with the upscaling on this set but the 3D not so much. Played on my Oppo 103. Meanwhile the Hobbit disc again was so much better.
You could find settings on the internet to start you off but I before you go nuts try the out of the box with different sources and see how that goes.

Good Luck.

Yep, I expected edge bleed but nothing remotely close to what I have. In darkened scenes one half of the screen is really dark and the other bright as anything. In fact in many scenes I can actually see the light shining from the side

I would exchange it or get a warranty replacement. It should not be that bad for sure.

And no 4K TV – not even a curved one – has delivered a sense of UHD image depth as successfully and engagingly as the SONY 75X940C:

Cool 3D On my XBR79X900b

After more exhaustive testing I have come to the conclusion that vertical access is crucial to a successful 3D experience here. Testing with disc and cable sources I have learned that you really need to be midlevel to avoid cross talk. Although natively shot 3D movies have less cross talk, if your eye level is close to the mid point of the screen the picture is fantastic. Even from a side angle. Motion blur has not been an issue here which is great. I have the installers coming to lower the wall mount.

Hi all,

I just bought 65x900b that is last closed box in store.
Edge light bleed is annoying but green edge bleed/smearing etc is more problem for me.
Do you have green edge light bleed problem?

P.s.I don't know what is the exact name of edge green light problem.???

It is not easy to show on picture because of sunlight but it is more green edge than photo.

This really helped the 3d, really almost no cross talk and the picture is fantastic!
