Part of monitor dead, trying to find a workaround

Hey guys, recently I dropped water on my monitor (yeah, I'm stupid ) and now I have a big ball of dead pixels or whatever it's called. The monitor is an old Samsung T220, max res. 1680x1050, I'm trying with DVI and VGA cables.

I've been trying to set a lower resolution, so I get black borders on the left/right side, then moving the screen to the left, but when I try it the black border just 'eat' the desktop area... Is there any way I can do this?
