Sorry, I thought I heard only the UK/EU one wouldn't do Netflix 4K. I guess panasonic is enabling 4K netflix via their BD player instead.

Has nobody got these sets yet? I'm getting the 65" AX802 (AX800) in place of a second faulty X9B and the swap will take place on Friday. I spent a lot of time comparing the 2 sets plus the Samsung HU8500(UK equivalent of HU9000) All 3 have beautiful PQ and I would be happy to have any one of these sets as long as they are fault free but that's sadly

I'd sort of decided that I'm not going to risk a third X9 so it was between the other 2. I've viewed a 58" and 65" 802 over the past 2 days, as well as the Samsung and ran some HD, 4K and screen uniformity tests through the sets and both sets were actually quite good, motion was good, screen uniformity good with only very minor impurities as you might expect from a LCD screen. The difference was the black levels and off angle viewing. The Panasonic looked visibly deeper on blacks plus the black bars stayed black even from an angle which surprised me. I toggled the letterbox dimmer and it still looked black on or off. The Samsung faded to blue from extreme angles, still good as far as LCDs go and more than acceptable but the differences between the sets in this respect made me choose the Panasonic.

OK the viewing environment wasn't the best being in store but it was the same for both sets, I just hope I get a decent set in the panel lottery when mine arrives.

Panasonic TXP65VT65B, Samsung BD-C5900, HT-D455, DA-E670, Galaxy S4, Iphone 5, 10.1" Tab 2. SKY HD. Atollo LED light strips, Philips Living Colours Lamp, Harmony One Remote.

I was set to get the 65AX800 until the Panasonic rep who was in the store that day could not get the apps on the set to stream 4k content, claiming all the while he had seen YouTube and Netflix 4k stream on it.

With the limited sources for 4k available, and the set unable to display them, what I see is an upscaling 1080p set. I'm not a gamer, and I think its wrong of all the manufacturers to expect their customers to buy into 4k only to have to spend more money on another device to be able to use what should be built in and working from the outset.

For the most part what I saw looked very good, but I've seen many 1080p sets that are just as nice, and some better.

I'll wait for the 4k sets to work with the included apps.

The Samsung sets work perfectly with all the current 4K apps and are already under contract with amazon for their forthcumming 4k content.

Hey guys

So after a few days delayed delivery of my 65" AX800 I finally got it yesterday afternoon, and after initial impressions I'm afraid I have more bad news than good to report.

Took me a long time to set up, as the pedestal mounting method is very delicate and clumsy in my opinion.

First I tried the Moshi MiniDP to HDMI 4K adapter that came with it, and, unsurprisingly, it only supports 4K @ 24Hz, nothing more. Just another Apple rip-off. So forget about 4K gaming on a non-Panasonic TV.

After a quick picture calibration, I watched a blu-ray episode of How I Met Your Mother, and was thoroughly impressed with the overall picture quality, the upscale to 4K looks incomparably better than any 1080p screen I've seen before - at this point I was getting really excited until I put an Indycar race on - now with camera in high motion with frequent panning left and right a couple of purple-ish vertical bands in the right-middle part of the screen became very apparent - so much in fact, that I couldn't stop seeing them after that. This ruined it for me and my heart sank. Both bands are on the right side, one about 2 inches wide, and the second one about 5 inches wide. I tried every possible picture setting after that, but it was clearly visible on all of them in any camera panning motion.

I don't know if this is something that will plague all of the models, or if it's just mine. But the vertical banding is so bad in my one, that I will be requesting a replacement unit tomorrow after I've given it another try.

But I'm afraid it's back to square one for me... :(

Thanks for the initial report. Did you notice any bad clouding to go with that banding issue?

Your issue sounds like a defect given the width of the bands.

Very little clouding in upper right corner - not at all noticeable.

Apart from the vertical banding issues Panasonic have done a great job.

Too bad sounds like a bad one, I'll be interested to hear how Panny handles the exchange.   Certainly none of the reviews I've seen mention an issue like this.  I finally ordered my 58" today so with luck it should be here by the end of next week sometime (they are still back ordered 3-5 days).  I don't watch sports but I do gaming so I'd think if the problem was general it would show up while gaming.  Was the car race off-air stuff?...I can't test that no signals here (no 4k internet either so I'll just have to wait for 4k blue-ray, or find someone who can download 4k stuff now that some people can get fiber optic connections in the nearest town I'll have to make some new friends ;)).  I did order a "mastered in 4k disc" to a least test that out  (the only one that I could find that I wanted to watch was "Glory").

My AX802 is going to have to go back, it's got a large crescent shaped effect on the screen, not entirely sure if it's banding or DSE but it's not acceptable.

This is a shame because other than a bit of posterization the TV is very good, probably better PQ than the Sony X9B

EDIT, posterization is crazy tonight, can't be doing with this model if it's going to show that up all the time

Where is the crescent-shaped effect? Is it near the top in the middle of the screen? That's where my first 58" AX800 cracked during shipping. It created a massive posterization crescent-shaped blob through the middle of my screen. I put some pictures of the defect in the owner's thread. I'm hoping my second doesn't suffer the same fate.

Mine's not the same, here's some footage, 20-25 seconds in as the player is red runs to the right a large crescent shaped light patch can be seen to the left, it's there all the time but you can best see it where I've just described.

You can also see it here on the hockey

Apparently not that soon.

Craig Cunningham, Viera Product Manager at Panasonic, spoke to TechRadar at the company's European conference in Amsterdam about the situation, saying: "The AX900 will be coming at the end of the summer and it will be what we are replacing our plasma business with.
"It has THX certification, local dimming, studio mastered colour... it is everything we had on plasma on an LED."

So 3 more months if they don't make any hitch ups. Oh man it better be a good set. So difficult to resist and just grab one of those ax800 ones.

Supposedly the AX900 is going to have a different chassis than what they have given initial demos of. It is also supposedly going to MSRP for 8-10k in the 65" variety. Lastly, they are supposedly only going to sell or work an exclusive with Best Buy on distribution. I hope they do not. That right there could cost Panasonic my business. Best buy has some good employees, but corp customer service sucks.

That is definitely and effect of the panel tech and not likely different on any replacement units.

I think, it is what it is..........what a bummer. I will want to look at the 65AX900.........my 65ST60 and 50ST60 both are afflicted with IR just by bringing up the cable box menu.......... and I am now tired of it.

Good luck to Panasonic if they do price the AX900 at 8-10K. Yikes

B&H Photo just put up what I believe to be the first pre-order link in the US for the 65" Toshiba 65L9400U for $3,696.99. I believe this set will take part in the Value Electronics Shoot-Out and hope it performs well. Any early thoughts on how it might measure against the AX900?

Sony KDL46XBR2 :-o, Samsung SMT-H3270 HDDVR, Oppo BDP-95 (w/a Haier 7" HLT71), Sony BDP-S350, Emo UMC-1 & XPA-5,

It's been listed there for weeks. It supposedly will participate if it shows up in time.

I lost interest in the Toshiba given that the N.A. models will not be 3D enabled. Looks like my focus is back on the AX900.
