If they don't discontinue it early, a set you can get next year at this time will be the exact same as one you can buy off the shelf today (and given the relatively low sales for a relatively pricy LCD set, it may actually be the one sitting on the shelf today. )

Plus the 940Cs will come with the ugly and for most completely useless side speakers like the current 900B models have.

You don't think the sales have picked up with the price decrease? Sony.com has the 65x950b on back order.

I'm sure they've picked up some, but as the opponents of OLED will tell you, $6K is still very pricy for a 65" LCD set for most, and Joe Six Pack will compare the price to the LG in the corner selling for $849.

I'm surprised at the venom towards the 900b speakers. I like it. Adds to the look and surprisingly sounds well. Sure it ain't no MT60D setup but it's still damn good. Just tweak the surround option a bit throw in a bit more bass and it's more than adequate for casual watching.

It looks good but takes up so much real estate. If you are buying this TV are you really a casual watcher? If I had a TV with front facing speakers they better compete with Bose CineMate 130.

There are no changes. It will continue as is. It will not have Andriod TV. That requires a special chip to run and the 950B doesn't have it.

Just picked up a 65x950b as my hx950 got the lines of death.

So far so good but I cannot seem to enable full pixel mode for the display area. Manual says it can do it but apparently it never gives me that as a choice just normal -1 or +1. And as per manual I made sure source is 1080 and set turn auto detect off and so on.

Sony support was about as helpful as they were when my hx950 died ie worthless and if it wasn't for the credit I wouldn't have bought another Sony TV.

Any knowledge or info would be greatly appreciated

hello all........i'm currently a pioneer kuro owner, but maybe looking to upgrade (if you wanna call it that) due to the fact that these tv's are getting old now and i have no idea on how long this one will last. i'm toying with the idea of looking for another elite which is gonna be $$$$$ (again how much life am i going to expect to get out of it?) or put that money towards a new tv of similar calibre. i went to my local magnolia store yesterday and the only tv there that caught my eye was the 65" x900b. the x950 was nice and the bezel was simpler, but $6k vs $3.7k isn't justifiable at this point.

any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

The only time I see full pixels is with a 4k source. With a 1080p source it is just scaling on a 4k panel not going pixel to pixel like your last 1080p set. I think +1 is scaled full screen.

adamd that makes complete sense and now I feel stupid for trusting a manual as full pixel on a 4k cannot be 1080.

Also when I was ordering my 950b my Sony rep after we completed the order told me that there may be free hardware update in the future and to keep checking the support website.

He was very vague and it made me think HDR update like Sony did with certain TVs to update hdmi to use 4k players

Doubt android IMHO

This is all speculation, just reading through last few pages of posts reminded me of this.

I really think the 950b's replacement would be a tv for long term ownership. The addition of HDR and the Android operating system would do it for me. Oled half life loss of brightness with burn in risk, among other issues, has me leaning to the Sony. I have seen the JS9000 and it simply looks too digital and not natural. It could also be BB's calibration running hot.

The problem is it may be quite a while for the 950b's replacement. Could the next model be an interim release and therfore out sooner than we think? I believe the 950 came out in the fall so not a typical Sony release time.

I really doubt the current 950b will see any hardware upgrades.

What is the excitement about Android OS?

I want a TV to display what sources are plugged into it; I would never use any of the apps or other superfluous "features" TV makers insist on adding.

So because you can't find use for the "superfluous" features they shouldn't offer it or try to improve what they are offering? I enjoy Netflix and the app will allow me to watch daredevil in 4k.

The Netflix quality through the app is terrible. Using the Netflix app through the fmp x10 device is so much better. Hence my general dislike.

Unfortunately I only know of the 4k media server and a ps4 and a 4k capable PC as the only way to get 4k netflix besides the TV itself. Maybe they fixed the quality with the most recent firmware update. Funnily the amazon app fares very very well qualtywise. Watched Bosch in it and was awesome.

Interesting. I've been watching Netflix on the Netflix TV app. I'll try it from the media player tonight.

Yeah please do try. I just fired it up and the quality seems improved. Was watching that documentary of animals that hunt with their speed. I had noticed the discrepancy most when watching Spartacus.

Will the x950b still be able to view content that is HDR? I am assuming we will, we just wont have the HDR experience.

Digital. You feel HDR will be a game changer? Reading that it will just add more colors. Allow more detail in clouds....... Lots of detail in clouds now.

I don't think it'll be a game changer. Rather a nice to have. My opinion of course.

Noted that the Sony on-line store now indicates that the x950B is no longer in backorder status and available for purchase. It does appear that Sony is going to continue production of this model, at least for now.

NetFlix is sharper/brighter from the X10. You can get one brand new sealed in box on eBay for $380-$430.

I picked up one local for $375 and one on eBay for $400. Both brand new.
