LG 84UB9800 Thead

Looking for owners of this TV. Wondering if anyone who now owns this set can speak to the backlight dimming in dark scenes. Is it noticable? Does it bother you?

It has been reported on smaller sets, but has not been confirmed on the 84" set. Looking for user feedback.

Thanks

Can anyone comment?

Have looked at this set extensively in a relatively dark HT Store (medium darkness I guess - tinted windows and 1/3 the light of a box store - but certainly not lights-out like some home theaters).

I really loved the image when displaying "The Hobbit, Desolation of Smaug" in 3-D, and 2D; FIFA Soccer on Cable broadcast, and Netflix House of Cards in 4K - I watched the display for an hour in all these modes. I loved watching it personally, but don't yet own it. Contrast looked better than any Movie Theater I've gone to IMO (not a high bar), but certainly can't touch a Kuro. I only noticed mild light bleed near edges or bloom on total black scenes with text or things like the magic remoter cursor on the screen. But during normal footage, I was never aware of it. Off angle viewing was about the best in the store for LED/LCD. The thing is a mirror though in dark scenes if you can't control light on the wall behind you as you sit in front of this. Gets some good blinds on those windows directly opposite the screen behind you if you are viewing in the daytime. (Whatever happened to motheye?). 3D was stunning, and the best I have seen, bar none. I couldn't stop grinning watching The LOTR, better than when I watched in IMAX 3-D.

I am eager to spend more time with the screen, and will take some blu-rays into the store myself to check out more. I would like to take a blu ray or USB of hockey in as well to really check out its motion handling. Soccer can't touch hockey for speed of that puck.

I hope a member buys one soon to get more info out here, or maybe a reviewer like Scott W. will get his hands on one. Would love to see a professional review on these since they are one of the more "affordable" screens at this size in UHD.

Looking at this one as well. Price has dropped about 5k since I last looked at it only 1 month ago!

Just ordered a few days ago. The TV is still in transit. I hope this thread is more active.

Mine arrived yesterday. It is a free upgrade to a DOA 84LM9600 that I received 10 days ago and kept for three days. May it's my idea but the PQ seems quite improved. Sound system is also better, although I use my HT system instead. Only issue I now have with the set is it does not see my Synology Diskstation in my home network and I'll need to copy files to an HD in order to view them with LG's viewer (actually doing it now lol). Any suggestions for this issue?
