@greg4811

Congrats on your purchase! Welcome!
@ChronoDetector

Not sure what the issue could be, maybe a handshake issue with your PCs graphics card. I doubt its a problem with your TV, if it's keeping the settings you have it put on each time. If it only does it on your PC's input, then it is probably an issue with the way it detects the TV.

How is this set far as Blu-Ray upscaled plus Blu-Ray 3D. Also going to use this set for PS4 gaming.....I was going to wait on the Vizio but it doesn't have 3D which is a deal breaker for me.

Great value and my universal remote works with this TV!

Contrary to some previous posts I've seen, you can actually use a universal remote with this TV. I setup my Logitech Harmony One and listed the 55UB8500 as my TV, updated my remote through USB, and it provides full functionality without having to use the smart remote.

This was a big concern since the smart remote sucks IMO and I had read reviews you had no choice but to use this.

Picked my TV up from Fry's in Fremont, CA for $1497 on sale last week which saved about $100 over Amazon.

Admittedly I am not blown away with standard HD material on this TV, since I had a 54" Panasonic Plasma and it has been a pain trying to get this TV to look as good. Right now I am running the Vivid picture setting with Real Cinema and Truemotion turned off, though this still needs some tweaking. I like vibrant colors and deep blacks, but not overly saturated faces which is the problem with Vivid.

I also registered at 3dblurayrental for their monthly service and have access now to all movies available in 3D. For the few I have at home cartoons are by far the best in-home viewing 3D experience. Ice Age 3 was amazing (the 3D, not the movie) while Star Trek Into Darkness looked like a pop-up book on this TV. Prometheus was much better but some of the foreground images were blurry and the 3D here is more to add depth (nothing in your face). I should get my first rental today - Gravity - so we'll see how this looks tonight. Avatar is next after this.

I do have some light bleed from the lower right when a blu-ray goes to black but so far I really only noticed this on the end credits.

The World Cup final looked amazing as has the 4k content on Youtube, limited though it may be.

So far great value for the money.

I know asking for plasma black levels from a non full array is too much,but how are the black levels in a dark environment?

Decent, not bad enough it is really distracting, but not great either. I'll just say it's "pretty good" for a backlit set.

I find significant improvement of the backlight bleeding when I set the TV to cinema + set a little bit of local dimming (Low). I put on Avengers on netflix, which has plenty of dark scenes to start.

I originally calibrated my TV to expert 1, but I may try calibrating to Cinema instead. Only difference is that I find that Warm1 is much better than Warm 2 in terms of White.

Some good news. This model can pass DTS through ARC without changing the region. Bad news is you need to access the service menu to enable it.

Tool Option 7 -> audio type DTS
EDID -> Start

My 55LW5600 could not pass DTS, so this is a nice bonus with the 4K.
NetBum likes this.

I just got home with the 49. I plugged it in and turned it on and all I get is the panel flashing from red to green white to black. Any suggestions as to a possible fix or does this just need to be exchanged? Thanks for any help.

Yeah, it shouldn't do that. Exchange it.

Saw this today as well,they also had the 55" for $1299. These prices put them directly in line with the P-series from Vizio. I am considering the UB8500 as an option instead of the P-series.

I bought a second F5300 plasma a few weeks back. I am considering returning it to take advantage of this opportunity. I am still interested in 3D, 4k and the Netflix. I do worry about image depth in 2D do to poor contrast ratio associated with IPS panels (black level performance).

I hadn't been to M.C for a long time, ~10 years, saw this deal and drove right down. I saw the 55" today on the web site for $100 more and was tempted to return the UB8500. I'm happy with it, i like the webOS feature. I think i prefer the design of the UB series over this LA series, so I think I'll keep it.

Not a huge fan of the Magic remote, no # buttons, no DVR/Blu ray controls, can't program the 4 colored buttons to do anything special, kind of sucks.

Also not a huge fan of the placement of the HDMI ports. Would it have killed LG to put them on the back facing down? I bought 270/90 degree adapters on monoprice so i can better hide the wires.

I can't stand magic remotes of any kind.

I use this one on the ub8500 once you figure out how to
use it correctly it's a dream.

What button do you press to bring up the Smart menu? I have this remote with my lw5600, but I can't access all of the features on my 8500.

I have a harmony one remote, it works well, haven't tested it out for playing blurays on my PS3/PS4 controlled via simplink. I use the harmony adapter for my PS3 in the past.

How's this remote with simplink devices?

I deregistered the smart remote and use the "premium" button on the smarter remote

Deadline for submission is 8-16-14
if you get a message saying your ineligible
just keep going through the process at the end
it should still finalize your request .

I went to look at this TV today and was impressed, then I read the reviews and have mixed feelings. My main use for a new TV will be sports viewing and gaming. I'm slighty worried about motion blurring after reading some reviews. Can anyone that owns this unit give me their thoughts on their sports viewing experiences so far??

My choices have narrowed to 3 units. This model which in Canada retails for $2299 (60') , the KDL-55w800b for $1600 and the KDL-60w850b which is also $2299.

I know that the Sony televisions have much less input lag then the LG but i'm not a competitive FPS player.

Thanks for any input!
