What are you going to use if for, what devices are you planning to hook up to it? What are your viewing angles going to be like? Do you have any preferences/priorities to consider?
In 65" your budget gives you access to the flagship TVs this year. The best of which is probably the Samsung 65JS9500. Full FALD with a rumored 150 zones plus future proofing with the one connect box.
Two other options worth considering are the Sony 65X930C and the Panasonic 65CX850. The big problem with the Panasonic if you are in the US is that they only sell direct and through one retailer on the east coast.
In 75" you are looking at the Samsung 75JU7100 and the Sony 75X850C.
So, I would say the first thing you need to do is decide if you would rather have a flagship 65" TV or a mid-range 75" TV.
I would probably lean towards a 75" in your spot. I am 11' from my TV and I have a 75". That being said, I would have hard time choosing between size and quality.
As for wall mount, it depends what kind you want. Fixed, tilting, full motion.
I didn't think I would get a curved tv either. I did though. I thought the curve was gimmicky. And who knows, it just might be. But after I sat in front of the tv I eventually purchased, I noticed I wasn't noticing the curve as time went by. I was immersed in the picture and the quality of what the tv was providing my experience. I purchased the 65" JS9000 and the curve is no longer there for me. I don't even notice it, but I still see the same great picture that popped out at me in the store. It is a miracle. It's been healed of it's crook (GRIN). As I'm watching movies, tv shows, videos, etc. I just see great 4K quality. If you can handle a $5 K budget, you may want to at least take a look at the Samsung JS9500. Sir, that tv really proves to be a high quality exceptional offering. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Samsung fan boy. Like a lot of people, I've owned Sony, Panasonic, LG, etc. I think all of us just want the best in terms of what we can afford. I don't know if you've seen it yet or not. But if you can afford to spend a good 45 minutes to an hour in front of the JS 9500 to see if the curve disappears for you too, you just may want to just look at it and give it a chance. After all, what do you have to lose? Picture wise, it was the best that I've seen outside of the Sony 75X940C, which IMO is the best picture out there from 75" and under, beyond a doubt. But, it is way way outside of my price range. I loved the JS 9500 too. It came in second place for me. I just couldn't afford it either. So the #3 in line of my favorites won the day, the JS9000 65" and I'm very happy with it. Curve? What curve? Just pure quality picture is all I see!
Either way, no matter what you decide. I think you'll be happy with whatever you eventually decide to go with. I think you are a very wise A/V guy.
EDIT: Flat panel wise, if you can go up to about $2400, this is one that has one very nice sharp accurate picture (4K UHD JU7100 Series Smart TV - 65” Class (64.5” Diag.)). I tried it out, and really loved it's great crystal clear color and dynamic punch, but in the end I wanted the Nano Crystal technology. And that led me to the JS9000 eventually.
You won't regret going with the 75" at all. Once you get used to it the 65" just seems small.
Costco has the 80" Vizio M for about $3600 right now and comes with an additional year warranty also. Good luck with your decision.
Was at best buy with the wife.. she wants me to get the VIZIO M70-C3 70-Inch, one because she likes the 70"; she thinks the 65" might be tad small but she thinks the 75" would be too big; She thinks the 75" is to wide and doesn't look like; plus she likes the price of the VIZIO M70-C3 70-Inch.. might have togo with this one now to make the wife happy
You should get the Vizio then. A happy wife makes a happy life.
All kidding aside the 70” Vizio is an exceptional TV and its price is just unbeatable.
It offers excellent FALD, excellent motion interpolation controls, exceptional input lag, excellent computer connectivity(4K @ 60 FPS and 1080p @ 120 FPS), and it has good colors for the currently available content after a few simple adjustments. It isn't as future proof as the Samsung but then again the Samsung JU7100 isn't completely future proof either.
I think I'm getting that one now.. the price of 1800 is just awesome. since i was going to spend 4500 on the samsung 75".... If i get the vizio too i'll upgrade a lot sooner probably in 3-4 years vs if i get the samsung i'll have to hold off 5-8 years
I certainly do NOT want to encourage you to act contrary to what you and your wife have plans on doing!!!!! Having said that, the point I was going to make was, the Samsung line is designed so you upgrade hardware after purchase rather than buying a new tv every couple of years. But, you probably already knew that.
The advantage of this would be that a family wouldn't theoretically have to keep replacing tv's as newer technology comes out. So, a $3400 tv purchased now may indeed save a person big money in the future. An upgrade might for example cost $400 as opposed to the purchasing a tv with some of the the latest and greatest technology for $2000. This is one reason why so many people like the current Samsung offerings.
I'd personally rather have the Vizio M over the Samsung 7100 and save money while doing that which I could then put towards an actual better TV in a couple years *cough* OLED *cough* rather than having what will surely be a mediocre TV in a few years but may (key word is may as who knows how useful it is going to be in a couple years) have the ability to upgrade to some newer tech via the connect box jazz. The other benefit is the M probably has a better image than the 7100 as it is because of the fald system. Black level and contrast ratio are king and are the most important aspect to how good an image looks.
Yeah I consider the JS but i don't think i need a curved tV... Im pretty open yet to what i'll buy i still have a few weeks to decide ( basement is still being finished)... I'm open to up to 5k but id be happy spending half that or less = ]
If you have an opportunity, you may want to check out the flat screen Samsung JU7100. It comes in 75", 65", and 60" screen sizes. It is a very nice line. I truly do not know anything about the Vizio line, and I do believe they make a great tv for the price. I wish you and your family well, as you shop for your next tv.
The next step up from the M70 would be the Samsung 75ju6500. Although it is larger by 5" it is also almost twice as much in cost. You said your wife likes the 70" size versus the 75" and you are considering that as well and you also said that your budget is $2000 to $5000 but you would like to be at $2000 so maybe your budget is really around $2000 (all of this points you to the M70).
I think Yeto sums it up nicely. I'm still learning as well, but from what I have read, been told, and seen in person, the M series (60in+) is a great set for that price range.
Ok thank you....I don't even understand the whole 2.2 hdcp or if i even need it for streaming via apple tv .. my AVR isn't 2.2 but I'm not running the video through the AVR
I was orginally considering getting the VIZIO M to hold me over for a few years, but maybe i just get the JS9500 which would probably hold me over for 10 years
I'm not sure what a better long term option is at this point
