This for the 75x850c
Thanks. I have the 55x850c, which I'm guessing is the same as yours except for the smaller screen.

Check the X850C FAQ 3D tab for a list of glasses supported by the 850C series.

The Xpand are well liked by several (including me), my wife's favourite are the Sony. There have been some issues reported with Samsung 5150 glasses.

Thanks I read about some people having issues with the Samsung 5150's. I'll look into the 850c FAQ and also the Xpand.

New Sony Owner Back at THE FORUM

Well, I am back at the Forum with the 49" X850C... $799 at Fry's in California. My old Mitsubishi has finally died. Small format fits. Have to say I am very happy... the 1080 p model was about $599. I'll be asking some basic questions... like how do you program those little colored buttons. I also have this hooked up to Gigabit (yes gigabit) fiber... so what is the best way to stream 4K? I have an Amazon Prime account.... guess I start there.

PS Upscaling seem fine to me.... I also set it to Vivid for the Holiday season.

PPS Cannot seem to get registered at Amazon Prime... can't get to the receive code screen?

The largest panel I have space for is about 50", so I'd snag the 49" 830C in a heartbeat if the funds aligned with the stars.
Just got this puppy if you have any questions.... looks good to me.

Thanks eventually got it to work after making password 6 characters for a couple minutes.

Any idea where the big manual is supposed to be? Heard there was a 200p manual?

Once you've had some time with it, do you care to comment on how it performs in bright vs dark environments? Also, can you comment on how DVDs look when upscaled? I still have a lot of content on DVD, and I'm genuinely curious how soft/noisy they will look on a 4K screen. Thanks in advance!

I think the upscaling looks pretty good. One of my hobbies is astrophotography, so have studied in detail imaging:

I have been impressed with the scaling. For me I look for edge enhancement artifacts and also how fine hair on the head is rendered....

Glad that you are satisfied with the panel and the scaling the processor provides. I MIGHT be able to fit the 49" version in my space, and based on the seating distance, I THINK that DVDs would look fine upscaled, but it's nice to hear from someone that has seen the product in action.

I'll try to run a couple DVDs and BlueRays through tonight. I have a good Oppo player so the output will be good for starters. We looked at one BlueRay.

We squeezed it into the cabinet left over from an older CRT/TV. My wife had the idea of having at a very slight angle which gave us the 5mm needed to get it inside. We are sitting only 6-7' away... with 1080p I could see all the defects.... this looks like a photo. No screendooring.

BTW I got Error 814 on the Amazon Prime App... Amazon is debugging.

BTW2 I think I am going to get a new Harmony remote... this is beyond my 880's capabilities. Am looking at the Logitech Harmony Home Control, which I think will also integrate with my Insteon toys.

Looks good to me. I ran two jazz DVD and BRs through. I have an Oppo 103 then into a Yamaha I believe RX-A720 then to the Sony. This gets me the multichannel sound. I think the Oppo output via the Yamaha to the Sony is a passthrough.

I guess you could run HDMI to the Sony and optical back down to the Yamaha, but frankly the images look fine and I am not sure the Sony will do the sound justice. Have Vienna Acoustics for speakers.

Would appreciate any senior member's comments on the right way to wire these components. Looks like there may be a video vs audio trade off (as I said look and sounds very good as is).

Merry Xmas to all

Thank you for the follow up. Sony products have been solid for me in the past. I may pick up an 830 soon, but I will wait to see what CES 2016 brings more than likely.

Price was way down for this 2015 model.

Have a nice Xmas. Only thing I have not quite figured out is how to redirect the 4D audio from Netflix or Amazon back into my speakers. Seems like it is stuck in the TV.... have messed with the settings a lot. Going to look at a movie tonight and see if I can figure it out.

Have a nice Xmas. Only thing I have not quite figured out is how to get some on the Yamaha Rx-A720 input commands into my new Harmony Hub. Used to work well with my 880. Need to program the InputNetRadio command into the start-up sequence. Not there in Harmony, though on the Remote.

Note that if you want to add "Input" commands to Harmony activity start-up sequences, it can be a little tricky.

I have the older 700-series, and in the Activity settings options, when you select the Command list to see a list of available commands to add during startup from a device, all commands that start with "input" are filtered out and you won't see them in the command list for that device.

I re-learned the input commands to my remote, but named them so the filter didn't see them (called them "nputHMDI1" etc.) and then could add them to the startup sequence. The software on the Harmony Hub may not have that same limitation, but wanted to let you know just in case, as it's a b*tch to figure out why the input commands aren't there on the command list if you don't know why.

Problem was solved by filing a support ticket with Logitech and they programmed the remote remotely! Works like a charm.

I have 3 880s, very experienced and tried for two days to get it to work with this device... sorta worked and then failed. I did not have the energy to keep trying and gave up. I thought it was time to upgrade. It might have worked with the help of support, but was beyond me.

BTW, I am still happy with the TV. I still need to learn about the Android apps but notices they have PLOS, which also runs on my WD storage device. have to see if I can get them to work together.

I can reaffirm the issues with the samsung 5150 glasses. I have 4 of them. 2 from Ebay which were new and sealed with the stickers still on the leneses and 2 from amazon new also. The 2 from ebay did not sync with the tv while the 2 from amazon did.

Any of them...all are enabled. Set HDMI signal format to Enhanced for that input.

More info from the FAQ in my sig - (take a look at it if you haven't, distilled info from users in X850C threads on this forum):

"HDMI Signal Format (menu path: Home>Settings>External Inputs>HDMI Signal Format) Choices: Standard, Enhanced

Usually leave this on Standard. Enhanced mode setting should be used for sources that support it, as the connected device needs to know how to interpret and use the enhanced mode connection. There are a lot of legacy devices that may have issues when this Enhanced mode is enabled as it changes the EDID data in the TV to enable enhanced support. Kind of a YMMV situation - your non-Enhanced mode capable devices may play fine w/the HDMI port set to Enhanced, or they might not.

The Enhanced setting on the TV advertises the following additional available timings to the connected source device:

4K(50, 60Hz): YCbCr 4:4:4/8 bit, YCbCr 4:2:2 /8bit/10bit/12bit, YCbCr 4:2:0 / 10bit or RGB signal.

2.0 HDMI cable required: Your HDMI cable must meet the HDMI 2.0 spec for Enhanced mode, 18Gbps or higher throughput.

What are the best settings for games on this TV from an Xbox one or PS4? It seems like it is choppier than my last Sony LCD (W900A) -- I have it set to game mode with motion enhancements OFF and Cine modes OFF. Is there something else I can do to make the screen video seem less choppy?

Not sure why it is choppy. My 850C is using game mode with my XBONe and is being sent 1080P60. It is not choppy at all.

Jacob:

Some suggestions below that you can try, from the first tab of the X850C FAQ in my sig, provided by coltsbro84.

As I suggested previously, the reading the X850C FAQ should help you to maximize the enjoyment of your TV...take a look.

"Can I reduce the input lag more through changes in Settings?
[coltsbro84]"

"[Evidently yes, you can.]
I have great news for everyone!

For those who play video games or want as little input lag as possible, I successfully cut the input lag down to a constant 16ms!

Settings and Findings are here:

I wanted to better test the lag input on my Sony x850c since I noticed a slight delay when playing some games. Here's what I found. On game mode, enabling black adjust, contrast enhancer, live color, or reality creation effect lag input. First two images show how I was able to achieve a constant 15ms - 16ms input lag on the x850c. My settings are as follows: turn everything off in game mode, this includes the aforementioned settings. Go to external inputs > hdmi signal format > turn on enhanced format. Then go to picture & display > dynamic range > change to full. Next, do this, unlock developer options >hdmi optimization > change to best framerate. The first two show a constant 15ms to 16ms input lag. Last two images show the input lag on game mode, but having everything turned on in the settings except for motionflow. Lag was anywhere from 50ms to 32ms.

not for nothing but this test wasn't properly done with a crt as a control, but instead an lcd from a laptop, so his input lag is exaggerated by at least 20ms
