Samsung 2016 SUHD Series TVs

I see samsung has only released information on 1 of their new top line SUHD TVs. The KS9500. Seems to be no information in the rest of the 2016 SUHD line. Hopefully we will see what else Samsung has to offer this year shortly. I have a 50" HU8550, looking to upgrade to a new 2016 SUHD model. I was just getting something started for the 2016 SUHD TVs. Haven't seen much talk about them. Interesting they will all be UHD Premium Certified. Samsung has decided not to go with Dolby Vision. Not overly specific on the specs, aside from the majir details.

I hope they finally give up on the curved TVs. They make great TVs but some people just don't want a curved TV. They gave us more choices by the end of last year. I hope they start out this year with some high end flat screens along with the curved TVs. More choices is always better.

If you have a 2015 Vizio M-series TV you should try these settings first.

Agreed. To get all the top features you have to go with the curve. Give me that same tv with a flat screen. Anxious to see what/when they release info on rest of SUHD line this year. The IoT integration and universal remote look intersting. Will be interesting to see how much better the picture is on these than last years SUHD models.

Ya, it'll be interesting what they will upgrade last years models to. I believe they said the IoT integration will be a usb device plugged into the TV.

Yeah I heard that in the keynote as well but they sort of said "for the 2016 models". Perhaps it only work with the new Tizen OS.

When do we think we will hear more about the rest of the SUHD line this year? Samsung was very light on info this year.

You will as Tizen will be upgraded and 2016 TVS do not have IOT built in they require a USB stick too 2017 TV's will have it integrated.

I gathered they would but I guess these days you just never know. It would be silly of them not too.

I'm in the same boat as OP. I have a 50HU8550. looking to get and HDR set. Have we heard from Scott Wilkinsins yet on his thoughts and first impressions of what he saw during the show? Im hoping we get some sort of breakdown of what people saw for each tv company.

So if the FALD K9800 which supposedly was discussed/mentioned but not showcased at CES is going to happen, how/when will we get some info on it?

What I'd like to know is if we can expect the prices on this year's models to drop as quickly as last year's models did? I know nobody knows this yet.

Last year, for example, the 55" JS8500 was launched the first week of April for $3,000, and within 3 weeks, dropped $500, and within 3 more weeks, dropped another $500, to level off where it has been most of the year. So the set dropped $1,000 within the first month-and-a-half, and hasn't changed since, other than a couple holiday sales. It's still the same price right now as it was early last may, so by May of last year it was as cheap as it was going to get. The 48" followed a similar pattern.

I'm in need of a new set, and am currently contemplating if I want to wait for the 2016 models to hit. If the prices level out again quickly, then I wouldn't mind waiting since that could possibly get me a new 2016 set for about the same price as the 2015 set is currently, just by waiting until April/May. Do the Samsung sets usually drop in price so quickly and level off like last year? If the new sets launch expensive and drop slowly this year, it might make more sense for me to go with last year's model instead of waiting half the year.

Of course it would also help if we actually knew what models are coming out in what sizes with what specs. Samsung loves to keep us all in the dark.

As far as we know is Vizio the only one making 50 inch FALD sets? No chance of getting a FALD Samung in 50 inches anytime soon I guess?

This NIT war going on now has me worried about the uniformity of the 2016 panels, too. Samsung panels are not exactly known for outstanding uniformity. None of these companies are when edge-lit LEDs are used. So considering how much brighter the Samsung sets will be this year (1000 nits, which is double the brightness of last year), and how much thinner the bezel will be, I'm wondering if the clouding and flashlighting is going to get even worse this year instead of better. Typically, it's not uncommon to have to go through at least a couple sets before you end up with one that is acceptable. I went through that with my older Samsungs, and it's clear that hasn't changed with the 2015 sets. Their image quality is outstanding for sure, but the combination of a high NIT rating and ultra-thin bezel has me worried.

What has me worried is that those doing the UHDP certification are obviously letting Samsung and other get away with some sort of dynamic contrast numbers. Edge-lit sets are not doing 1000 nits and .05 nits anywhere near the same area of the screen at the same time. Very disappointing. The UHDP spec is meaningless and DOA.
