and I think it is a WCG Innolux panel. Does the Samsang have WCG? We should see four or five companies rebadgeing it like JVC, Panasonic, etc.

Interesting that TV companies bring to market a new size, mid year, no mention of the "new size" at CES. Seems they are following Apples logic...keep it a secrete. As Jobs would say, And just one more thing...

It would be nice if a HU9000 becomes available in 85"

Anthem D2v, McIntosh MC205, Elite PRO-70X5FD, Oppo BDP-103, Dish hopper, Richard Gray Power Company 400S, B&W Nautilus, JL audio Fathom f113, Harmony One, empty wallet ;>)

I had heard about this a couple of weeks ago.

We'll have to see how the PQ compares to the current 8550 Samsung lineup. It's potentially exciting to finally see a screen size like this for under $25K!

Well it will be far more than just 'rebadging it'. Whoever uses this panel will be putting their own electronics & dimming schemes in it. So we may see differing PQ coming from each manufacturer that chooses to use it.

Of course it's edge-lit. Samsung makes one FALD set. The S9. It's only $30k more than the 85" HU8550

Wow, that' s a bit high for the 78HU9000.

Just a note, on the street, the 84UB9800 LG is under $9999 a good bit..........

Was going to note the same thing.

Still, I'm excited that these larger sets are getting out of nosebleed territory.

$4000 by thanksgiving 2015. Says me.

Can you tell me where you are seeing the 78 for less then $7500? I am being told from where I bought it that they will price match (give me a refund) if I find it cheaper than $7500 but it has to be from a Samsung authorized retailer (store or web) and I would need to have the lower price in writing that I can show them.

Much appreciated!

Just a guess, but I'd be willing to bet it's not of the same quality as the Samsung.

You might recognizes the Samsung name, but the TCL is going to be Full Array panel with Dolby Vision capability, instead of Samsung's edge-lit panel.

http://www.avforums.com/article/ces-...-oled-tvs.9776

and probably for an $8999 street price.

FWIW, lot of small dealers are certified, but aren't listed on Samsung's website.

Don't think it has Local Dimming, just the Full Array part.

Well, he says he is. I don't have any reason to not take him at his word. However for the sake of the price matching you're trying to do, that's probably not going to work.

$9998 Australian dollar is about $9400 USD. I think I read by the time it gets to the US they expect a $8999 launch price. 4K prices are dropping fast. As volume picks up, they really don't cost much more than a 1080p panel to make.

That is what other dealers say when they want you to spend more on the exact same item........ How else can they get you to pay more for the same item ??

It is about to get interesting in the larger screen sizes for sure. I was just thinking Sharp had better start making some large 4K units or they are going to be pushed out of 4K, last I looked they only had a 70" 4K unit on the books. That's not good !

No clue what they are waiting for. During the 70, 80 and 90 inch time, they had the market on the big panels but now the other manufacturers are all using 84 and 85 ones kinda makes the sharp pointless. I guess with their financial issues we are lucky to see any TV's at all.

I suspect mid August we're likely to see Sharp announce it's 2014/2015 4K models to replace the lonely 70UD1 and I believe Sharp hinted at CES there may be more than one model or in larger sizes.

For now, it makes Sharp look like they've been sitting on RR Tracks waiting to get run over by competitors Big Ass 4K on the horizon.

Ironically it makes Sharp regressing to become what Vizio was and Vizio leaping if they bring the P/Ref series to market. Sharps only answer is to debut an Elite 4K PQ at Vizio prices as Elite Boutique premium pricing just isn't going to work in this market.

If the Elite R&D was paid for why abandon it?
Ken Ross, fafrd and dsinger like this.

Samsung 65F8000, 60D8000, 40HU6350, Panasonic 50E60 LCD's

Sharp's new lineup in Japan the UD20, still only has the 60" and 70" 4K panels. Although, they do have MothEye and hopefully will bring it over this year. I think Sharp is content supplying 60, 70 and 80" panels to Vizio and others. Their 80" and 90" panels are basically holdovers from last year and still 1080p. With all these new large format 4K panels coming from LG and Chinese suppliers, looks like they feel they can not compete on price.
