For the past few months I've been having a weird problem with my 65JS9500.
When I turn the tv on, after about 5 seconds the picture and sound will turn off, but the tv remains on. It doesn't matter which input the tv is on, this happens.
Pressing the source button on the remote will bring up the input bar and I just select press enter to select the current source and the picture and sound returns.
If I press the source button before the picture turns off, the input bar will show, and when the picture turns off, the input bar remains on.
I've tried this on 4 different inputs (3 HDMI and 1 component) and this happens with each.
To be honest, I don't know if this is an issue with my harmony elite remote sending an extra command which is turning off the picture.
Has anybody else experienced something like this?
I should add that the firmware is 1461, and for the last few weeks when I've tried checking for new firmware, it says that I have the most recent.

You could try turning the tv on with the Samsung remote or by pushing the joystick power on button on the back of the set to see if the harmony remote is the culprit.

Rogu Ultra

For those that can't wait for the possible/future HDR capable Netflix app on the Samsung JS9500, I have found a reasonably priced outboard component that works well (with one primary limitation).

The Rogu Ultra (approx $130) has a huge number of streaming apps that includes Netflix and Amazon. The Ultra supports UHD HDR for both with excellent video results. Like the Samsung K8500 it provides DD+ audio for HDMI input to the receiver. However, it's alternative optical audio provides only DD 5.1 to the receiver; and if HDMI input to the Samsung is sent via ARC or optical to the receiver, it is only DD 5.1. Therefore, I've removed the optical output and am using DD 5.1 from the Samsung to my Denon. One positive fact is, that unlike the K8500, I haven't seen any lip sync issues. Plus, it has a very fast, simple GUI.

Picked up Roku Ultra - Friday. Saved a few bucks with samsung pay and company discount.

It just showed up in the am one morning in a shipping tub.

One another note, I got my 7200WA back from service with new digital board, whatever this means

Lastly , my AC Infinity fans for my OCB came in, as well as a T9 17" reciever fan cooler that sits atop the Denon 7200WA.

Time to cool down some things. Now with my luck , the shield will finally get amazon video in the next month or so.....then the roku becomes less useful.

I am officially done with smart hub on samsung for the forseeable future. Prefer the higher end audio streams anyways.

Things seem to be getting back to normal after hurricane matthew. Talk about bad timing, All considered, I am blessed to have been spared the destruction that the last hurricane brought through North Carolina.

My SVS SB13 Ultras arrived the week my AVR crapped out.

I did manage to update latest firmware via USB on JS9500

Does anyone know if HDR is still working when I switch this TV to game mode?

Yes it does - don't forget to enable UHD Color on that input or the Xbox One S will report that the TV cannot do HDR10.

Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizons 3 look really great with it (especially Forza - very realistic lighting while driving through the rain forest just adds a new level of immersion...)

I tried the Sling app on the Apple TV and I was completely unimpressed. The stream quality is pretty bad compared to other services like Hulu/Netflix. As for a native Samsung app - not sure it'd matter. Definitely not better quality than cable - and due to that I cancelled my account before the 7 day trial was up.

I dont think its that bad - i am trying right now also and use my Macbook to stream to an older apple tv and havent seen a glitch. I heard Roku and other devices it is even better. However the EPG is non existent so that may need to improve to get users to like it. Otherwise i think its a great alternative if you love live-tv.

Better then cable..No, acceptable replacement Yes.

now the service is another thing there has been many moments where streams don't work (usually on premiers of Walking Dead...MNF ETC....) seems to have gotten a lot better but still experience little hiccups here and there.

Thank god they did an "interface overhaul" the old interface was god awful.

oh and BTW there customer service is complete crap!

I also had the same issue.
I fixed it by unplugging the tv for 15 minutes and removing all the hdmi cables. After 15 minutes i reconnected all the hdmi cables and plugged the power cord back in. I haven't had any problems since. Been working great for 3 weeks now.

Is there a way to tell if the TV is in "HDR" mode (i.e. receiving and displaying HDR content)? After hooking up a K8500 UHD player to the TV, I was wondering if there's an easy way to check whether HDR is working or not (easier than switching back and forth between UHD and Blu-Ray discs, trying to visually discern the difference).

Any device on HDMI that you want HDR from needs to have UHD Color enabled for that input. Otherwise, HDR doesn't seem to be enabled. So if in doubt - make sure you do that first.

How do I know this? If you have an Xbox One S - in the settings there's a section that tells you your TVs capabilities. It told me HDR10 was not supported until I did this.

On the 8500, I believe if you bring up the Info menu for the disc, it'll show you HDR somewhere on the banner that pops up. The device is also rather vocal with you if you aren't setup properly for HDR or even 4K resolution. It displays a screen telling you something about how you need a 4K/HDR TV in order to get the best benefit from the disc you're playing. It shows this once on startup.

The 2016 series for Samsung have a little HDR flag that shows when HDR content is played. It was rumored at one point this would be back ported to the 2015 series, but at this point I wouldn't hold my breath...

Easiest way to tell if HDR is currently being displayed on the display is to use the Samsung remote and bring up menu/picture. If you are watching HDR, the contrast will have shifted to "100" and backlight to "20". When you finish with the HDR input, they will shift back to the normal settings.

well.. today my 78" JS9590 is being downgraded to second class status, as I make way for the 75" Sony Z9D. The Sammy will now get moved to our secondary upstairs living room. It will become dads personally TV I suppose, free of toddler fingerprints and bravo reality shows from the girlfriend.

Here it is placed on a BDi OLA stand flanked by Monitor Audio Silver 10's in white laquer. With the grills off the silver cones work so well with the aluminum frame of the JS. Too bad I can't run them without grills too often as they become toddler magnets.

Better than the Member who's toddler thought the TV looked better with the frying pan banged into it. Made it look like a spider web!
Man.. you don't want to see it with the picture turned off. And I just cleaned it two days ago!

I still need to fix the idiotic job the previous owners did installing the wall outlet so high! Look even a 78" set doesn't cover it. Who mounts their TVs that high unless you have a fireplace?

Initial impressions of my JS9500 to Z9D transition... man the Z9D sure does do a better job with blooming. Almost OLED levels of contrast. Android TV blows though. They still haven't fixed it so Netflix can output 5.1 audio, shameful on a flagship set. Then again, us JS9500 owners still don't have HDR support on our Netflix app! The brightness on the Z9D is truly insane.. whites are chlorox level!

I love that my biggest problem in life right now is if I should watch the JS9500, Z9D, or OLED 6CP. It's a rough man. I'm still partial to the OLED. I hope Z9D is last FALD set I have to buy.. it seems we are getting closer to seeing a 75" or better OLED at the 10k mark.

IMHO a blanket or not... any child should never be allowed within 5 feet of a large flat screen TV for their safety 1st & 2nd for your 5 to 20 grand investment.

There have been numerous accounts of kids hurt when the TV suddenly tips over and injures them. Although the stand on my quite large UN78JS9500 is more robust than most it still is a real hazard.

My 2nd TV listed in my sig has the WORST tip over hazard stand I have ever seen & a real death threat to a child. I can barely touch the top of the Sony and it will wobble for 10 seconds.

I hope you follow my advice aforementioned as I wish no accidents. We all know what kids can get themselves into.

Is the blooming you notice on the JS9500 on-axis or off? On-axis, I actually don't see any blooming on my set (except maybe subtitles or a logo on black background). Off-axis, yeah, blooms like crazy and lots of color shift.

And brighter than JS9500? That's hard to imagine, my eyes hurt just thinking about it Have you had both sets calibrated btw, or are you going by general settings?

Good point, forgot about that. I also forget, if you try changing backlight setting, does it kick it out of HDR mode (or does it not allow you to change it)?
