The 2014 models also incorporate Sony’s ClearAudio+ digital signal processing for improved high-quality audio. ClearAudio+ combines a variety of Sony technologies to create an immersive experience with clear vocals and a wide range of sound. An optional wireless subwoofer (model SWF-BR100) is available to create a richer audio experience.

I am not sure - as there seems to be no mention of a shipping date for the B model on the Sony UK site...

The speakers kill this for me. Who are these people who spend thousands on televisions and have no surround sound systems?

people like me who have a 25'x45' living room with a 18' ceiling that opens into a 30'x30' dining room that couldn't wire or bounce surround sound to save my life my house is not exactly home theater friendly

It just goes to show - to each his own.

The reason I am drawn to this TV is because of the speakers on the side - and I have a very expensive 5.1/7.1 surround sound system.

But I do not like turning on the entire system, or listening to the TV through the surround sound system - I like listening to regular TV shows (not movies, etc.) through the regular TV speakers.

And these TV speakers are some very nice TV speakers.

Plus the extra gloss black on the sides gives the TV that "floating black" that I very much miss on older TVs with wider bezels.

Hello :

That 79 inch set is going to make a great center piece for a home theater. Also I heard that it will be passive 3D as well. The price if you can afford it is not bad considering what the current 85 sells for.(Consider as well that my set sold for $7000 when it first came out. I have the 65X900A and am envious of that set in particular.) If you do wind up buying that set good luck and enjoy it. .

LOL

Anyway, we here in Germany have to wait until approx August for the release.

I am hoping I can get the 79" for under $7,000 street-price "shortly" after it becomes available...

Hi :

Like I said good luck . If it was me I would stay away from the Sony sub. Sony is a great video company but not so with their speakers. it will be cosmetically appealing but probably not sonically so .. There are some great subs out there and really the 79 inch set deserves to be the centerpiece of a home theater ( If you have the space. Names like Rythmik, HSU,, Rel etc to name a few would be a good place to start looking. Check out the sub section of this forum.

It all depends on what you are looking for but the rich sound that Sony is talking about will probably come more from the above mentioned speakers that from the Sony sub. I may be off base here but I don't think so. There is nothing like a top quality 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set up in a home theater. As good as the Sony speakers on the set souud there is absolutely no comparison between a good 5 or 7.1 sound and the 900 series speakers. Not to say that they are bad they are what they are. They are nice TV speakers

LOL
Have to go to work

The matching sub only works with the 2014 Sony TVs - X900B TVs - is my understanding...

The TV actually controls the sub (wireless) and adjusts the phase, etc.

Hi :

I guess what I am saying that a 5.1 or 7.1 audio system along with the 79 inch Sony 4K TV would be the way to go if you want a home theater. I have that setup but with the 65 inch 4K TV. But if you do not have the AVR and 6 or more speakers it can be a bit of an investment. The speakers alone can be quite costly especially if you go on the high end side,

This Sony set is replacing a pioneer Elite plasma display that I have had for 6 years without one problem in fact it is upstaiairs in my living room with a 3.1 McIntosh tube setup that I have. The thing is that I have been collecting audio gear for about 30 years and have sometimes bought one piece at a time so if you spread the cost is not so bad. There are certainly worst addictions than being an audio / videophile., everybody is in s different situation

Regardless everybody has a different situation and budget and reason why they bought or will buy this set. Even as a stand alone set it is incredible.

So best of luck with whatever your setup is an enjoy your TV

Hi,

I have a doubt about the HDMI 2.0.
I have an HTPC connected via HDMI to an AV Receiver and the output obviously is the TV (55HX850). Now, if I change TV and go with the new x900 Serie, is there any problem? I mean I guess I can still watch my MKV via HTCP, AV and output on TV whkichh will upscale the content from 1080p to 4K...right?

In which case I will need to - also - change the AV Receiver with one that has hdmi 2.0 ?

Thanks

I am hoping that the new speaker array doesn't look quite as "plastic" on the new B model as it does the A model...

I know the speakers themselves are supposed to be much better - "thanks" (sarcastic) to the new wedge shape...

Thanks all for the useful info. I am a newbie out here and have spent lot of hours last week reading around the forums.

These are the most useful forums I have ever seen for AV info.

I am considering a 900B (55 inch), I was wondering if someone has information about HDCP and Display port availability on the TV?

I apologize in advance if my questions are dumb.

No questions here are dumb...

But since this TV won't be available for another month - there isn't a lot of traffic to this thread yet...

You might want to post your question in last year model's thread (55X900A/65X900A) - everyone in there is extremely knowledgeable...

HDCP 2.2 hasnt been confirmed on all ports (although I would be surprised if this was not the case). I believe the 900a series have it on one port only.

HDMI 2.0 will be a low bandwidth version with max support of 2160p @ 60fps 4:2:0 8-bit color

There wont be DisplayPort

OK, someone who actually knows more about this stuff needs to help me out here...

Why would the 2014 B model have HDMI 2.0 that is only 8 bit...?

I am inclined to think, it's the limitation of the Panel Sony is using.

Thanks golem.

You are right about 900A having HDCP only on HDMI 4

I found a reply from Sony in Sony forums for that

I agree. I spoke with Samsung pre sales and they said Samsung panels will be 10/12 bits but I don't trust that a lot as they also told me all HDMI ports on new Samsungs will be HDCP while the manual says only 1 port is HDCP.
