Richard
I ended up using the adapters/spacers because the KS8000 has a very slight curve to the back. What gets me is how the manual says to use M8 screws in 43-45mm length. Everywhere I looked M8 screws only come in 40mm or 50mm, not 43-45mm. I bought 50mm and had to use washers to compensate for the length to hole depth.

THE MASTERS IN 4K

Not as razor-sharp as typical UHD demo footage, but very impressive nontheless. Streaming over a 100Mbps connection via the app on a UN55JS8500.

Record all your picture settings on paper, then select the factory default reset.

If this doesn't help you probably have a warranty issue.

I essentially made that same comment to someone else.

It looks really good. The detail in the picture is amazing.

New 55JS8500 Owner

Greetings all. Thought I'd chime in for others on the fence about buying this TV before supply dries up. I've owned Panasonic plasmas and Sony and Samsung CRT's, never finding LCD's acceptable. For perspective, I'm a 40 year old, lower working class laborer. I primarily watch movies and sports.

I bought the Samsung 55JS8500 early March from Best Buy for $1497. Compared to my 2012 Panasonic ST50, the JS8500 is an improvement in every way. The color, clarity, motion handling and overall experience is cinema worthy. Years of chasing a perfect black level were wasted as I now realize the white level is just as important. No more sitting in the dark with the curtains closed. I can finally enjoy TV during the day again. Even viewing an OLED TV brings me back to that dull, dark plasma experience I'm done with for now.

I find wide color gamut and high dynamic range bring the LCD experience to a new level. Samsung colors pop and highlights shine more than current Vizio or LG TV's and the clarity betters Sony's graininess to my eyes. White moonlight shines through window panes and street lights glow bright orange. The gradient of colors in an outdoor mountain scene filled with flowers, trees, grass, snow, and sunlight is remarkable. I watch around 100 movies at the Carmike each year. Watching this set at home provides the closet viewing experience I've had to a movie theatre.

I sat on the fence myself for two years researching 4K TV's on the internet and in person. I think 4K, HDR10, quantum dots, and quality motion processing make LCD a worthy upgrade to plasma. Thanks to this forum and thousands of pages information contained herein on so many TV models, I'm satisfied my hard earned money's well spent.

I keep my backlight at around 7 and that makes it invisible during the day or when theres natural light but at night it can be more apparent.

With Smart LED enabled its practically gone though. So normally id say problem solved but I noticed that when watching a program when scenes change there will occasionally be a flicker. Its typically very slight but its there (not always). Is that just the nature of this feature? Is that the screen dimming suddenly I guess?

I mainly got this set for watching movies on blu ray and the flicker doesn't happen much at all with Smart LED while watching those. The problem is that with certain blu rays that have a 2.4:1 aspect ratio you'll occasionally see the area closest to the letter bars getting bright and then dim again, bright and then dim again. Hell I can even pause it and it'll still do it at times. It doesn't do this on all 2.4:1 films. Ive noticed it on 2001, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises, Halloween II (original), Raiders of the Lost Ark and Transformers. That might sound like a lot but I watch a lot of movies and these are the only ones ive noticed it on. If i turn off Smart LED it stops... but then I have that clouding in the corner that annoys me more than it should. Sorry this is so long.
Mine does this too. Some blu Rays do it And some do not. I could be wrong but I only noticed this after the 1443 update. If you don't mind a bias light, it can help with clouding and the black letterbox flickering. Hopefully this can be fixed with a firmware update.

So I'm a proud new owner of a 65" js8500. I have a couple of questions.

1) The "MENU/123" button does not light up when the other buttons light up. It looks like it should. Is this broken and I need to contact Samsung?

2) I did the adjustments suggested by prime 19. If I want to improve on this what equipment do I need to buy? Also, there were some adjustments I couldn't find or make. Is there a setting to access these?

3) Any other suggestions to maximize my enjoyment of this set?

4) What types of defects should I look for or what should I do to make sure my set is 100%?

So I rented The Hateful Eight last night hoping for a beautiful bluray movie in glorious 65mm Ultra Panavision with my 55" 8500. And what do I get? Great 2.76:1 aspect ratio with upper and lower letterboxes constantly flashing from light to dark. I am getting so fed up with the picture on this TV and the constant flashing. No matter what the smart led and cinema black settings are!!!!!!!!!! I'm really sorry I invested the money in this piece of crap! In fact my 6 year old Panasonic plasma is now going to become my main tv again and the Samsung is going in the bedroom just to watch satellite tv.

I have the same issue. Letterbox movies are virtually unwatchable with smart led and cinema black on. I have to turn them both off to watch blurays. Very poorly designed tv.

I thought the same thing Matrix 123 stated. It seems like after the latest update 1443 the flickering and cloudiness during dark scenes got worse. Is there a way to delete the 1443 update to see if it is true and/or a factory reset. Thanks

I doubt it. Could have easily been fixed by now. The tv is already been on the market for a year!

I believe it can be fixed because my 55f7100 had letterbox issues and they were fixed with an update in 2014. Whether they do or not is up in the air.

My experiences with this TV is essentially opposite of yours. It is without doubt the best TV I have ever owned and definitely worth the money I spent on it. I realize it isn't perfect, but it is head and shoulders better than anything else I've owned. I should say that our tastes are obviously different because I never liked any plasma TVs because the picture always looked a bit dull to me. I have the same reaction to OLED TVs (But they are so close to being perfect I may need to try one in a year or so).

I'm not doubting what you're seeing, but I watch about 4 movies a week (most of them letterbox) on this TV (55" JS8500) and have yet to see what you're describing. I'd add Hateful 8 to my Netflix queue to see if that changes my mind, but I don't want to go looking for trouble. And I sometimes find Tarintino hard to enjoy.

I have to agree with all the positive posts I have read concerning this TV...I was a plasma owner...8th.gen Kuro (60in)... Panasonic VT30 65inch...and the Samsung outshines them both.Every time my wife and I sit down to watch TV,we are constantly blown away by the PQ..
I,too, was reluctant to pull the trigger on an edge lit LED,and now I am sorry I did not do it sooner...
Also,my thanks to those posters who warned us all about the heartaches produced by the latest update.I was able to change my setting fron auto update just in time. And I have to say,in all of my years I have never been disappointed by any posters in any thread I

I guess its my fault for not doing more research into this tv before I bought it. Had I known edge lit tv's have not been perfected and have these obvious issues I would have looked for a good LCD tv instead or just bought a good oled tv or just wait till they have cleaned up issues like mine.

All the research in the world does not guarantee the TV that you buy
will not be problem free.....believe me when I say,I was back and forth over plasma vs. edge-lit LEDS,but took a chance and came up a winner. The fact that I bought it from a company in Va. that had a 60 day return policy eased my decision....after three weeks,I sold the Kuro to greatly offset the purchase price of the Sammy....have not looked back once.

I'm going to call Samsung this week and complain about my purchase of this thing and see if I can get it replaced with a different model that doesn't have this issue. After all I payed premium money for a sub par tv.
