Let me say that the 900B is WAYYYY better than the 850A ever was, for the following reasons...
1) 900B plays just about any 4k video on a USB stick that I can throw at it (850A wouldn't play any)
2) Brightness and contrast and colour fidelity... no comparison ... the 900B a huge improvement.
and of course 3) Netflix and YouTube in 4k

A few shots attached (with 4k .mp4 file playing)
Great deal, I hope you enjoy your new TV. I just figured out how simple it is it use 4K downloader to download YouTube 4k videos to USB thumb drive, very cool. Does anyone know any other places to dow!load 4K material?

That's where I got the 4k sample file that's playing in my screen shots.

WOW! Dude... YOU really know how to take pics! These are amazing! Also if you right click on any of his pics and let it go into another window, you can get the pic larger in full view instead of a smaller version on the AVS site.

Was your original purchase price really high for the 850a?

Pretty high. I bought it last November for about $4400 (Canada).
Still well less than the $5500 the 900B currently sells for here at Bestbuy and Futureshop.

That is awesome. What did you say to get an actual exchange versus just getting a replacement?

Just tried out the 3d on the 65X900B to compare it to my old 65x850A.
Streamed some 3d .mp4 files on my Apple TV and with the new 900B there's one minor negative and a couple of positives.

Negative: on some dark scenes there's a slight, but noticeable cross over. Most scenes, especially bright ones, there's no visible crossover. Compared to the 850A, I never noticed crossover on that TV

Positive: On the 900B, the picture is a lot brighter, making watching 3d with 'sun glasses on' a much better experience than I have ever seen on any 3d TV. I'm tempted to think that the occasional crossover in dim scenes are the trade off with a very bright screen?

Overall, the 900B 3d experience, although not perfect, I think is still exceptional. Bright, contrasty, great colour and great depth perception.

Nothing at all.
To say the least, I was very pleasantly surprised when they sent me an email saying that they were giving me a 900B in exchange for an 850A.

Perhaps I was lucky?

I bought a display model x900a in canada for 3700 and sony was going to send me the x900b as a replacement, but I ended up paying the extra 2500 for the 950. I'm surprised they did not give you the 850b, good deal for you.

They did the same for me but I had the 55 inch. I believe it's because the 850a is discontinued in Canada and the 850B is a considerable step down in terms of specs.

Hey guys,

I picked up the 65 inch XBR 900B about a week ago. Was deciding if I should keep my Def Tech surround system, it is not a monster room, mostly used for sports TV watching. I have a PJ in a home theater room for movies. This set gets the most use. My receiver, an older Marantz SR18 has no HDMI switching on it, just use it for sound. wanted to keep it simple. Ran the optical out on the Sony to one of the optical in on my Marantz.

Sub goes into sub on Marantz. It shoes sub on the display on the Marantz but can't get it to work. Tried blurays, HBO etc. Nothing. It was working when I pulled it out with my old TV, had it wired different. Came out of cable box and blueray player with digital cables to Marantz. Checked menu on the Sony, set audio to subwoofer, can't find anything else. Wanted to spend some time today and see if I can get it pumping.

Not sure which way to look. Thanks!!!

Brian

Loving this tv, but have realized there is extremely slight flashlighting coming from the the top of the screen to the left, the way its flashlighting makes me think the screws there are to tight, has anyone had this on their tv? Just wondering if the screws will loosen and it will go away eventually, its not a big deal because i can only see it about a foot away from the tv, but its bothering me because its there

I don't think flashing will just go away. If you can see the screws and want to see if that helps, go for it. If not, I would not attempt to open anything b.c it would void any warranty.

Thanks Farminfool. Here are a few tips for better AX100 shooting:

* For general outdoor use, use an exposure bias of approximately - .5 (minus .5). The AX100, as most cameras tend to do, will often over-expose outdoors. Setting it to -.5 will help eliminate that tendency.
* Set your front dial to 'exposure' so that you can easily change exposure when necessary
* Use your zebra stripes to make you aware of parts of the picture that may wind up over-exposed. If those are important to the scene, then reduce exposure until the zebras are largely gone.
* Use a 1/60th second shutter speed for most work.
* Use your neutral density filters (ND) when shooting. You should use the manual mode for this camera as 'auto' will not begin to maximize the camera's performance.

Those should get you started.

Sorry guys for the temporary diversion, but at least we are talking about 4K.

Thanks Ken I will give that a try. To bring it full circle those settings will look great on the sony xbr 79 I'll be watching soon . Everyone enjoy your 4th weekend.

Maybe you can tell me why the 850b is a considerable step down from the 850a in terms of specs. Spec wise they should basically be the same. I'm thinking of buying the 55 inch 850b.

850b is frame dimming and 850a is local dimming.

They are both edge lit. The 850a has local dimming as well, the 850b does not.

The noticeable difference will be flash lighting, which I think almost all 850b owners have experienced in dark room viewing.

Naw, my 850a had flashlighting as well, in fact every LED I've ever owned had it to some extent.

The 850B also has a much lower motion rating then the A, 240 vs 960.

Speaking of which, I've noticed Sony has a 830B on their site now? The specs look identical but pricing is different. Does anyone know the differences are?

I just received my replacement 900b. So far everything seems good. I'm not noticing any lightbleed or uniformity issues. How can I test the set for banding? Iv been watching the world cup and don't really notice anything...but I'm not quite sure what to be looking for.

If you can't see anything wrong why go
Looking for it. I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find some sort of banding. Every 4k sony I've seen I've found some level of banding.
