Its been a while since we have heard back from SAMSUNG about them
making more OLED panels since the discontinued 2014 version.
Now according to the news. It's saying SAMSUNG will go all the way in OLED this year.
They will also have a OLED panel by the end of the year also. Looks like there gonna give LG
a run for there money. Even though SAMSUNG has already took over the mobile market
for there mobile OLED displays which is called AMOLED. Anyway just happy one of the big
guys are finally tackling and taking it all the way for OLED *cough* *cough* SONY that
means its your turn . Just click the top or bottom link to look at the news about it this year.
The link says nothing about the technical details, however. Last I heard they were researching some hybrid manufacturing solution (to get around patents since LG's method is the only mass market viable method so far). Patterning the OLED materials on a phone or tablet-sized screen is much, much easier/cheaper than doing same with TVs of 55+ inches.
Where Rogo @!? He'd have an essay to divulge on this topic.
Well yeah its common sense it will be expensive to produce OLED that way, but to not buttheads with LG patents. They just might have to go the AMOLED way that they know best instead of another.
I heard long ago that Samsung would be releasing a OLED and that it would not have burn in. I have been waiting for this oh please a 800 nit min OLED would be epic.
''Samsung is currently developing a technology that can mass-produce large OLED panels by using a method that uses organic CVD and inkjet printing method alternatively" and will use White OLED (WOLED) technology. The goal is to improve production rates while lowering production costs, which would allow Samsung to introduce lower-priced OLED TVs to the market.'' http://hometheaterreview.com/samsung-still-deciding-on-mass-production-technology-for-oled-tvs/
Notice nowhere in that statement does it mention quality. As expected. "improve production rates while lowering production costs". Likely at the expense of quality, as it usually is with TV sets these days.
And LG will still be ahead in terms of features because LG has breathtaking full 1080p passive 3D on their OLED TVs. Samsung appears to have no interest in 3D at this point.
Yea, that HTR link is the one. If it still applies to today's plans, this is a new production process for them, so anybody expecting miracles might want to cool their jets and expectations. Competition is good, anything to unseat the LCD behemoth is welcome in fact.
^^^^that's the ef9500 though. The 2016 LG oleds are said to be much improved so my guess is they should be better than the Panasonic easily now. The color gut is 10% bigger, its 300 nits brighter, and has dolby vision. Should be no contest now.
So true and I'm hoping since SAMSUNG is so good about there brightness on there sets. That they will surpass LG's 512 nit brightness. I'd guess around vizio reference series brightness 800nits tops I hope they will make it happen. If not then I will be disappointed if its not brighter than LG's.
Possibly, but I suspect it's more than that. Ongoing R&D and behind-the-scenes stuff happening with the organic LED material itself. There have been some aging and efficiency breakthroughs (though blue is still lagging) by some of the key materials providers. Theoretically, Samsung should benefit from same.
Yes, I suspect Samsung will have growing pains with their first OLEDs but relatively speaking I wouldn't be too surprised if their offerings were an improvement over anything LG has to offer.
I think I'm getting pass the denial stage of this year's LG OLEDs and beginning to accept that they continue to have notable issues.
I'm so peeved at all the offerings
1) Sony only offers one FALD model in one size and lacks DV support
2) Samsung only offers one FALD model and lacks DV support
3) Vizio P series initially was very promising but has horrible upscaling and delay zone dimming
The best option for me may be to just wait another year, with SDR I'll take what I have over anything on the market. Perfect blacks is not enough for me if just above blacks look like garbage.
I completely agree with you about sony they only offer FALD 1 size but still hail as the king in PQ with there x940c.
Vizio though there still working so many bugs out of new software and hardware and display defects on the R and P-series. I'm sure the M would be a lot better since it was the number 1 selling tv for them. Samsung though I don't have much to say besides good PQ on the JS9500 but has slightly less motion than sony and I love there cellphones though even though there OLED so I hope it turns out well.
Just waiting on my x940c to show up and tie me over until the new Sammy OLED comes out and mybe check out LG's new B6 OLED if they had any improvements over last years at all.
hmm. Interesting news. I'll be watching over the next few years to see if it will be worth jumping in when the tech matures and prices become reasonable.
A month old news here..Competition for LG and Samsung. Sharp/Foxconn plans on shipping OLED panels for TVs in 2021. WSJ claims that Sharp will start supplying OLED panels in 2019...speedy investments are on their way
Foxconn has not confirmed all the details but Mr Gou of Foxconn said that “I am committed to make speedy investments in Sharp to help develop the next-generation display technology,” http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1459748511

Must be one hell of a project (i.e., 5 years until they can ship OLED panels). After Kennedy's Congressional speech that set the goal of getting to the moon, it only took only 8 years and 2 months before we had a man stepping off the ladder onto the moon's surface.
Samsung’s KS9800 SUHD TV line sports a 10-bit quantum-dot display capable of rendering a billion different colors. It uses a curved FALD LCD that offers 1000 nits peak brightness for vivid HDR. The panel features a moth-eye screen coating that both reduces reflections and visibly improves black levels. The KS9800 will be available early June as a 65" model priced at $4500 while an 88" model will cost $20,000. Meanwhile, a 78" model available in early May will sell for $10,000.
Brandt Warner, Senior Director of TV Product Marketing with the just-unveiled KS9800.
The KS9500 curved SUHD TV line features bezel-free edgelit-LCD TVs equipped with 10-bit quantum-dot panels that achieve 1000-nit brightness and can render a billion different colors. I've spent some quality time with various KS9500s and it produces the best-looking picture I've yet seen coming from an edgelit LCD. The KS9500 is available now in a 55" model that costs $2500 and a 65" model that sells for $3700. A 78" model will become available in June and will cost $8000.
For fans of flat TVs, Samsung’s KS9000 SUHD flat TVs offer essentially the same technology package as the KS9500 models. It's an edgelit quantum-dot panel with HDR capability that is available now in a 55" version for $2300 and 65" for $3500. A 75" model will arrive in early June for $6500.
Next up is the KS8500 curved SUHD TV, which also features quantum-dot color and 1000-nit peak brightness with HDR content. It is available now, and comes in three sizes. The 55" model is $2000 and 65” model is $3000. A 49" model arrives in May and will cost $1,700. And then there the KS8000 SUHD TV models that have a similar feature set as the KS8500 series, but are flat. The Samsung KS8000 is already available in a 55" size for $1800, and 65" for $2800. Starting in May, it will be available in a 49" version for $1500, and a 60" model will cost $2300.
thank you for proving my point to Richard the new FALD 65 inch KS9800 is still cheaper than the JS9500 by $500 which is more than enough for there 4k Blu-ray player.
