Daredevil HDR - Samsung 8500

Just curious if anyone has watched season 2 of DD. From what I understood, this should be in HDR but my Samsung 8500 doesn't seem to be making the expected changes (Backlight 20) that it does when watching HDR content on Amazon. Anyone else notice this?

Are you actually watching the UHD/ 4k Version? Is your internet bandwidth high enough?

I am watching the 4k version and I checked and it is streaming in 4k resolution. Amazon Prime has no problem streaming 4k HDR either.

I see a lot of chatter on whether HDR10 is "just as good" or better or worse than Dolby Vision in PQ. It seems like a moot point, however, if what you want to watch is not available in one or the other. It will be interesting to see if this turns into actual pick-and-choose-right-or-you-don't-get-to-see-it format war.

What are the changes made when watching HDR content on the Samsung 8500?
Is there a way to know for sure that I'm watching HDR content?

There's supposed to be a little "HDR" icon that shows up on content with HDR. Looks like
per Netflix support: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/42384

I don't think Amazon has any indication while watching, but they say “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Red Oaks” are in HDR.

So when I plug in a usb stick with HDR content into my ks8500 it displays a message saying this content is HDR. It however makes no adjustments to my settings are others seeing this behavior. Also my Amazon app is only playing in 1080p, I tried Mozart in the jungle and orphan black.

Make sure you go to the tv section. then scroll down until you see Prime Ultra HD TV (Not just tv)
Mad Dogs is a good one to see. If you select the episode on the left you will see info(TV_MA 5.1 CC and then a HDR Badge. See post#159 of this thread.

You have to make sure you are in the UHD section of Amazon. I was seeing the same when I just picked one from a search. Although some that were supposed to be HDR weren't showing the badge but Bosch and Red Oaks are. Check those.

You must start out in Movie mode for HDR to engage. Then look for backlight and contrast to be maxed out. They will return to whatever they were after you stop playing the HDR video. That is, whatever you had them set in Movie mode cuz you must be in Movie mode to start.

I know, strange, not at all intuitive and not documented anywhere - but here.

Netflix has HDR10 active, and it works on other brands of TVs as well, but the only program they have in HDR right now is Marco Polo.

They apparently have an HDR graded version of Daredevil season 2, but hey haven't released it to stream yet for either HDR format.

Neither season of Daredevil exists yet in HDR. It will be remastered in Dolby Vision before the end of the year, however.

Netflix has been demoing a DV version of Daredevil behind closed doors, so that already exists in some capacity (maybe not the entire season yet). From what Netflix has said they will be supporting both HDR10 and DV for their HDR material.

FYI, season 1 is available in HDR now (Dolby Vision shows up on my Vizio P Series).

Yup, just noticed that as well. They also have a few other programs showing up as HDR when you do the HDR search, but not all of them are actually showing at the program level yet, it may be working through their system. Luke Cage was supposed to be in HDR as well, and so far it isn't showing up that way, which is surprising as I figured they'd have it out that way from the start, but I'm assuming it's coming soon.

For whatever reason Netflix has been much slower than Amazon when it comes to releasing HDR content.
