Any idea when? Getting a bit annoyed -- when you spend 5-7k for a TV, they should get their ducks in a row. And the one box? Terabyte of space, but very few films. Sony has 50, I think.

Sony owns a Movie Studio and rights - Samsung doesn't, thus Sony likely will always have that advantage initially anyway, plus they may be on the cutting edge at CES 2015 for whatever BD morphs into or transitions to.

Who knows we may get a teaser next week at IFA in Berlin. Japan started a UHD Channel back in June and I believe there's others that will join the Netflix bandwagon and Movies /content may morph much like video gaming has and continues away from hardware media. I expect Display Port will become a 2015 adopted UHD interface as Joe Kane recently suggested. Patience is a bitch indeed.

Samsung 65F8000, 60D8000, 40HU6350, Panasonic 50E60 LCD's

Samsung is releasing more movies this year from fox, etc.
The samsung tablet is also compatible with the tv.

In 12 months you will be happy you can upgrade your tv.

Depends if there is any updates worth having.......Most of the real big improvement's require a different screen. Not a bad idea though. LG need this on there OLED's so they can be 1/8" thick from top to bottom....

So if the connections change? Processors have helped last years f9000. Many owners saying the processing has helped the picture.

Also last years set dont do netflix uhd. They have to get the 2014 evo kit to get it on last years sets.

So i think we in fact can look forward to the improvements outside the panel and there clearly are benefits.

What improvements are you referring to? What updates do you think are worth having as an as an upgrade to the one box -- or are you just pushing new screens?

# 1 upgrade, a display port added for 4K transfer from PC's. After that, not really sure........

Also if you find issues with playing netflix or youtube there are 2 solutions.

Earlier in this thread i posted that the best way to keep netflix and youtube working was to use the exit button.

Sometimes that still has issues.

Now the next fix is easy. To reset the smart hub and not lose your info and log ins etc turn the tv off.

Unplug the evo kit from the back of the tv.

Now replug it back in and the smart hub will reset but not lose your log in etc.

It will only fix the black screen issue. Or any issue where the video is not playing through the tv's apps.

No more smart hub resets and losing your info.

Ive also come to the conclusion that i like high dynamic contrast.

I prefer the pop it gices the screen.

It is a heavy setting.

On or off is a big difference.
It may be a small bit crushing.

I use gamma +1 it brings back a lot of detail. I dont need to go higher on my set after that.

Now using medium setting for dynamic contrast allows the most detail for me and balanced pop.

When i do that i dont use gamma and leave it at 0.

Ive come to really like the super pop you get from high dynamic contrast.

Animations really benefit.

78HU9000 with the Oppo BDP-105D, best settings

Hi,

Another question.

The 78HU9000 with the Oppo BDP-105D.

1: What is the native colorspace for the 78HU9000? Oppo suggest set the player on this native colorspace
2: HDMI UHD Color mode. I switch this on. and seems to work with the Oppo. Should this be switched on?
3: Should I let the Oppo do the upscaling? I assume the 78HU9000 get's a UHD signal, so that is why HDMI UHD Color works?
4: Source Direct, It might be me, but it seems like the Oppo in "source direct" mode gives the sharpest image (despite no Darbee), but my mind can play tricks with me.

All in all, The BDP-105D together with the 78HU9000. What are the "best" settings on botch machines?

Thanks!

congrats. I cant help with most of your questions. The 78 is different than the 65.

hut set the player to 10 I 0p. Let the tv do the upscale work. Trt to make it as little conversion as possible.

Sorry. Yes 1080p. And the sets just act too different to really be able to use the same settings.

Thanks again.

I tried 1080P, however "source direct" looks superior. Only with "source direct" it is like the picture pop's from the screen like a sharp razor. More over, far away detail from deep images is superior.

Any explanation why?

Isn't the 78HU9000 not up converting any source to 4K no matter 1080P or not?

Any source you feed it should be in its native format.

So if its bluray. Dont upscale in the player.

I have a weird problem.

When I set the picture size on 16:9 parts of the sides and upper/lower part gets cut off.

For example, if I send my desktop from my macbook to the apple TV, and output this 1080p/60Hz. sides and uper/lower parts are cut off.

When I select my Oppo, and I toggle between "fit screen" and "16:9" I loose a slight part from the sides and upper/lower part. What is this....? With "fit screen" I have the full picture.

Since this happeneds to all my sources there must be something (a setting) wrong in the TV set.

Isn't 1080P native for 16:9? Am I doing something wrong?

Please help...

Do you have any clouding, or dead pixels?

Can u be so kind to set a BD on pauze or the start menu, and then toggle on your Tv between 16:9 and "fit screen" and please tell me if u see parts are missing in the 16:9. It is less then an inch missing so u have to look good for it.

Thanks

Dear All,

I think I am just stupid. Just read this on the samsung website

"Screen Fit: This mode is used to display an image with no scaling. It provides a 1:1 pixel mapping of the incoming signal on the TV's screen. This mode is only available with a 1080p, 1080i, or 720p signal"

Seems only this mode gives 1:1 pixel mapping. I assumed that is the 16:9 mode.

So don't use the 16:9 mode, it does scaling and stretching it seems! It is kinda odd since out of the box it is on 16:9 mode.

Looks like you already answered your question... But yeas, 16:9 does cur off a very small slice of the pictures.

I do not have any clouding (ok just a little...) and all my pixels are alive. Very happy with the TV.

I know you like the standard setting. However my room is very dark, I have thick covering curtains. In movie mode it is more pleasant to my eyes. I very much like the color tone and contrast of my Macbook Pro Retina screen (also a Samsung panel). It is warm and has (in my opinion) very accurate whites. I try to emulate that with the 78HU9000. Movies mode comes closer, but still I like the tone of the Retina screen better.

Sorry but what is "torch"?

"Torch" mode refers to high brightness settings such as maxing out backlight, brightness and contrast.

They don't need to be maxed out. They can still be just high settings too. Mostly known as store demo mode. And how to get that look basically.
