4k upscaling qestion

okay so I have a ps3 with a 4k reciver with a 4k tv.

my hdmi ccables are 10.2 high speed for 4k.

when I watch a movie it still says 1080p.

obiously the movie is not 4k but how do I know if the picture has been up scaled?

the guy at best buy said the display was just upscaled but hos said 4032x 20?? whatever 4k is I cant remember...

anyway how do I know if mine has been upscaled?

when I called best buy they said it will say 1080 unless I have an actuall 4k source but then how did the ones at best buy on display say 4k if they were just upscaled??

Like the rep said, if the feed is 1080p it will show in the info bar that it is a 1080p signal.
If it simply says "4k" in the upper corner and not 3840x2160p 24/30p then you are seeing a 4k demo feed.
If it were not being scaled you would likely see black bars on the left and right side of screen cropping the image to stay within the 1080p parameters.
Sony and Samsung both offer external hard drives loaded with 4k content since no hardware based delivery system exist at the moment (100gb+ blu ray disc with player capable of playing).
