Great value and my universal remote works with this TV!
Contrary to some previous posts I've seen, you can actually use a universal remote with this TV. I setup my Logitech Harmony One and listed the 55UB8500 as my TV, updated my remote through USB, and it provides full functionality without having to use the smart remote.
This was a big concern since the smart remote sucks IMO and I had read reviews you had no choice but to use this.
Picked my TV up from Fry's in Fremont, CA for $1497 on sale last week which saved about $100 over Amazon.
Admittedly I am not blown away with standard HD material on this TV, since I had a 54" Panasonic Plasma and it has been a pain trying to get this TV to look as good. Right now I am running the Vivid picture setting with Real Cinema and Truemotion turned off, though this still needs some tweaking. I like vibrant colors and deep blacks, but not overly saturated faces which is the problem with Vivid.
I also registered at 3dblurayrental for their monthly service and have access now to all movies available in 3D. For the few I have at home cartoons are by far the best in-home viewing 3D experience. Ice Age 3 was amazing (the 3D, not the movie) while Star Trek Into Darkness looked like a pop-up book on this TV. Prometheus was much better but some of the foreground images were blurry and the 3D here is more to add depth (nothing in your face). I should get my first rental today - Gravity - so we'll see how this looks tonight. Avatar is next after this.
I do have some light bleed from the lower right when a blu-ray goes to black but so far I really only noticed this on the end credits.
The World Cup final looked amazing as has the 4k content on Youtube, limited though it may be.
So far great value for the money.
