Yes - semi gloss is a better descriptor....
It definitely is a lot less glossy than the Toshiba it replaced.

Can anyone tell me if the 50 inch is a Samsung Panel? And are there any major differences between the 6350 50inch and the 6300 50 inch? Ironically enough, the 2013 models are more expensive than this particular model which is why I'm curious. I have 1000 dollars in best buy gift cards so I'm fine either way but I'd like to know if possible.

Thanks in advance!

According to this:http://nxsfan.co.uk/mediawiki/index.php/Samsung_Panels Last years F series 6300's, the panels were from AU Optronics. The only way to know for sure is to go to our local BB or HHGreg and have the salesman check the stickers on the box for the version number. The only differences is that stand is shinier and the CPU is quad core from dual core.

It looks like I am going to have to return my tv (60" version). The off angle viewing is horrible. Looking straight on, the color is great, but when I move more than 5' to each side the color washes out very noticeably. It's very distinct with skin tones. Might have to go back to Sony TVs. I really want to keep the tv, but in my large living room, only the center seat gets stood viewing experience.

I also have problems with the green bars.  This is the second tv to do this.  Took the first one back to best buy now the second one is doing the same.  Talked to Geek squad and they could not find anything about this  problem.  Have the latest software version 1110.4 that was downloaded 6/4/14.  They suggested returning it to the store.  Don't know if I will risk getting a third set or maybe try an LG.

The green bars would cover the entire screen. They were not transparent they were wide with thin black lines separating them. I am now the owner of a Sony.

I snagged the UN55H6350 when Sears had it for that ridiculous price! I was worried it would end up being a different model, but it's the right one... with the TH01 panel!!!

I really like the TV, and the apps I've tried all work except for Netflix. I can log into my account, but when I try to actually play a movie it says the title is not available right now. I've found a couple things on-line where people had similar issues, and I tried manually setting the DNS server settings, but it is still occurring. Has anyone else faced this and found a resolution?

re: our backlight ("flashlight") problem with our UN75H6300 from Costco:

We spoke with the Costco Concierge, who had us execute some basic configuration features and then connected us with a Samsung service facility. The technician will be calling and stopping by next Thursday. However, the problem is only visible in a dark room, and at present, it is only dark here after 8:30pm or so. There is not way to darken the room. So, the technician will be stopping by when the problem is not visible (at least to me). So, I have some questions:

1) Is there any point in the technician stopping by? Are they able to recognize and correct a problem like this?

2) Should I forget about the technician and just have Costo send us another unit?

thanks

Keith

Update on the Pandora issue. Checked today and it was working again. Not sure when it came back since I was out of town all week, but good news so far.

We just purchased a UN55H6300 from Costco this past weekend.

It replaces a LN-T4661F that we bought back in 2007.

The 55" TV fits in the same spot as our 46" TV occupied -- basically a 33" & 58" opening in our entertainment center.

To me, the picture quality is outstanding & I really haven't done anything to it except the basic quick setup.

I remember spending a ton of time fine tuning the original 46" unit.

Quite amazing so far.

I just want to double check, the 55" inch version UN55H6350 is always a samsung panel right - so no panel lottery to worry about at this size?

also, are there no flashlight issues with this model - I believe it is back lit so this would make sense? I can deal with some clouding, but want to verify there are no flashlight or other drawbacks..

looking for a 50" 6350 in canada but unfortunately neither bestbuy or futureshop has them in store. special order only (they have them in their warehouse...)

i normally would check the box for version numbers to get a sammy panel. does anyone know if the 50" panels are sammy only or do i need to worry about the dreaded panel lottery?

thanks!

p.s. what's up with the limited size selection in canada? would prefer a 48" panel but samsung canada only brings this set in starting at 50" -- weird!

I am interested in the UN50H6350 but the only ones I can find have the AUO panel. I see a couple posts above indicate the 50" might be only AUO - anyone own this model with a samsung panel? I have been able to find 48" and 55" UNH6350's with T* version numbers on the box - just can't decide to upsize or downsize if the 50" is never made w/samsung panel.

I have looked at five different stores local to me, every UN50H6350 I saw had version AH01. I was able to find UN48H6350 and UN55H6350's that have a T* version number.

I got my parents a UN40H6350 with a T* panel and like it a lot - now I am trying to find a larger version of the set but with a Samsung panel.

Get one with a Samsung panel. I had looked at a 55" and a 60" set and several stores and came away with the impression that the 55" looked superb with the 60" a close second. My wife and I decided we needed a 65" set so I ordered from Amazon. After receiving it and calibrating the set, I thought it was a different model. Found out it had a AOU panel version number AH01. Also I found out that all of the panels 65" h6400 down have a AOU panel. I could have returned it but would have cost me shipping. Samsung has been less then helpful. They took my complaint at the ECR department and stated someone would call me. Went the corporate side without any returned phone calls or emails. My focus now is to maximize my viewing experience with the panel I do have. Any thoughts from any other members with AUO panel would be appreciated. We must put as much illumination on this practice. Any reviews you give please mention the panel lottery and the differences in quality. If enough potential buyers see this practice it might effect Samsung's bottom line and get their attention.

I had the UN46F6300 for a bit before returning it, but I seem to recall that turning off overscan on my computer and setting the TV's Picture Size setting to "Screen Fit" made the picture fit perfectly to the screen and the text was very readable.

I just got the UN48H6350 and tried the same settings and am perplexed by the results. The picture size doesn't fit with overscan turned off and the TV set to "Screen Fit," but it does fit correctly with overscan turned on. And either way I can't get the text to look quite right. It's kind of jaggy no matter what picture size I set the TV to, and regardless of whether I enable or disable overscan.

What am I doing wrong? I just want the TV to render a pixel-perfect 1920x1080 image straight from the computer without any Auto Motion Plus / other post-processing garbage done to the image.

(Also, while it's not relevant to my question, some people seem very interested in which manufacturers make which size panels. My 48" 6350 has version number TS01 which is a Samsung panel I believe. Other than the weird behavior when using it as a secondary computer display, the panel quality is excellent with very even pictures and nice contrast if you play with the settings.)

There is no 50" or 60" Samsung panels. Over the many product cycles I haven't seen any Samsung's S-PVA panels in those sizes. In the past, Sharp has provided the two sizes. Now, we have to include AUO into the mix. It is likely that the Samsung factories are not geared to cut those sizes efficiently and economically.

Don't forget also that there are no Samsung panels in the 65" size. All of those are AUO panels. That from the H6400 series down.

I noticed the local Costco has the UN55H6300 in stock, some with TH panels, and another lot with UF panels. Since they're both Samsung panels, would there be any difference?

Happened to be at Wally World down at Myrtle Beach and saw a Samsung 6000 series on a endcap which was on sale for 698. Looked to be around 40". The set looked god awful compared to the rest of the displays. Checked the back for the version number and it was AH01. A AUO panel. They had a 75" and a 55" of the same model and both sets looked dramatically better. Same thing I am seeing at every store when comparing Samsung sets with AUO panels compared to sets with either Samsung panels or a Sharp panels.

Just bought the 48" Samsung UN48H635 for $599 from Buydig via ebay with free shipping and no tax. It was one of those flash deals ebay runs and I thought it was too good of a deal to pass up.

This was all of course before I knew about this so-called panel lottery. I've seen some mention here of how certain sizes are not affected. Is the 48" part of the lottery? I should be hoping for a T or A? Even if it is one of the lower panels, is it worth keeping for the price I paid?

Thanks

Not sure about who makes that panel. No info that I can find. When you get, let us know. you do not have to open its original box. Check for the sticker and version number.

Here are the panel codes per Samsung own part site: H7150: 46=TS01, 55= TS01, 60= HH01, 65=TH01, 75=TS01. H6400: 40=unknown, 48=TS01, 50=AS01, 55=TS01,US02, 60=HD01, 65=MD01. H6350: 32=TS01, 40=TS01, 48=TS01, 50AH01, 55=TH01,UH02, 60=HS01, 65=AH01, 75=TH01. H5500: 32=TS01, 40=TS01, 48=TS01, 50=WH01.

Hopes this helps prospective buyers. One change from last year is that other then the 60" Sharp, only Samsung panels are being placed in the H7150 line. Also curios is the 5500 series that has all Samsung panels. It makes sense that I heard David K say that the 5 and 8 series were very solid but the middle lines were a mixed bag.

Just remember A or M = AU Optronics, T, U, or W = Samsung, and H = Sharp.
