A few of us just got this set in last couple of days. I'd love others to share your settings, tips, etc.

I notice some weird artifacts around text with my Apple TV. I just got the my UN55H7150 this morning, and it replaces a UN55F6350. I AirPlayed the same 1080p content to the 7150 via the Plex iOS app and it looks a bit more compressed than it did last night on the F6350. Any settings I should adjust and any “features” I should turn off?

Apparently the main difference in picture is that the F8000 has micro dimming ultimate while the 7150 has micro dimming pro. In movie mode micro dimming is off so that negates that difference.
Really? Is there no way to activate micro dimming in movie mode? Is it a separate control from dynamic contrast? I thought they were essentially one in the same.

This is something I'm interested in also. I had my TOSHIBA FALD replaced by the Samsung ES8000 a couple of months ago.

The ES8000 doesn't offer Micro Dimming Ultimate in Movie Mode. It's only active in the other modes.

This forces me to use Standard mode in order to get decent black levels.

I'm not happy and thinking about getting another TV, but my wife is totally against it.

This set is on my radar, but would be a no go if Dimming is not available in Movie Mode

After reading the info about this TV vs. the Sony it looks like this TV is the way to go. The only thing Sony beat it is lag but they say this is still acceptable for gaming. It wins in blacks, PQ, and 3D quality. It kinda sucks to have to switch to active but I have no choice, there is no really good passive 70" available. So I gotta go for the best PQ which isn't a bad thing.

Keep in mind, Active is going to take better advantage of the available resolution. The downside of course is the whole battery, charging thing. This TV gives you glasses that use batteries which can be annoying as you tear through them.

I'm curious to see how my set will pan out. I got the 46" to use as a TV/computer monitor on my desk. I wanted a 32", but none of the 32s from Samsung have glossy screens this time around, which really helps with text driven sources, so 46" it is. The TV's listed width is just 1.5 inches shorter than my desk, and I have to have it off-center to line up properly with my speakers and seating position (seating area on desk is left centered, not symmetrically centered), but it looks like the stand used for this set has a nice narrow angle that gives it enough support with the left edge of the TV hanging over the side of the desk. Gonna take getting used to 46 inches up in my face though when I'm playing WoW or Diablo 3. But my console games should rock on it.

I just wish I could have gotten the 6950 series. That comes in a smaller size and has 2160p, but sadly it uses a forced 4:2:0 chroma subsampling mode that is non-defeatable, making it absolutely lousy for computer use. WTB Samsung to wake up and start using DisplayPort connections on their UHD TVs...

I'll post my results with the TV once I get it set up. It's replacing a Samsung UN32C6500VFXA, so it has some big shoes to fill. Thankfully it comes with both the annoying egg remote and the more friendly regular remote, which is what I will use since the remove will sit perpendicular to me above the FKeys on my keyboard and I'll use it to do the "Konami code" dance through the menus to enter/leave game mode (sure wish Samsung would put a game mode button on their remotes). For reference, with the remote pointing sideways in front of me, I press Menu -> down, down down, right, up, up, up, right, right, down, exit to go back and forth between game mode/standard mode currently. Here's hoping the new menu is as easily navigated. :)

Yes, I'm picky about how I do things. I'm a tech support specialist. It's my OCD. :D

yeah see I'm curious about that too. My R55a I would set a dark picture for cinema and my actual preferred settings in standard. And would just switch back to the dark picture at night when it was too bright for me.

#1,302 ·
Oh by the way, for gaming. From what I read you actually have to chose some input and name it PC to get the lower input lag, is that correct?

But if I do that, is that gonna grey out some of the advanced picture options? (this is important because I like to mess around with those. So it's like I could play a game, but not with my favorite picture settings).

#1,304 ·
Ok so it's like a "tool" setting? I have an older samsung and you go down to "tools" it looks like a gear, then select game mode. Does it grey out any of your picture options?

#1,306 ·
what sort of options are available in picture processing mode? Things like HDMI black level and such?

I just had this TV delivered yesterday and hooked it up. I purchased the 65" 7150. So far after only a couple of hours of viewing I am not impressed with its clarity on sports coming from my Dish Hopper. Maybe I have something turned off that I shouldn't. I am going to play around with it more tonight. I have the TH01 panel by the way. Anyone else have this panel and have the same issue?

I suggest going to the blu ray review section. I believe Ralph has some list sorted out by picture quality and sound quality ratings. See if you have any of the movies that scored 10/10 in 2D picture quality.

A couple of the real good ones I remember were Frozen and Star Trek into Darkness. There are plenty of others.

Here you go ZMad....

Please don't touch anything in the SM other than what I post below. You can brick your TV.

You need the old style remote. I haven't figured out the code in the new one.

1. Turn the TV Off.
2. With the remote control press Mute, 1, 8, 2, Power. It takes a few seconds and then the SM will appear
3. Arrow down to SVC and press the Enter button in the center of the arrows
4. Arrow down to Expert and press Enter
5 .Right click on N/D ADJ to ON --- NOT FIX
6. Press Enter
7. Press Power
8. Wait a few seconds
9. Press Power
10. The Picture Mode will start in Dynamic
11. Change Picture Mode
12. Done[/QUOTE]

Thanks for that! Wasn't sure if SM codes were available out there, as I haven't looked for them yet. Do I assume correctly that this opens an additional picture mode slot that can be renamed or set to "movie" mode resulting in 2 movie modes that can be calibrated separately?

Thanks again for posting these codes...

from a sony HX929 owner: My Samsung H7150 review

I just bought a 65H7150 and I just came from a Sony 55HX929, so here's my short review of the H7150
1.H7150 has great blacks very close to the HX929, and I do mean very close by a nose.
2. The H7150 doesn't have any kinds problem wtih flashlight, well mine doesn't..
3. the H7150 picture is so great I would of thought I paid 2,900 for it like my H929 and its a high end full Led
4. the 3d is also great
5.with a lot of things, the picture its just as clear as the HX929

Here is what I didn't like about the H7150
what I don't like about the H7150: I just found out I do have some clouds in the picture, but their not really bad and the really dark scenes have a ashy look to them and their not as dark as the HX929, but at the very same time, I really do like the picture of the H7150
some times from a far shot scene, a face would look kind of blurred, but it isn't really a big turn off for me.. and still going over my settings, and that only con I could think of at this time.... so it looks like I'm keeping the H7150 and selling my HX929:)... If I had a cam I would take some pictures for u guys.

^^good description. I have always been a fan of turning black levels to the lowest setting. Now I used to even turn dynamic contrast to high also. When I got my Sony I found I was happy putting that more in the low setting but also black levels low. You are correct when you put it that way. I guess I like that "pop" a bit more. But you do lose a bit of the darkest colors that are supposed to be visible.

From now on, I try to do my best to get that nice pop to the picture but with also not having too much black crush. As long as you love the way the picture looks, it's your TV right, so just enjoy it!

Decided to exchange the first UN65H7150 for another instead of a full refund.

Received that replacement 65: 7150 today and it was worse than the first. Clouding in all four corners bleeding right smack dab into the center of the screen, vertical banding, awful (and I mean awful) color and less than stellar app performance. I guess I should have been happy with the first one.

Oh, and both TVs were TH01 panels. Sadly, I think it's time to try a different brand...

Back to my tried and true 50" Dumb TV.

Samsung has sent some one to fix the clouding on my set, so I'm not giving up just yet...

Been following this thread for awhile an picked up the 46 inch 7150 and love it. My father in law also liked it but is looking to upgrade to the 60 inch. I've read it has the sharp panel and would like to read some opinions from 60 inch owners. How do you like the 60 inch set? We are by no means videophiles like most on here just like a good picture. Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Of course it is understood that the calibration settings may not transfer perfectly on every set - even if they are the same model/panel, each set is a little unique and generally requires individual calibration. So shared settings can be helpful and can translate very well (depending on how uniform the TV's are), but may not be perfect in some cases.
It is difficult to say without being there with a meter what exactly to change. You could try tweaking the "flesh tone" setting under advanced settings and see if that helps. Otherwise, I'd guess the red color calibration in color space might need a bit tweaking on your set, but difficult to say remotely. It seems as if within red color calibration (in color space) you may need to reduce green by a notch or two or increase blue. Alternatively, you could keep red color the same as out of the box setting for it... Try one of those options and see what gets you the best result, and good luck ;)

Curious if folks buy extended warranty's. I am currently in a debate with my wife regarding the new 75 inch 7150 coming in next week to our pad.

Most articles say nix buying one, as the failure rate is low, and most failures happen way after the extended warranty. Then you see complaints from people about TV's that take a dirt nap after a few years. How expensive is it to repair this TV? It would seem to me the pricey piece would be the panel itself, and the other stuff would not be that much.

Again, I don't know, and would love to hear everyone's input.

Thanks!

I can give you a similar example as Teremei: I also always buy BB extended warranties, and so far they have always paid out for me. I had some pixel issues on a plasma a couple of years ago, which manufacturer warranty would not have covered, but under BB warranty they swapped the TV for a new one, and even better (latest model).
Then, I had some white spots on my Sharp LED panel that was already a couple of years old and out of manufacturer warranty - same thing, I got the full value of it back (full price I paid for it brand new) and just paid up the difference to get this H7150. So there are definitely good reasons for getting the extended warranty as you truly can have the peace of mind that you'll be well covered if anything goes wrong with the TV, and 3 or 4 years in, something often does... So if you get it, get the 4 or 5 years coverage (depending on what's offered)... Just my experience with it...

I can only tell you my history. I've bought a few 3-5 years from best buy. No they smartened up they only offer 1, 2, and 5. They know that 3 or 4 is the smartest investment so they don't give you that option.

Anyway a decade ago I got a toshiba from tweeter center with a protection plan, it went bad 3 years later and they sent me a check for the full $2800. Last year I bought a 5 year at best buy and the Sony TV went bad. Well I got the full purchase price toward a new TV. But they refunded part of the warranty I didn't use and I used that for a new warranty. There is no TV this year I absolutely love, and I had to actually pay $300 more to get a comparable TV.

I think these 2 examples give you sort of different ends of it. One helped me out quite a bit and the other happened during the 1 year manifacturer warranty that I wouldn't have needed a store bought warranty for. But if I did I might have been forced to get Sony's TV this year, which has active 3D which I hate. So it might still have helped some. In general I am in favor of them, but I am souring on them just slightly.

What's the difference in the h7150 and h7100?
They are identical from what I can tell. The 7100 is Costco's model which includes a Bluetooth keyboard.
