I feel so foolish. I only learned about checking my FIOS HD cable box a few days ago, after pouring through these forums. My Verizon Box was set at 720p. I changed to 1080i. Can't believe I was watching TV for so long on 720p......

There is really not that big of a difference. It is actually better to watch in the format the station uses. Every channel pretty much uses 1080i, but ABC, ESPN, and a few others use 720p. If your cable box has the "native" option that is best.

Yes I agree the 850b has great motion control vs the 900a. And for me the 850b had much less banding problems.

If you are happy with everything about the set except it's wifi performance, perhaps you should consider keeping it and getting internet to the set in some other way. The best solution is obviously to run an ethernet feed, but if this isn't feasible, a WAP may be a good option as well.

Happens on all of the boxes as well. Cable, Satellite, or U-verse.

Had my 65 850B for 2 weeks now, replaced a 55 XBR8 with a dying FBU board. Started adjustments in Custom mode and settings suggested earlier in this thread. It looked ok and I spent a lot of time with a Blu-Ray experimenting to get my blacks to an acceptable level. I changed to the Cinema 1 and made a few adjustment to backlight and picture and a few others as detailed on page 26 of this thread and it looks much better. Very happy with the color and blacks....it will be staying on those settings for a long time.

I do notice some clouding in the upper right corner, flashlighting....call it what you will, when the screen goes black when transitioning to Netflix for instance, but I do not notice it when an image or picture is on the screen. The XBR8 did the same thing so I think this is fairly normal......don't want to play the panel lottery at this point but I will keep an eye on it.

This mess is happening to me since I switched to LED TVs.... Sporting events when panned out you get this horrible grainy effect around all the players and tv logos.

It seems noone can tell me if it's my cable service or TV settings. I believe its the cable itself. HD premium channels (HBo) are flawless. Football is just unbearable to watch. I have comcast X1 platform. Using Monster Cable HDMI 4k ready.

Im not sure how no one else is experiencing this if they have comcast and this sony TV.

Mark, sounds like it is the source material (cable provider), my sports HD channels look excellent with DirecTV.

Cam,

Do you mind sharing your exact settings. I'm a new owner and trying to come to grips of the settings.

Thank you

I'm sitting here watching golf on my 70x850b and the arching double or triple band is very noticeable on the rightside of the screen anytime the camera pans or zooms. This is exactly the same banding seen on my two previous 70w850b's. Very disappointing to see this on the 70x.

When you watch NFL games do you notice a weird grainy/static/halo effect around the players when the camera is zoomed out?

No I really haven't exactly noticed that during a football game but the banding or halo I'm seeing is indeed static. Easier to notice on golf because they zoom in on in progress putts so often. It is visible on any solid color like a blue sky or a light tan wall. Ice is also very evident, like a hockey game. There are several pictures posted early in the w850b thread. I just expected better with the so called Flagship X series.

Is there a way to enable the optical port? I connect my cable to the 850b and nothing happens with my Sony receiver, my last two sony tv's were just plug and play. Thanks!

Hey Guys. I am deciding on whether or not I should replace my 58" plasma. I am debating between the 70" 850B and the 65" 900B. I am not sure if my money is better spent on the extra 5 inches which I know I'll appreciate, or the extra tech (better dimming, better motion blur reduction(I watch a lot of golf a sport that can be very prone to the blur effect)). I also do not care for the speakers very much, but am willing to live with them if the PQ is worth it. I am also considering waiting to see what the near future holds. I do my watching 50/50 day and night and watch mostly sports and movies as well as play a little games. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

If you watch a lot of golf, I would stick to your plasma. You will have some banding during golf that is pretty distracting with either set.

Well, not new, as they're always a month or so behind in listing the most recent update.

Certainly no "future" because, um it's in the future.

Well we know LG is coming out with a 4k OLED 77in but that's in the future. Any future upgrades would be nice to know about.

Yes, and Buick will be coming out with a 2016 automobile.

Hardware is one thing, software updates are a totally different animal.
