I've been seriously looking at the various 4K sets out there, primarily Sony & Samsung but am waiting till the next generation or new models arrive before pulling the trigger. But in the meantime, am also looking for a 60-65 inch led set, more or less to use till the new models appear. My budget is around $2000. I already have a Sony HX929 in the bedroom, which I'm happy with. But whenever I'm in the local big box store, I can't help but make mental comparisons between a 4k & regular set.
Or maybe just wait? BTW the LED would be replacing an old Sony XBR CRT TV in the great room. Never had an ideal way for a led but with some remodeling, I now have a space for it.

The 4k is on the wait list till the new models come out.

Just looking for a non-4k led in the meantime. The budget is around $2k.

The sharp sq models have a new technology that upconvert video to near 4k and really looks good in person. Reviewers say that it's like a 3k resolution and the visual quality is closer to 4k than 1080p. The Quatron plus technology splits the pixels into subtpixels and controls them independently so it makes the TV 16 million pixels. IMHO it upconvert SD, HD, Full HD better than my x900a does, only blue ray and UHD content on the x900a look better. And to be honest if it wasn't for the passive 3d that my wife loves I'd have gotten a Quatron plus set instead and Alot cheaper than uhd sets. Also it can take a uhd signal and downconvert to its "3k" so it's somewhat future friendly
