That is $300 more than the 55X850B.

To get the most out of your x850b, we have compiled a spreadsheet with recommended picture calibration settings from experienced x850b owners, from both 70" (VA panel) owners, and 49"/55" (IPS panel) owners, so both types of panels used in x850b TVs are covered. Choose either option below:

Daniel Tonks' calibration settings are included and they are INCREDIBLY useful as he includes detailed descriptions of how each picture setting affects the picture, and even more importantly, when one setting has a significant affect on other settings.[/QUOTE]

It looks like the 65X850B sale price was a mistake. It's back on store.sony.com for $3,999.99. It was marked at $3,299.00 for 2 days.

If that's the case I think that might have been a "steal"!

With that being said, I wonder how much the 65X850B will compare to the 65HU8550.  I personally am very interested in the Sony considering how many issues I keep hearing about regarding the HU8550.

My speculation is that input lag will be lower on the X850B's given Sony's track record with the subject.

A few things I'd like to know about the X850B's that aren't quite published yet:

-How many HDMI 2.0 ports are there that will accept 4k/60?  HU8550 only has one from what I can tell.  The rest are of a lower specification.

-There does not seem to be local dimming on these X850B's correct?  What is Sony's equivalent or solution to this?  Is it even relevant.

-I noticed on Sony's website that they claim that the "4k X-Reality Pro" is an engine that upscales everything.  I'd like to know more about this and if this engine is going to cause some screen juddering as I believe Samsung's equivalent is causing the same.

I just ordered an 55" X850B. Should be shipping tomorrow and be on my tv stand early next week. Can you do simulview even though its passive? Do I just order some PS3 glasses that have the same lenses?

The TV ships with 2 sets of Passive 3D glasses model number TDG-500P.

Do us a favor and come back and share your impressions with us. Tell us what advantages and disadvantageous you find with the TV.

I'm very interested. I'm sure many are.

No problem. You guys are going to have to steer me on what I should use to calibrate etc. it's been a while since I bought a borderline flagship tv.

I also pulled the trigger on the XBR-55X850B, will be here sometime this week. Sony offered it to me as a replacement from the 2013 850A cause I was having some pretty bad clouding issues. Good move or bad move? Could have moved up to the 900B for 1200$ just didn't know if it was worth it to do so.

For me the speakers on the 900b just add too much to the size of the TV. So it's either this or the 950b which will cost me my left testicle.

I agree with you there, what concerns me is the frame dimming as compared to local dimming. Be sure to follow up and let us know what you think when you receive it, I can t find any reviews anywhere!

I have the same train of thought.

Not sure why they didn't make the 850b to the same spec as the 900b but without the speakers.  Isn't that what they did with last year's 850a and 900a?  I can't see how that would make it much more expensive.

Hopefully we'll get to see some reviews before they kick off in Brazil.

I personally don't care for the look of the 900 unless I was building a room around it, specifically to show it off. I guess the reason I feel this way too, is because I just moved and I'm going to have 2 55" screen "almost" side by side and it has to look somewhat uniform even though one tv will be an LG and the other will be a Sony. Both will have "legs". HDMI 2.0 and HEVC aren't the only reasons I chose the 850B, but they are the main ones.

Gald to hear I'm not the only one. Yes my 850A has the same local dimming and motion flow 960 as the 900A, but it seems that the 850B has "frame dimming", from what I gather is not as good as local dimming, although most experts agree that both technologies are gimmicky and the only real backlight strobing tech is FALD, which is found only in the most expensive sets. Also the 850B having a motion flow of 240 is concerning. I just can't wait to know somebodies thoughts who actually has one in front of them in home.

So the main reason is outside appearance? I can see what your saying but if you have 2 separate brands isn't that kinda throwing off the feng shui? Haha jk, for me appearance comes in close second to the capabilities of the panel followed by function.

Naw, the main reason was based on need. The first was a 55" screen, after that, you could say, "Oh, let me get a 4k with HDMI 2.0 and HEVC, since it cost only a little more than 2k." Everything just fell into place after that.

I understand what your saying, Im just hoping this frame dimming and motion flow 240 is up to par.

Hopefully we'll get to see some reviews before they kick off in Brazil.

Are you referring to the Copa Do Mundo? Or Sony 4K TVs launching in Brasil?

It looks as if Sony is dumping all of their left over 2013 4K parts to Brasil. Brasil's 2014 models are the US & Europe 2013 models.

My friends from Rio have seen my 65X900B and are kinda pissed they're getting last year's models.

The World Cup. I'm in the UK. Sony say the 65X850B will be available from 11th June.

Too bad for your friends, but who needs UHD when you can attend the matches live!

I don't think we will be able to watch it in native 4k anyways, at least here in the United States where no cable or satellite provider is broadcasting in 4k yet.

Sony is doing a BIG push of 4K in Brasil along with the Copa. The screens at the stadiums will be 4K and they are setting up 4K televisions throughout Rio displaying the Copa.

I too saw the 850B only on display at my local best but

Are you sticking with your 850B order? What did you decide?

I still have my order placed for the 850B but I have a week to decided if I want to switch to the 900B. From what I saw the 850B easily stood up to the 850A, even with frame dimming. I think ultimately whatever Sony decided to do in house with the Triluminous Display has worked wonders. The blacks where very inky and did not disturb the brightness of the whites and other lighter colors. It all looked very uniform. Now to get it in my house and give it the real test! How are you liking your 900B?
