issue with Sony Bravia

Hi all; i have a Sony Bravia XBR LCD i bought about 5-6 years ago.

A problem with the TV has begun to arise; every time i turn the TV on, the picture is messed up, and lasts that way for 5-10 minutes until it clears up. There is flickering black lines and boxes, along with ghosting/distortion.

can anyone guess what is going bad, and if it is worth it to fix, if possible? What would the approximate costs be?

I am sort of hoping it goes dead, so then i have an excuse to buy a 4k TV or a 1080p OLED.

I am attaching an image to better express the issue:

That looks like an XBR 6. Can you post more images of the issue with solid color content like a test screen?

hi...sorry for the very delayed response, i just did not take the time to get back.

Well, here is another picture. the color on the lower left corner is what should be seen on the entire screen. After about 20 minutes the TV will correct itself. However, you can see how terrible it is prior that. A lot of very dark image, spaces with no image, and ghosting.
